Congratulations to the Glenties Comprehensive School Senior and U– 16 Gaelic teams who both won their Vocational County Finals in 2002 and who were recently presented with their medals at a function in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties to celebrate the double success for the school.

Congratulations and best wishes to twins, James Boyle and Madge Mc Glynn, Drimnaha, Fintown, who celebrated their 90th Birthday on 20th February 2003. They recently presented an old gramophone to the Glenties Museum.

The death took place at his home on Tuesday 25th February 2003 of Packie Mc Cahill, Derries, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. celebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Packie is survived by his wife, Eileen, sons, Michael, Desmond, Peter, and Stephen, daughters, Patricia and Angela, sister, Mary, Breslin, Ardconnell, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Con Gallagher, Adderwell, Doochary, who died suddenly on Thursday 27th February 2003.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives of Michael Kennedy, Mountcharles, who died recently in London. Michael’s father, Thomas is a native of Kilraine, Glenties.

The death took place at her home on Monday 3rd March, of Josephine Campbell, Main St. Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday evening where Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. received them. Fr. Prendergast, Fr. John Mc Loone, Frosses and Canon Leo Moore Narin concelebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Josephine is survived by sons, Aidan, Frank and Raymond, daughters, Brenda, Joan, Mona, Rosaleen and Marie, sister, Vera Martin, Dublin, brothers, Bill and P.J. Mc Gowan, Donegal Town, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Frankie predeceased her in May 1976 and her daughter, Anne in August 1980. Four sisters, Mae, Mona, Rosaleen and Kay also predeceased her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Paddy Gallagher (Philemy), London and formerly of Loughcrillan, Glenties, who died in London on Thursday 6th March 2003. His remains were brought from London to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday evening. Fr. Patrick Prendergast, Fr. Eddie Gallagher and Canon Leo Moore concelebrated Requiem Mass on Sunday at 1.00p.m. Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Paddy is survived by his wife, Annie, three sons, Hugh, Philip and Mark one daughter, Debbie, brother, Hugh, sisters, Mary, Kathleen, Agnes, Teresa, Bried, Peggy and Philomena. His brother, Phil predeceased him in September 1979 and his sister, Annie on 25th June 2002.

On 19th November 2002 fifth year student John Gallagher from Ardara caught a blackbird in the corridor of Glenties Comprehensive School. It had a ring on its leg with the number RB15670 and a notice to contact the British Museum. Richard Mc Cafferty, a teacher in the school, did this. The Museum contacted the British Trust for Ornithology and Mr. Mc Cafferty recently received a letter from them with the following details:- The female blackbird was ringed on 20th June 2001 in Low Hauxley, Northumberland, England. Ringer: Northumbria RG. It had travelled a distance of 431 km before reaching Glenties and 517 days had elapsed since it was ringed. The bird was released from the school after the number had been taken and may still be in the area.
