Congratulations to Rosaleen and Mark Mc Devitt, The Rock, Glenties on the birth recently of their fourth child, a baby sister for Shane, Danielle and Emily Rose.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bried Furey, Ard Patrick, Glenties, on the death of her aunt, Noreen Doherty, which took place recently in Dungloe Hospital.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Lucia Becht, Meenahalla, Glenties, on the death of her father, which took place recently in Germany.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Margo Gallagher, The Rock, Glenties, on the death of her father, Joseph Stewart, Curraghmone, Ballybofey, which took place in Letterkenny Hospital last week.

Congratulations to Alice and James Brennan, Stranaglough, Glenties, on the birth of their second child, a baby brother for Niamh.

Ceili
Club Ceili Na Gleanta are holding a Ceili in the Community Centre, Glenties next Sunday 23rd November. Music by Art McNally Trio. Admission is €5 including supper. Dancing is from 9:00p.m. until 12 midnight. Proceeds to the Senior Citizens Christmas Party.

Fireman’s Dance
The annual Fireman’s Dance takes place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Friday 28th November Music by F.M. Sound. Dancing is from 11:00p.m. – 2:00a.m. Spot Prizes galore!

Glenties on November 11th 2003

The death took place in Dungloe Hospital on Wednesday 5th November 2003, of Maggie O’Donnell, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday evening where Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties received them. Fr. Prendergast also celebrated Requiem Mass on Friday morning. Readings were by Ann Edel Ward and Bried Mc Gill, relatives of Maggie. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Sincere sympathy is extended to her cousins, Rose Mc Gill, Glen Road, Ownie O’ Donnell, Aughla, Nancy Mc Grath, Meenahalla and Maggie Keeney, Tullyhoniver and all her relatives and friends. Her only sister, Annie Carr, Tullymore, Ardara predeceased her some years ago. Originally from Mully, Glenties, Maggie and her sister Annie with their parents moved to Mill Road, Glenties. Maggie remained on Mill Road until she got her new home in Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent. She has been in Hospital for a number of years. Her working life was spent in Mc Devitt’s Knitwear Factory, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Donal Gallagher, Narin Road, Glenties, on the death of his brother, Thomas, which took place in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Thursday 6th November 2003. Sympathy also to his brother Francie Gallagher, Stranorlar, with whom Tommie resided after leaving Ard MacGill, Glenties, and to all his relatives and friends. Burial took place in Stranorlar. Tommie was originally from Doobin, Glenties.

Congratulations to Brenda Doherty, who graduated recently with a B. Ed. Degree in Education from St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra and is presently teaching in Glenswilly National School. Brenda is a daughter of Patrick Gerard and Anne Doherty, Mill Road, Glenties.

Congratulations to Julie Mc Cormack, who graduated recently from the Institute of Technology, Sligo, with a B. A. Degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care. Julie is a daughter of Tony and Ursula (nee Keeney), Mc Cormack, Kilraine, Glenties.

Congratulations to Daniel Furey, who graduated recently from the Institute of Technology, Sligo, with a National Diploma in Business Studies in Recreation & Leisure. Daniel is a son of Patsy and Bried Furey, Ard Patrick, Glenties.

Congratulations to Fionnuala Boyle, who graduated recently from the Institute of Technology, Sligo with a National Diploma in Health Science & Physiology. Fionnuala is a daughter of Pat and Barbara Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties. Daniel and Fionnuala are studying for their degrees. The four graduates are all past pupils of St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties.

Congratulations to Christine and Liam Frize, Boston on the birth of their first child, a baby boy. Christine is a daughter of Cormac and Eileen (nee Sweeney) Gallagher, Main Street, Glenties.

Congratulations to Mary and Richard Pereton, Derries on the birth recently of their second child, a baby sister for Joshua. Mary is a daughter of Charlie and Anne Browne, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties.

Congratulations to Olivia Hegarty and Eamon Oates who got engaged recently. Olivia is a daughter of Christy and Una Hegarty, Mullantyboyle, Glenties. Eamon is from Sligo.

Charlie Shovlin from Kilraine, Glenties has been teaching Tai Chi for many years. He is one of the founding pioneers of Tai Chi in Ireland and is one of the first Irishmen to publish a book on the subject. He has also produced a teaching video, which is currently on sale at selected outlets around the country. Charlie now teaches this gentle art for both recreational and therapeutic use all over Co. Donegal. He is a renowned healer and people travel from all ever the county and beyond, to his Castle Healing Centre in Kilraine. The author has made every effort to describe the exercises in as simple a way as possible, with the help of photographs and diagrams, and explains the health benefits that go with each posture. A novice would find the video “Tai Chi for Everyone” a useful accompaniment to the book.

Glenties Notes on November 6th 2003

The death took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home on Wednesday 29th October 2003 of Kathleen Connaghan, Lacklea, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Thursday and to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Saturday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings and Psalm were by Kathleen’s grandchildren, Anne, Patrick and Mary Browne. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Graveyard. She is survived by her son, Jimmy, daughter, Mary Kate, grandchildren, son-in-law, Paddy Browne, brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Annie Connaghan, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband, John, who died on 20th October, predeceased her by just nine days.

Mary Anne Byrne, Drimnasillagh, Glenties died after a short illness, in Killybegs Community Hospital on Thursday 30th October 2003. Her remains were brought to her son’s home on Friday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties. Mary Anne is survived by her only son Patrick, grandchildren, Peter and Marion, daughter-in-law Mary Kate, nephews, nieces other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Peter predeceased her nineteen years ago and her brothers, Con and Pat Mc Dermott and sister, Cicily Mc Dermott also predeceased her. Mary Anne celebrated her 92nd Birthday last May.

Congratulations to Aoife Mc Donnell, St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, and Glen Road, Glenties, who was the winner in the Over 15s Donegal Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships, which were held recently in Buncrana. Another medal for Aoife to put with her All Ireland Ladies Football Medal.

Congratulations also to Eoin Wade, St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, who came second in the Over 15s Donegal Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in Buncrana.

Lucille Ward and John Kelly were married in the Church of Perpetual Succour, Glenfin on Saturday 25th October 2003. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Lucille is a daughter of Charlie and Kathleen Ward, Buncrubog, Glenties and John is a son of Francis and the late Jack Kelly, Clones, Co. Monaghan. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Carina Ward and Maeve Bell, friends, Kathleen Bonar and Aimee Mc Gonnell attended her. Michael Kelly, brother of the groom was bestman. Another brother, Colin and his nephew, Dermot Mc Dermott, and the bride’s nephew Adam Langan were groomsmen. Jake Ward, nephew of the bride was pageboy. Readings were by Rose Langan, sister of the bride and Christine Mc Dermott sister of the groom. Ryan Ward, nephew of the bride, Shannon Kelly and Ciara Mc Dermott, nieces of the groom, Miriam Ward, sister of the bride, Pat and Liam Ward, brothers of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. Aishling Mc Dermott, niece of the groom read a Reflection after Communion. The reception was held in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey and the honeymoon was spent in the Canaries.

Congratulations to Noreen and Kieran Kelly, Derries, Glenties on the birth recently in Letterkenny Hospital, of their first child, a baby boy.
