Glenties Notes on August 26th 2004

The wedding of Helen Boyle and Shaun Conaghan was celebrated in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 14th August 2004. Helen is from London and is a daughter of Chris (originally from Derries, Glenties) and Anne Boyle (originally from Aranmore) London. Shaun is a son of Paddy and Maggie Conaghan, Aranmore. Fr. John Mc Loone P.P. Frosses officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. The bride was given away by her father and was attended by her friend Jennifer Smith and her cousins Elaine and Siobhan Boyle. Dermot Conaghan, brother of the groom was bestman and Terry Conaghan his cousin and Michael Gallagher a friend were groomsmen. Harley Rossi and Chloe Mc Loone were flowergirls. Readings were by Angela Conaghan, sister of the groom and Donna Boyle, cousin of the bride. Donna Rodgers and Monica Gallagher friends of the bride and groom read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar and the ushers were Brian Boyle and Michael Gallagher brother and cousin of the bride. Music was by Deirdre Mooney and Lisa Philibin. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon is being spent in the Maldives. Best wishes to Helen and Shaun for their future happiness.

Newly ordained Fr. Paul Gallagher, who is helping out in the parish, gave his Blessing to a big number of people after 11a.m. Mass on Sunday.

Glenties Notes on August 19th 2004

Sincere sympathy is extended to Fr. Nigel on the death of his father Patrick Gallagher, Brinaleck, Gweedore, which took place on Wednesday 11th August 2004.

We welcome to Glenties the newly ordained Fr. Paul Gallagher from Falcarragh. Fr. Paul was ordained for the Diocese on the 20th June last in the Cathedral in Letterkenny. He has been appointed to the Parish of Iniskeel for the next few months to facilitate Fr. Prendergast’s recovery.

Kerry Maxwell and Vincent White came from London to be married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 7th August 2004. Kerry is a daughter of Bernie and the late Brendan Maxwell, Lifford and a granddaughter of the late Sonny and Bridget Mc Dyer, Kilraine, Glenties. Vincent is a son of Colin and Michelle White, Essex, England. Fr. Kevin Gillespie officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Her uncle Alec gave the bride away and her cousin Hetty Mc Dyer and the groom’s sister Sarah White attended her. Colin White father of the groom was bestman and a friend Graeme Archer was groomsman. Bridget Mc Dyer and Gerrard Mc Hugh, cousins of the bride were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by Bernie Maxwell and Michelle White mothers of the bride and groom. Charlotte, Cameron and Conor Jones, cousins of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Hayley and Jo-Anne White, sisters of the groom brought the Gifts to the Altar and the ushers were Jamie, Brendan and Luke Maxwell, brothers of the bride. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon was spent in the Maldives.

The death took place in London on Thursday 29th July 2004 of Michelle Mc Glynn, daughter of Adrian and Louise Mc Glynn, London. She was 27 years old. Michelle wished to be buried in Glenties and her remains were brought to the home of her fiancé, Patrick Mc Gill, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on Tuesday 3rd August and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties assisted by Fr. Kevin Gillespie C.C. Fintown and Fr. John Joe Duffy, C.C. Glencolmcille celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Denis Mc Glynn and Jim Mc Guinness. Siobhan Kennedy and Carol Mc Gill read Prayers of the Faithful. Loraine and Isabella Mc Glynn, Margaret Gildea and Megan Byrne brought the Gifts to the Altar. Before the final blessing Michelle’s brother Adrian read a poem which he had composed and her other brother Denis gave the eulogy. Music and singing was by Siobhan Mc Elhinney, Denise Boyle, Thomas Donoghue, Amanda Mc Guigan, Pat O’Donnell and Elaine Kennedy. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Michelle is survived by her parents, Adrian and Louise, brothers, Denis and Adrian, sister, Loraine, fiancé Patrick, niece, Alannah Louise, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her parents are both natives of Donegal, her mother (formerly Molloy) is from near Fintown and her father is from Dungloe.

