Congratulations and best wishes to Deirdre Bonner, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Kevin Kelly, Galway, who were married in Barna, Co. Galway on Saturday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Annette Mc Loone, Main St. Glenties, on the death on Tuesday 21st January 2003 of her brother, Eamonn Ryan, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Congratulations to Teresa and Frank Mc Donnell, Glen Road, Glenties on the birth recently of their baby boy in Letterkenny Hospital.

Congratulations and best wishes for many more years among us to Bridie Elliott, Maas, Glenties, who celebrated her 90th Birthday last Friday.

Congratulations to Pat Walsh, Kilkenny, Glenties and John Hegarty, Ard Patrick, who qualified for the Golden Charter National Bowling Championships, which will be held in Antrim in February.

Congratulations to Lisa Boyle, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Richard Love, Donegal, who got engaged recently. Lisa is a daughter of Mick and Ann Boyle, Ard Patrick. Glenties.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday 11th January 2003 of Francie Gildea, Ard Patrick and formerly of Mill Road, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday evening, where Fr. Prendergast P.P. received them. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. celebrated Requiem Mass on Monday morning. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Francie is survived by his brother, Peter, cousins, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His brothers, James and Paddy, sisters Maureen Ward, Bridie Gildea and Rosha Boyle predeceased him. Francie worked in the Co-op in Glenties before going to England, where he spent a good part of his life. He returned some years ago to live with his late sister Rosha in Ard Patrick.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital, on Monday 13th January 2003 of Charlie Mc Cann, Mullantyboyle, Glenties. His remains were brought home on Tuesday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday evening. Fr. Prendergast P.P. celebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday morning. Readings were by nieces, Sharon Gallagher and Mary Mc Cole. Charlie’s son, John read Prayers of the Faithful. Grandchildren, Donna and Ryan Kelly brought the Gifts to the Altar. Singing was by nephew, Stephen Bennett. Burial took place in Ardara Graveyard. Fr. Lafferty P.P. Ardara officiated at the graveside. Charlie is survived by his sons, John and Charles, daughters, Mary, Anne and Patricia, sister, Mary, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His wife Mary predeceased him in 1972 and his brother John also predeceased him.

The death took place in the Mater Hospital, Dublin on Tuesday 14th January 2003 of Owen Mc Glynn, Lacklea and formerly of Station Road, Glenties. His remains were brought home later that day and to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Thursday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir, C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Lucille Ward and Conal Boyle. Kathleen Ward and Rose Boyle brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties. Owen’s wife, Margaret predeceased him in 1986 and his brother, Johnny also predeceased him. Sincere sympathy is extended to his cousins, other relatives and friends. . Owen served in the Irish Army from 1939 to 1946 and members of the Army carried his coffin into the Church at Edeninfagh and in Glenties they carried it to the grave.

The death took place at his home, on Monday 6thJanuary 2003 of Con Brennan, Shallogans. His remains were brought to St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Wednesday morning. Members of the local Fianna Fail Cumann formed a Guard of Honour from the Co-op. in Fintown to the Church. Fr. Kevin Gillespie assisted by Fr. Padraig Ó Bhaoill, Fr. John Joe Duffy, Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir, and Canon Leo Moore celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Con’s son, Joseph and daughter, Siobhan. Daughter Anne, sons, Declan, Derek, Patrick Andrew and niece Fidelma Gallagher read Prayers of the Faithful. Grandsons, Ciarán and Dermot Brennan, daughter Mary Teresa and nephew/godson Eamonn Moore brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music was by the local choir. Con’s coffin was carried from the Church to the adjoining graveyard by his four sons and nephews, Gerard Moore and Gerard Donnelly and led by his cousin, John Mc Dermott on the bagpipes. The graveside oration was given by Pat the Cope Gallagher, T.D. Minister of State, Department of Environment & Local Government. Con is survived by his wife, Breege, daughters, Anne, Mary Teresa and Siobhan, sons, Joseph, Declan, Derek and Patrick Andrew, sister, Susan Mc Gurrin, New York, daughter-in-law, Una, son-in-law, Sean Mc Mahon, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His brother Patrick and sister, Mary Gallagher and a baby brother, Andrew predeceased him.

The death took place at his home, on Thursday 2nd January 2003 of Peter Shovlin, Kilraine. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by grandchildren, Sarah and Peter Shovlin. Grandsons, Daniel and Micheál Shovlin, son Francis and granddaughter, Eimear Mc Bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Peter’s daughter, Mary, read a Reflection. Singing was by Anne Bonner and Grace Shovlin, accompanied by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in Kilraine graveyard. Peter’s wife, Annie predeceased him twenty seven years ago. His brothers, Danny, Frank and Hughie also predeceased him. He is survived by sons, Francis, England, Peter, Michael, Charles, Kilraine, daughters, Eileen Carmody, Kerry, Mary Mc Bride, Kildare, sister, Marion Singleton, Manorcunningham, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, Eileen Kennedy, Kilraine, Mother Aquinas, Co. Laois, other relatives and many friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

The death took place on Monday 30th December 2002, in Leopardstown Park Hospital, Dublin of Annie Mc Callig, Rathfarnham, Dublin and formerly of Edeninfagh, Glenties. Her remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Wednesday 1st January and burial took place after Requiem Mass on Thursday. Sincere sympathy is extended to her brother, John, sisters, Sarah, Agnes and Kathleen and to all her relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Nancy Clarke, Dr. Mc Closkey, Glenties who died in Killybegs Hospital on Monday 30th December 2002. Nancy (formerly Mc Nelis from Gortnasillagh, Glenties) spent a good part of her life in England before returning to her native land.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives of Dan Molloy (formerly of Graffy, Glenties) who died recently in Suffolk, England. Dan was a brother of the late Dinny Molloy, Glen Road, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Peter Shovlin, Kilraine who died on Thursday 2nd January 2003.

Congratulations to Josephine and John Mc Loone, Tullyard Road, Glenties on the birth of their second child in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 5th January 2003. A little brother for Nicola.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Nan Craig, Church Road and Michael Boyle, Ard Patrick, Glenties on the death of their sister, Mary Bridget Tivnan, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo, which took place on Wednesday 18th December 2002.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Marion Mc Guinness, Narin Road and Yvonne Doherty, Station Road, Glenties on the death of their father, John Bonner, Derryhinney, Doochary, which took place suddenly, on Thursday 19th December 2002.

The death occurred in London on 23rd December 2002 of Danny Furey, formerly of Mullantyboyle, Glenties. He is survived by his son John, daughter-in-law, Sheila and grandchildren in London and his brother, Peter in Mullantyboyle. His funeral will take place in London on Friday 3rd January 2003. A Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on 25th January at 7.30p.m. Sincere sympathy is extended to all his relatives and friends.

Congratulations to our Senior Team who won the League Final in Ballybofey on Sunday 22nd December 2002 and for the first time since the inception of the club, brought a Senior Trophy (The Democrat Cup) to Glenties. There was a big cavalcade of cars with the team on their way home and bonfires were lit along the way. A great crowd gathered in the town to greet them.
