Glenties Notes on May 24th 2002

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Thursday 16th May 2002 of Mary Byrne, daughter of the late Sonny and Peggy Byrne, Buncrubog, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Friday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Mary’s niece, Angela and her sister Bernadette. Burial took place in the New Cemetery. Mary is survived by her twin brother, Seamus, The Rock, Glenties sister, Bernadette, Buncrubog, Cathal, Donegal and Joe in Australia, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

A young man, nineteen year old Peter Gallagher, Churchill, was killed in a car accident in the early hours of Sunday morning just outside Glenties on the Station Road. Sincere sympathy to his family.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Annie Quinn, Fintown on the death recently in Dungloe Hospital of her brother, Paddy Joe Gallagher. His remains were brought home to Fintown on Friday and burial took place after Requiem Mass on Saturday.

Congratulations to Clare and Gerard O’Donnell, Tullyard Road, Glenties on the birth on Thursday 16th May ‘02 in Letterkenny Hospital, of their second child, a little sister for Niamh.

Congratulations to Nessa and Brian Cannon, Letterkenny, (formerly Nighthawks, Glenties) on the birth on Friday 17th May ’02 of their second child, a baby brother for Áine. The babies are cousins.

Congratulations to Mario O Mannering, Mairead Ní Thiomanaí, and Máire Nic Monagail who received their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday 12th May 2002 and thanks to their teacher, Miss Cunningham.

Sandfield Pitch & Putt course will open again on Friday May 31st after being closed for two years. It will now have a Glenties connection. Anne Finn, formerly O’Donnell and her husband Tom, a Galway man, are returning from England to re-open, what should be a great local amenity for budding Tiger Woods! Anne is a daughter of John and Aggie O’ Donnell. Ard Patrick, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Colm Melly, Main Street, Glenties on the death recently in New York of his niece, Maryanne Dunne (Campbell); also to her sisters Kathleen, Lettermacaward, Noreen, New Jersey, brother, Michael, New Jersey, aunt, Maryanne Breslin, uncle, Patrick Melly, Lettermacaward, other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Cormac Quinn, Mully on the death recently in England, of his sister, Maggie O’ Donaghue; also to her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bid Fletcher, Ard Patrick, on the death in Birmingham of her brother, George Friel and to Christine Mc Cool and Anne Bonner on the death of their uncle.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Maureen Mc Intyre, Ardconnell on the death recently in Vietnam, of her nephew, John Boyle, Dungloe.

On Saturday 4th May 2002 Eilis Mc Loone and Keith Boileau were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Uncle of the bride, Fr. Francis Mc Loone, assisted by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Eilis is a daughter of Pat and Eithne Mc Loone, Cleengort, Glenties and Keith is a son of Breda Boileau, Dublin. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Charlotte, Eithne and Mary were bridesmaids. The groom’s brother, Trevor was bestman and another brother, Ian and a friend, Paul Fagan were groomsmen. Readings were by the bride’s sister, Mary and the groom’s brother-in-law, Paddy Henry. Eithne and Charlotte Mc Loone and Ian Boilleau read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Lake House, Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon was spent in Italy

Congratulations to Eilis Mc Loone, Cleengort, Glenties and Keith Boileau from Dublin, who were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday last.

On Saturday 27th April 2002 Bridie Campbell and John Donaghey were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Glenties. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Bridie is a daughter of Charlie and Mary Campbell, Meenavale, Glenties and John is a son of Mary and the late James Donaghey, Convoy. Her father gave the bride away and her sister; Mary Campbell was her bridesmaid. The groom’s brother, James was bestman. Readings were by Charlie Campbell, brother of the bride and Kathleen Hughes, sister of the groom. Nieces of the bride and groom, Grainne Melly, Sarah Campbell and Tara Hughes read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Blue Haven, Kilcar.

Congratulations to Pat Walsh, Kilkenny, Glenties, member of the Glenties Bowling Club, who was the winner of St. Patrick’s Singles Tournament in Strabane recently.

Glenties Notes on May 3rd 2002

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Walsh, Kilkenny, Glenties, on the death of her mother, Nora Bonner, Boyoughter, Lettermacaward, which took place suddenly, at her home on Wednesday 24th April 2002; also to her husband, Paddy and son-in-law Packie Walsh, other relatives and friends. Burial took place in Lettermacaward Cemetery on Friday after Requiem Mass. Nora was the last surviving member of the family of Patrick and Maggie Mc Grath, Kilkenny, Glenties. Three brothers, Packie, Neilie and Edward and one sister, Maria predeceased her.

Congratulations to Bridie Campbell, Meenavale, Glenties and John Donaghey, Convoy, who were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Saturday last.

The “Classes of 1968″, which was the opening year of the Comrehensive School in Glenties intend to have another reunion on the weekend of the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th of August 2003. We had a very successful 25th reunion weekend and gala dinner in ’93. To organise this we would like to know how many people would be interested in attending.