The death took place in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny on Friday 30th July 2004 of Rose Boyle, Burtonport and formerly of Ardconnell, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Saturday and to St. Mary’s Church, Kincasslagh on Monday morning. Fr. John Joe Duffy was the chief celebrant at Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. Rose is survived by her husband, Hughie, son John, daughter, Helena, brothers, James Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties, Charlie, Loughfad, sisters, Lena Dooley, The Rock, Glenties, Mary, Mc Carthy, Portnoo, Bernie Mc Gill, Aighe, Ardara, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her brother Neil predeceased her about twenty years ago.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Pat and Hugh Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties on the death of their uncle, Tony Breslin, Tullintain, Bruckless which took place in Letterkenny, Hospital on Saturday 7th August 2004; also to Tony’s family, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews and all his relatives and friends.

Congratulations to Ann Marie Kennedy, Main St. Glenties and Johnny Mc Cann, Donegal Town, who got engaged recently.

Congratulations to Kerry Maxwell, Lifford and Vincent White, London, who were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday last 7th August 2004. Kerry is a daughter of Bernie (formerly Mc Dyer and granddaughter of the late Sonny and Bridget, Kilraine).

Nancy & Charles Mulhern, family from Glenties now residing in Brandon, Florida, USA, via Philadelphia, PA, announce the Baptism of their first three grandsons, Matthew, Joshua and Connor Mulhern. All were baptized on July 31 at San Juan del Rio Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. Father Edward Booth presiding.

The marriage of Sheila Mc Dermott and Colm Harold took place in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Glenties on Saturday 24th July 2004. Sheila is the eldest daughter of Dannie and Mary Mc Dermott, Meenagrubby, Glenties and Colm is the youngest son of Bridget and the late Charlie Harold, New Mills. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Ann Marie Hunter and Teresa Mc Dermott attended her. Martin Harold, the groom’s brother was bestman and a friend, Michael Farrelly was groomsman. Ryan Hunter a nephew of the bride was Ring Bearer. Readings were by Michael Mc Dermott, brother of the bride and Marie Mc Laughlin, sister of the groom. Colette Harold, sister of the groom, Martina and Daniel Mc Dermott, sister and brother of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. Singing was by an uncle and cousin of the groom, Peadar and Mary Toner. Daniel Mc Dermott, the bride’s brother was Altar Server. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon is being spent in Florida.

Congratulations to Joe and Anne Craig, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this week.

The death took place in Killybegs Hospital on Monday 26th July 2004 of Phonsie Breslin, Mullanmore, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home later that evening and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday morning. Fr. Denis Quinn, Falcarragh, nephew of the deceased, assisted by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir, Glenties, Fr. Francis Mc Loone, Letterkenny, Fr. Sean Gallagher, Gortahork, Fr. Kevin Gillespie, Fintown and Fr. Paddy Doherty, Derry celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Phonsie’s nieces, Mary Quinn and Annette Breslin. Fr. Nigel read Prayers of the Faithful. Annie Mc Kenna and Evelyn Murkin, nieces and Cadhla and Odharnaith Mc Kenna, grandnephew and grandniece brought the Gifts to the Altar. Gerry Mc Kenna read a Reflection after Communion. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ, Vincent and Peter Campbell on fiddle and singing was by Nora Gallagher. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Two brothers John and Jim predeceased Phonsie. He is survived by one brother, Patsy, Frosses and one sister, Maureen Quinn, Greenans, nieces, nephew, grandniece, grandnephew, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary, Jimmy and Patrick Campbell, Main St. Glenties on the death of their uncle, James Mc Cready, which took place in Corr Point, Lettermacaward on Sunday 25th July 2004 and to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Boyle families in Glenties and Burtonport, on the death of Rose, which took place on Friday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Michelle Mc Glynn, London, whose funeral takes place today Thursday.

The Annual Raphoe Diocesan Pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Shrine in Knock with Bishop Boyce takes place on Saturday 14th August. This is a special year in Knock as it is the 125th anniversary of the apparitions. A bus will leave Edeninfagh Church car park at 8.00a.m. and the Community Centre, Glenties at 8.15a.m. For bookings contact Mc Guinness’ Café at 9551284.

Mass will be celebrated in Edeninfagh Graveyard next Sunday 8th August at 3.00p.m.
