Glenties Notes on April 29th 2004

Congratulations to June (nee Conefry) and Hugo Gilroy, Altar, Glenties on the birth recently of their second child, a baby sister for Aidan.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Ann Furey, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on the death of her mother Bridget Mc Gill, Glengesh, Ardara, which took place in Killybegs Hospital on Monday 19th April 2004.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Pat Lough, Doohill, Ardara, who died as a result of an accident in Glenties on Thursday 22nd April 2004 and was buried in Ardara on Sunday.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Eilis Mc Nelis, Derries, Glenties on the sudden death of her uncle, Pat Rudden, Killybegs, which took place on Thursday 22nd April 2004.

Congratulations to the three young lads from St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties, and their team mates, who travelled to Birmingham last weekend to represent their county in the Sportshall Athletics Finals. Daniel Gildea and Thomas Scott are on the Donegal U-13 Boys Team and Anthony Byrne is on the U-15 Team. Congratulations also to their manager, local man Seanie Mc Devitt, Ard Patrick, who works so hard with them. Daniel is a son of Seamus and Maureen Gildea, Altar, Glenties and Thomas is a son of Tony and Kate Scott, Banganboy, Glenties. Anthony, who is from Ardara is a son of Marion and the late Donal Byrne. Marion formerly O’ Donnell is a native of Mullinamina, Glenties.

Congratulations to Carol Gallagher who graduated with Distinction in Psychiatric Nursing at Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Carol is a daughter of Phil and Nora Gallagher, Buncrubog, Glenties.

Congratulations to the hard working residents of Ard Mc Gill who were prizewinners in category 2 of the Glenties Electoral Area ‘Best Kept Housing Estate’ Competition.

Glenties Notes on April 15th 2004

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday 3rd April 2004 of Eugene Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home on Sunday afternoon and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn P.P. Falcarragh celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Eugene’s son Pat and his nephew Rory Boyle. Music and singing was by friends of the family. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Eugene is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters, Mary Teresa and Kathleen, son Pat, sister, Bridie, Letterkenny, brother, Joe, Canada, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His sister, Mary and brother, Packie predeceased him and another brother Daniel died as a child.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends of Maggie Gallagher, Beagh, Ardara, who died at her home on Tuesday 6th April 2004 and was buried in Ardara on Thursday. Maggie (formerly Mc Loone) was a native of Lugnagillow, Glenties. She celebrated her 102nd Birthday last September and was in good health until she suffered a stroke 12 weeks ago. Four sons, Denis and Seamus, Beagh, Ardara, Canon John, Kilcar and Patrick, Meath survive her.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Tuesday 30th March 2004 of Rita Gallagher, Glen Road, Glenties. Her remains were brought to the home of her niece Mary E. Gavigan later that evening and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday evening. Her grandnephew Fr. Adrian Gavigan and Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties received them. Fr. Adrian and Fr. Nigel also concelebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday morning. Readings were by Rita’s grandniece and grandnephew Aoife Mc Donnell and Columba Gavigan and her niece Teresa Mc Donnell read the Psalm. Alana and Briana Mc Donnell, Rose and Rickard Gallagher and Patricia Harkins read Prayers of the Faithful. Aaron and Aoife Gallagher and Shane Mc Donnell brought the Gifts to the Altar. All are grandnieces and grandnephews of the deceased. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Rita is survived by one sister, Dolly Mc Nelis in America, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two brothers, Pat and Columba Gallagher, predeceased her. Rita spent 44 years in the U.S.A. and it would have been four years in May since she returned to her native land.

Sincere sympathy is extended to family, relatives and friends of Eugene Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties, whose death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday last.

The times for Services in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties during Holy Week are: Holy Thursday –Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper – 7.30p.m. This Mass will end with a Eucharistic Procession to the Altar of Repose and there will be Adoration until 12.00 midnight. Everyone is encouraged to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament on this special evening. (Please note: there will be no Adoration during the day on Holy Thursday). Good Friday – The Celebration of the Lord’s Passion – 3.00p.m. Prayer around The Cross, in the Easter Garden in the small chapel at 9.00p.m. Holy Saturday – The Easter Vigil Mass – 9.00p.m.

Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh – Holy Thursday – 6.00p.m. Good Friday – 5.00p.m. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil – 11.00p.m.

Congratulations to Declan Flannery, Ardun, Glenties and his bride who were married on Saturday 20th March in Australia and are presently on holiday at home in Ardun. The Flannery family travelled to Australia for the happy occasion.

The death took place on Saturday 13th March 2004 in the Blackrock Clinic, Dublin, of Maura Mc Bride Donegal Road, Ballyshannon. Her remains were brought to her home later that evening and to St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyshannon on Monday. Requiem Mass was concelebrated with Fr. John Mc Loone P.P. Frosses, Maura’s brother as the chief concelebrant. Burial took place in the Abbey Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, John, sons, Shaun and Brendan, daughters, Denise, Ann and Maria, brothers, Michael, Mc Loone, Narin Road, Glenties, Fr. John, Frosses, twin sister Breid Boyle, Mullaghaduff, Sr. Anne Mc Loone, Stranorlar, nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Maura was a daughter of the late Joe (Barney) and Mary Ann Mc Loone, Main St. Glenties.

Congratulations to Paddy and Bridie Doherty, Mill Road, Glenties who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary recently.

Congratulations to Marion Byrne, Drimnasillagh, Glenties and John Orr, Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone who got engaged recently.
