Glenties Notes on March 29th 2002

Times for Services in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties during Holy Week are: – Holy Thursday – Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper – 7.30p.m. Good Friday – Celebration of the Lord’s Passion – 3.00p.m. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil – 10.00p.m.

Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh – Holy Thursday – 6.00p.m. Good Friday – 5.00p.m. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil – 8.00p.m.

The death took place in Dungloe Hospital on Monday 18th March 2002 of Gracie Melly, Gortnasillagh, Glenties. Her remains came to her home later that day and were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by her grand nephew, Patrick Trearty and granddaughter Martine Melly. Grandchildren, Thomas and Grainne Melly read prayers of the Faithful. Burial took place in the New Cemetery. Gracie is survived by two sons, Willie and Martin, Gortnasillsgh, brother, Danny, Kilraine, sisters, Annie Mc Hugh, Narin Road and Mary Gallagher, Letterilly, Glenties (now Lettermacaward), daughters-in-law, Sarah and Noreen, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband, James, predeceased her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife and family of Willie Campbell, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties who died on Friday last 22nd March.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife and family of Frank Mc Intyre, Ardconnell, Glenties, who died on Friday last 22nd March.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bernadette Herron, Letterilly, Glenties on the death of her father Francie Mc Hugh, Loughadoon, Portnoo, who died on Friday 22nd March 2002.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the sister and other relatives and friends of Connie Molloy, Mully, Glenties who died on Sunday last 24th March.

Forty-five young people from the five schools in the Parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Philip Boyce in St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Sunday 10th March 2002.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Joe Melly, Main St. Glenties on the death of his brother Patrick Melly, Doochary, which took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home, Bruckless on Sunday 10th March 2002. His remains were brought to his home on Monday. Burial took place after Requiem Mass on Wednesday.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Annie Toland, Tullyhoniver, Glenties on the death of her father Eddie Gallagher, Cnocnagapple, Ardara, which took place at Annie’s home on Thursday 14th March 2002. His remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family on Saturday for Requiem Mass and burial took place afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Bridget Mc Glynn, Meenagoland, Fintown, who died in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Tuesday 12th March 2002. Her remains were brought to her home later that day and burial took place in Fintown after Requiem Mass on Thursday.

Gary O’Donnell and Caroline Bonner were married in St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Saturday 23rd February 2002. Gary is a son of Jimmy and Mary O’Donnell, Mullantyboyle, Glenties and Caroline is a daughter of Josie and Babs Bonner, Drimaneany, Fintown. Fr. Kevin Gillespie, Fintown, assisted by Fr. Burns, a relative of the bride’s from Scotland, officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Grainne and Helen Bonner and Gary’s sisters, Breda and Janet O’ Donnell were bridesmaids. Philip Gallagher, friend of the groom was bestman and the groomsmen were James O’Donnell, brother of the groom, Dominic Bonner, brother of the bride, and a friend, Chris King. Catherine Bonner was flowergirl and Ethan and Jordan O’Donnell were pageboys. Readings were by brother and sister of the groom, Michael and Noelle O’Donnell. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel and the honeymoon was spent in Spain.

Congratulations to Laura Boyce, Mullinamina, Glenties and Paul Walker from Kerry who were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday last.

The children of the Parish will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Sunday 10th March in St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown at 11a.m. There is a rehearsal for the Confirmation Children (only) in St. Colmcille’s Church, on Thursday 7th March at 11a.m.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, family, relatives and friends of Ally Breslin, Ardconnell, Glenties, who died on Saturday 2nd March 2002.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Philomena Craig, (nee Breslin) Ardara, who died in Harbour Lights, Nursing Home on Saturday 2nd March 2002, to her sister, Nan Gallagher, Glen Road, Glenties, sister Meg Cunningham, Letterkenny, brother, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Congratulations to Tracy Doherty, Stranaglough and Frankie Devine, Banganbouy, Glenties who got engaged recently.

Congratulations to Daniel Gildea, Scoil Mhuire, Glenties, who won an award for the best essay (Why I should not take drugs) in the Glenties area, in the recent competition organised by the Garda Siochana in association with the North Western Health Board. Daniel, who received 100 Euro, a plaque for his school and one for himself, is a son of Seamus and Maureen Gildea, Altar, Glenties and grandson of Gracie and the late Johnny Gildea, Ardconnell.

Congratulations to John Mc Loone and his wife Isobel (nee Greene), Mill Road, Glenties, who celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the weekend with Mass and a party afterwards in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. Friends and relatives from far and near joined the happy couple in celebrating this special occasion.

Congratulations to Imelda and Pat Gallagher, Kelvon House, Glenties, on the birth of their second child in Letterkenny Hospital last week, a little sister for Aaron.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Hannah Campbell, Meenagowan, Lettermacaward, who died on Wednesday 20th February 2002, to her brothers, Colm Melly, Main Street, Glenties, Patrick Melly, Lettermacaward, sister, Mary Anne Breslin, Lettermacaward, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Hannah and her husband Briney lived for a number of years at Mill Road, Glenties and after his death she moved to her native Lettermacaward.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Kathleen Mc Gettigan, Stranaglough, Glenties, on the death of her father, James Sharkey, Annagry, which took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Thursday 21st February 2002.
