Congratulations to the three girls; Niamh Bonner, Enya Mc Gill and Mary Mc Glynn, who received their First Holy Communion in Fintown on Sunday 6th June2004.

Congratulations and best wishes for many more to Maggie Bonner. Straboy, Glenties, who celebrated her 95th Birthday last week.

We were blessed with a beautiful day for our traditional Corpus Christi Procession, which took place after 11a.m. Mass last Sunday 13th June’04. Local man Fr. Adrian Gavigan carried the Blessed Sacrament. The Procession then proceeded to the Grotto, where there was Benediction. and then back to the Church. Fr. Prendergast recited the Rosary with a hymn by the choir between each decade. With the exception of maybe one or two years the Corpus Christi Procession has taken place in the town for around 60 years. From the first year of the Procession up until a few years ago the Strabane Silver Band came to Glenties for the Procession and added greatly to the occasion.

The Corpus Christi Procession is a continuation of the Celebration of the Eucharist. Immediately after Mass the Sacred Host, consecrated during the Mass, is borne out of the Church to allow the Christian faithful to “make public profession of faith and worship of the Most Blessed Sacrament”. Next Sunday 13th June, we will have our Annual Corpus Christi Procession in Glenties after 11a.m. Mass from the Church to the Grotto for Benediction (weather permitting). The people who are usually involved in the carrying of the canopy are asked to make themselves available, as well as those who usually steward the procession. The First Holy Communion children are invited to walk in the Procession in their First Holy Communion Dress.

With the exception of very few years the Corpus Christi Procession has been ongoing in Glenties for over 60 years. Sadly the numbers in the Procession have dwindled over the years.

St. Anthony’s Feast of the Lilies Mass will be celebrated in Rossnowlagh next Sunday 13th June. A bus will be leaving Mc Guinness’ Café at 6.30p.m.
