Glenties Notes on June 27th 2003

The death took place in Killybegs Hospital on Tuesday 17th June 2003 of Michael Gallagher, (better known as Mickey Jimmy), Meenahalla, Glenties. His remains were brought home that evening and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. and Canon Leo Moore concelebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Mickey is survived by his wife Lily, niece Mary Boyle, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Four brothers, Paddy, Jim, Thady and Charlie and two sisters, Mary and Annie predeceased him. Mickey would have been 99 years in August and was the oldest person in the parish.

Congratulations to Chuchar Boyle and Nuala Hetzler, who were married in St. Mary’s Church, Rochester, New York on Saturday 21st June 2003. Cruchar is a son of Kathleen and the late John Boyle, Shallogans, Glenties.

Congratulations to Mary and Mike Gill, Boston on the birth recently of their first child, a baby girl. . Mary is a daughter of Martin and Julia Molloy, Buncrubog, Glenties. The proud parents brought the baby home to be christened in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh.

Congratulations to Fionnuala Mc Dyer, who graduated recently with a BA Degree in Human Genetics from Trinity College, Dublin. Fionnuala is a daughter of Enda and Angela Mc Dyer, Maas, Glenties.

Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard, Glenties on Sunday 27th July at 3.00p.m. and in Edeninfagh Graveyard on Sunday 10th August at 3.00p.m.

County team manager, Sean Mc Eniff performed the official opening of the New Clubhouse and official naming of ‘Davy Brennan Memorial Park’ in Glenties on Sunday last. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties assisted by Fr. Kevin Gillespie; Fintown then blessed the building. There was a big crowd for the occasion. Ardara and Naomh Conaill reserve teams played the 2nd Leg of the Championship before the opening and the senior teams played their Championship game afterwards. Sadly the home teams were beaten in both games.

Congratulations to Mary Mc Loone, Cleengort, and Sharon Foley, Lifford, (her mother Mary is from Glenties) on their outstanding performances at the Ulster/Northern Ireland Senior Track and Field Championships in Belfast recently

On Friday 30th May 2003 Nicola Hegarty and John Cruise were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Patrick Prendergast assisted by Fr. Adrian Gavigan celebrated Nuptial Mass. Nicola is a daughter of John and Paula Hegarty, Ard Patrick, Glenties and John is a son of Jimmy and Maureen Cruise, Delvin, Co. Westmeath. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Caroline, Angeline, Stephanie and Natalie were her bridesmaids. William Cruise, brother of the groom was bestman and another brother, Brendan, his cousin, Edward Curran and a friend, Tony Mullen were groomsmen. Goddaughter of the groom, Rebecca Curran was flowergirl and James Gildea, cousin of the bride, was pageboy. Readings were by Hayley Ford, sister of the groom and Dermot Hegarty, brother of the bride. Muriel Hegarty, cousin of the bride, Paul Hegarty, brother of the bride, Martin Ford, brother-in-law of the groom Patricia Hegarty, sister-in-law of the bride, friends, Fergus Sheerin, and Paddy Doyle read Prayers of the Faithful. Mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon is being spent in Portugal.

Congratulations to Laura and Andy Mc Grath, Fermoy, Co. Cork on the birth on Sunday 25th May 2003 of their second child, a baby brother for Christopher. Laura is a daughter of Tim and Ann Cranley, Mill Road, Glenties.

Congratulations to Imelda and Brendan Doherty, Narin Road, Glenties on the birth recently of their second child, a baby sister for Cian.

Congratulations to fourth year students Fionnuala Gallagher, Roisin-Ana Mc Carthy and Joseph Shovlin from St. Columba’s Comprehensive School and their team coach Mary Regan on winning the Radio Na Gaeltachta All-Ireland Quiz Final recently.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital, on Monday 26th May 2003 of Francie Mc Loone, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home on Tuesday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Francie’s niece, Rosemary and his daughter Kate. Bried Murphy, a cousin of the deceased read Prayers of the Faithful. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ and singing was by Dean, a cousin of the family. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Francie is survived by his wife, Mary, sons, Kevin, Gerry, Martin and J.P. daughters, Kate and Rosemary, sister Mary Doherty, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
