Glenties Notes on April 26th 2002

Deirdre Dooley and Joseph Keegan were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 13th April 2002. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. The bride is a daughter of Tony and Lena Dooley, The Rock, Glenties and the groom is a son of Mary and the late Edward Keegan, Rathfarnam, Co. Dublin. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters Maria and Charlotte Dooley were her bridesmaids. Brother of the groom John Keegan was bestman and another brother Martin was groomsman. Readings were by Anton Dooley, brother of the bride and Bridget Keegan, sister of the groom. The bride’s uncle, Charlie Boyle, and her friend, Nora Mathers, read Prayers of the Faithful. Turloch Dooley, brother of the bride and Edele Keegan, sister of the groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in The Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon was spent in Rome and Florence.

On Friday 19th April 2002 Ciara Boyle and David Hennigan were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Martin Doohan, Fanad assisted by Fr. Patrick Prendergast, P.P. Glenties and Fr. Austin Lafferty, P.P. Ardara concelebrated Nuptial Mass. Fr. Martin Doohan officiated at the marriage ceremony. Breidín Boyle cousin of the bride and Kayleigh Hennigan, niece of the groom were the Altar Servers. Ciara is the eldest daughter of Pat and Barbara Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties and David is a son of Margaret and the late Harold Hennigan, Ardara. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Fionnuala, Niamh, Irene and Barbara Boyle and the groom’s sister Clare Bromley were her bridesmaids. Mark Cassidy, long time friend of the groom was bestman and his brothers, Malcolm and John Hennigan, John and Eamonn Boyle, brothers of the bride were groomsmen. Readings were by Caroline Mc Gill, friend of the bride and Natalie Bromley, niece of the groom. Mairead Gallagher, friend of the bride, John Hennigan, nephew of the groom, Nicole Bromley, niece of the groom and Deirdre Boyle, cousin of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Bríd Brennan, cousin of the bride, read a Reflection after Communion. Music was by the Glenties Folk Group. The reception was held in The Blue Haven, Kilcar and the happy couple are spending their honeymoon in Tenerife.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, daughter, son-in-law, brothers-in-law, Josie Mc Gill, Stranaglough, Jimmy Mc Gill, Ard Mc Gill, Paddy Mc Gill, Meenahalla and sister-in-law, Annie Mc Gill, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties, other relatives and friends of Peter Mc Glynn, Ballinamore, Fintown, who died suddenly on Saturday 20th April 2002.

The “Dalriada Singers”, Jordanstown University, will give a Concert in aid of Donegal Hospice, in St.Connell’s Church, Glenties, on Friday night 26th April at 8.30p.m

Glenties Notes on April 19th 2002

The death took place on Saturday 6th April 2002, at the home of her brother in Glenfin of Susan Campbell, Silverhill, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home in Silverhill later that day and to The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Monday morning. Fr. Aodhan Cannon, nephew of the deceased, assisted by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir, Fr. Denis Quinn, Fr. Kevin Gillespie, Fr. O’Gorman and Fr. Hugh Sweeney concelebrated Requiem Mass. Readings, Prayers of the Faithful, carrying of the Gifts were by Susan’s nieces and nephews. Music and singing was by a friend of the family. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Cemetery. Susan is survived by three brothers, Paddy, Edeninfagh, Condy, Greenans, Peter, Glenfin, one sister, Mary Cannon, Letterkenny, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her sister, Annie and brother, Charlie predeceased her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Brendan and Patsy Gallagher, Ardconnell and Barney O’ Haire, Derries, Glenties on the death recently of their uncle, John Mc Gill, Maghera, Ardara.

Congratulations to Rosaleen and Mark Mc Devitt, The Rock, Glenties on the birth recently of their third child, a little sister for Shane and Danielle.

