A cheque for £600 for Dungloe Patients Comfort Fund was presented to Nurse Teresa Mc Nelis at a Bridge function in the Highlands Hotel recently. The playing of the ‘Sarah and Margaret Rose Bowl Bridge Competition’ raised the money. The proud winners were Charlie Whyte and Jimmy Gallagher.

The musical, which was on last week in St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, was up to the usual standard of excellence, which we have come to expect from the school. They played to packed houses every night. It is wonderful to see the amount of talent we have in our midst. Great credit must go to the producer and the musical director and to all the behind the scenes workers who made this show such a success.

Santa came to the Highlands Hotel, Glenties last Sunday on a Fire Engine instead of his sleigh, for the annual Children’s Christmas Party. There was a big crowd of children there to greet him. Before he arrived the Drimnacrosh carol singers got everyone into the Christmas spirit with their beautiful singing. It was a lovely day and needless to say the children enjoyed themselves. The Drimnacrosh carol singers will be singing again at the weekend after Mass on Saturday and Sunday. They are fund-raising for the Drimnacrosh School.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Sadie Ward, Dr. Mc Closkey, Crescent, Glenties, on the death recently in Glasgow, of her aunt, Mary Margaret Reilly, (formerly Campbell, Cloghercullion, Doohary).

Sincere sympathy is extended to Owen Ward, Mully Glenties on the death of his sister Mary Marley, Brockagh, which took place last week.

The annual Senior Citizens Party last Friday night in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties was, as always, very successful and most enjoyable. To begin the evening Fr. Prendergast celebrated Mass at 6.00p.m. after which dinner was served. Santa and the Lord Mayor paid a visit again this year with a gift for everyone. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious and the music was great and it can safely be said that everyone had a great night. Thanks to all those who work so hard, not just on the night, but for weeks before, to make this annual event such a success.

The Lord Mayor, Thomas Mc Dyer switched on the Christmas Lights last Friday night and the town is much brighter now. Santa was there too with presents for all the children. He will be in town again next Sunday in the Highlands Hotel. ‘The Chancers’ supplied the music. We were blessed this year with a lovely dry night and there was a very big crowd. Our thanks are due to the Glenties Traders Association and all the workers who put up the lights.

The Crib has moved from the Community Centre to the centre of the town and has been erected by the Fire Brigade at the Bridge. It is hoped to have the Church Crib, which will be a new one, in place this weekend.
