The Magee Bluestack Challenge Walk for Special Needs will take place again this year on Saturday 26th July 2003. The walk will start in Ardara, proceed to Glenties along the scenic Owenea River and on to the finishing point at Drimarone, a distance of approximately forty kilometres. The objective of the Magee Bluestack Challenge is to raise funds, through sponsorship, in order to improve the quality of life for people with Special Needs i.e. Autism, Down’s Syndrome and other learning disabilities. Last year, the inaugural year of the walk, seventy walkers completed the Challenge and raised almost 50,000 Euro for this most worthy cause. As 2003 is the European Year of People with Disabilities, it is hoped to attract at least one hundred participants, with the aim of substantially exceeding last year’s figure. The money raised to date has enabled the various beneficiaries to build playgrounds, purchase necessary equipment and provide much needed services such as additional speech therapy and physiotherapy. This, therefore, is an appeal to you, hill-walking enthusiasts, to participate in this worthwhile and unique event. The objective of the Challenge is, quite obviously, to raise as much money as possible and, to this end, we would hope that as participants, you would aim to raise substantial amounts by way of sponsorship.