On Saturday 23rd March 2002 Brendan Maguire and Patricia Coyne were married in St. John’s Church, Cratloe, Co. Clare. Fr. Liam Enright and Fr. Connell J. Maguire were the celebrants at the Nuptial Mass. Brendan is a son of the late Dan and Annie Maguire, Glen Road, Glenties and Patricia is a daughter of Patrick and Kathleen Coyne, Ballybrit, Co. Galway. The bride was given away by her brother and was attended by her sisters, May, Ann, Margaret and Tara. The groom’s friend, Jack Lynch was bestman and two cousins; Denis Mc Gill and Laurence Molloy were groomsmen. Marianna and Roisin Keating, Greta O’Neill, Evie Whelehan, and Katie O’Neill were flowergirls. Eoin O’Gorman was pageboy. Readings were by Brendan’s two sisters, Rosaleen and Collette. Sean and Tara Coyne brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music was by Gus and Anette Ahlsved and the Harpist was Pattie Gibbons. The reception was held in Knappogue Castle, Quin, Co. Clare and the honeymoon was spent touring.

Congratulations and best wishes to Sharon Watters and Patrick O’ Shea who were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Monday 1st April 2002. Sharon is a daughter of Anne, (formerly Mc Guigan, Ardconnell, Glenties), and Michéal Watters, Tullycleave, Ardara, and has a Hairdressing Salon here in Glenties. The reception was held in the Blue Haven.

Congratulations and best wishes to Caroline Mackessy, Mully, Glenties and Paddy Doherty, Glenfin who were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Glenties on Saturday last.

The death took place at his home on Good Friday 29th March 2002 of Packie Sweeney, Letterilly, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 11a.m. Readings were by his sons James and Liam. Music was by St. Connell’s Church choir. Burial took place in the New Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Bridget, six sons, James, Liam, Cornelius, Johnny, Pat and Donal, one daughter, Marina, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two brothers, Cornelius and James Hugh and two sisters, Sarah and Annie Maria predeceased him. Packie was the last surviving member of the family of William John and Mary Sweeney, Gortnasillagh, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Danny Sweeney, Dublin (formerly Mullantyboyle, Glenties) on the death of his wife, Una, which took place recently and also to their family, sisters-in-law, Bridie and Molly, other relatives and friends. The Sweeney family are regular visitors to Mullantyboyle.

Glenties Notes on April 4th 2002

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Friday 22nd March 2002 of Willie Campbell, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home on Saturday afternoon and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. assisted by Fr. Adrian Gavigan celebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00a.m. Willie is survived by his wife, Nan, sons, Tony, Willie and P.J. daughters, Annie, Gracie, Bried, Rose, Bernadette, Philomena, Assumpta, Angela, Kathleen and Dympna, sister, Maria Mc Brearty, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Two brothers, Jack and Patrick and one sister, Sr. Agnes, predeceased him.

The death took place on Friday 22nd March 2002 at Letterkenny Hospital of Frank Mc Intyre, Ardconnell, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home on Saturday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday afternoon. Fr. Patrick Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 1.00p.m. Burial took place in the New Cemetery with a Guard of Honour representing the Irish Army of whom Frank was a member during the war years. Frank is survived by his wife, Maureen, daughter, Maura, sons, Peadar, Hugh-Brendan and Frankie, son-in-law, Marty, daughter-in-law, Finola, sister, Lizzie (Omagh), grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 24th March 2002 of Connie Molloy, Mully, Glenties and his remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh later that day. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn celebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday. Burial took place in the Edeninfagh Cemetery. Connie is survived by his sister, Rosie, Mully, wife, Sylvia, daughter, Fiona, England, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. His brother John predeceased him a few years ago. His sister, Mary Anne also predeceased him.

The death took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home, Bruckless on Tuesday 26th March 2002 of Bridget Ward, Main Street, Glenties and formerly of Meenaleenaghan. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday. Fr. Prendergast P.P. celebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Cemetery. Cousins, other relatives and many friend survive her. Bridget, the last surviving member of the family of Peter and Mary Anne Ward, Meenaleenaghan, travelled the world for over twenty years in her capacity as a children’s nurse on cruise ships. Her sister Mary, with whom she resided in Glenties for many years after her retirement, died on 27th March 1999. Two other sisters, Rose and Annie also predeceased her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife and family of Packie Sweeney, Letterilly, Glenties, who died on Friday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Rosha Gallagher, Station Road, Glenties on the death of her nephew, Simon Gallagher, who died in England last week.
