Glenties Notes on July 27th 2003

The death took place on Monday 14th July 2003 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar of Nan O’Donnell, formerly of Cloughercor, Doochary. Monsignor Dan Mc Dyre officiated at the service in St. Joseph’s before the remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday evening, where they were received by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C Glenties. Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Ó Gallachóir and Canon Leo Moore on Wednesday at 12 noon. Readings were by Nan’s nieces Bried Byrne and Ann O’Donnell. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ and singing was by Nan’s nephew Cornelius Ward. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Nan is survived by one brother, Paddy O’Donnell Ardconnell and one sister, Bridget Mc Glinchey, Main St. Glenties, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her sister Maureen Ward predeceased her in July 1990.

On Saturday 5th July 2003 Niall Gallagher and Sharon Callaghan were married in the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Glenfin. Fr. Hugh Sweeney assisted by Fr. Patrick Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Niall is a son of Cormac and Eileen Gallagher, Main St. Glenties and Sharon is a daughter of Sean and Frances Callaghan, Glenfin. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Patricia, Nuala, Mary and Caroline were her bridesmaids. The groom’s brother, Lawrence was bestman. John Paul Gallagher, brother of the groom and two friends, Martin Joyce and Damien Craig were groomsmen. Ciara Mc Daid was a flowergirl and Stephen Callaghan was a pageboy. Readings were by Jolene Mc Elhinney, cousin of the bride and Elaine Gallagher, sister of the groom. Helena Callaghan, Martin Bonner, Michelle Mc Daid and Philip Gallagher read Prayers of the Faithful. The mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon was spent in the Canaries.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary, Jimmy and Patrick Campbell, Main St. Glenties on the death of their aunt, Ellen Campbell, which took place recently in England and to all the relatives and friends.

Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard, Glenties on Sunday 27th July at 3.00p.m. and in Edeninfagh Graveyard on Sunday 10th August at 3.00p.m.

Congratulations to Niall Gallagher, Main Street, Glenties and Sharon Callaghan, Glenfin who were married in Glenfin on Saturday last.

Congratulations to Charlie Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties and Katie Greenwood, Mullinamina, Glenties who got engaged recently.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Hugh Moy, Ballinamore, Fintown, who was buried in Fintown on Saturday 5th July 2003.

Birthday greetings are extended to Marjie (Boyle) Jordan of Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA) on the occasion of her 80th birthday. Paddy Joe Boyle of Letterilly and the late Charlie Boyle of Ard Conal were cousins of Marjie’s late father Charles Boyle. Marjie’s grandparents Charles and Hannah emigrated to the US in the late 1800′s from Lough Fad.
Marjie’s birthday will be celebrated at a reunion in Minneapolis July 25-27 with three generations of family members coming from six different states.
