Glenties Notes on October 28th 2004

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 17th October 2004 of Hannah Keeney, Straoughter, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Frances Cassidy, niece of the deceased. Burial took place in Kilraine Graveyard. Hannah is survived by two sisters, Bridget, Straoughter and Annie, England, two brothers James and Patrick, England, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. She was predeceased by sisters Maggie and Mary Ellen and brothers Francie and John.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Friday 22nd October 2004 of Jimmy Toland, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home that evening and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Paul Gallagher and Canon Leo Moore concelebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Jimmy’s brother-in-law Gene Moscoe. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Jimmy is survived by his wife Sarah, Ard Mc Gill, sister Rose and her husband, Gene Moscoe, California, sister-in-law Sarah, Mayo, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His sister Kathleen predeceased him.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Phelan, Main St. Glenties on the death of her brother, Francie Mc Cormick, Glenfin, which took place last week; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Kennedy, Letterilly, Glenties on the death of her brother Charlie O’ Donnell, Dooey, Lettermacaward, which took place last week; also to all the relatives and friends.

Congratulations to the following who recently graduated from Letterkenny Institute of Technology; –Gavin Bonner, son of Eddie and Anne Bonner, Ardconnell, Glenties, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Computing; Ben Craig, son of Bried Roog, Meenahalla, Glenties, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computing with Data Communications; Gerard and Joseph Gildea, sons of Gerry and Sarah Gildea, Straboy, Glenties who graduated with a National Diploma in Electronic Engineering; Carol Mc Gill, daughter of Jimmy and Bella Mc Gill, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties, who graduated with a National Certificate in Business Studies; Andrea Molloy, daughter of Gerry and Martina Molloy, Mullanmore, Glenties, who graduated with a National Certificate in Business Studies; Adrain Mc Geehan, son of Owen and Jenny Mc Geehan, Fintown, who graduated with a National Certificate in Construction; Ross Campbell, son of John and Shirley Campbell, Glenmakeniff, Glenties who graduated with a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering and Patsy Furey, Ard Patrick, Glenties, who graduated with a National Diploma in Computing Information Technology Support.

Congratulations to Aine Furey, daughter of Patsy and Bríd Furey, Ard Patrick, Glenties, who graduated from University College, Galway with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree; Elizabeth Greenwood, daughter of Dave and Angela Greenwood, Mullinamina, Glenties who graduated from University College, Galway with an Honours Bachelor of Corporate Law Degree. Congratulations to Lorraine Furey, daughter of Martin and Anne Furey, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties, who graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with an Honours Bachelor of Business Studies with French Degree.

Congratulations to Martin Kennedy, Main St. Glenties and Anne Marie Mc Bride, Gweedore who got engaged recently.

Congratulations to our Minor Team who won the Donal MacBhaird Cup for the second year in succession when they defeated the Kilcar team in the replay of the Minor A championship in Ballybofey on Sunday 17th October 2004. A large cavalcade accompanied the team on their journey home and bonfires blazed along the route. There was a great crowd in town to welcome the team with the cup. Well done again Lads!

Best wishes to Michael Fitzgerald, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties who is running with the Eamonn Coghlan Team in the Dublin Marathon next Monday 25th October. All monies raised will go directly to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children and a donation will be made to the Grace Nolan Foundation. You are not too late yet to make a donation. Glenties Notes on October 14th 2004

It’s that time of year again! Time to put on your thinking caps! The Annual Witches Fancy Dress Ball is on Sunday 24th October in the Limelight, Glenties. It is strictly over 18s. Doors will be open at 10.00p.m. Music is by ‘Mary B. and The Monsters’ and admission is 10Euro. There will be plenty of prizes. If you want your face painted you can have it done in Molloy’s Bar from 8.00p.m. Since it’s inception the Witches Ball has been a great success and one not to be missed.

The annual Senior Citizens Party is in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Sunday 5th December. This year it will start with Mass at 3.00p.m. in the hotel. Dinner will be served after Mass followed by music and entertainment.

Michael Fitzgerald, 13 Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties will be joining the Eamonn Coghlan team running in the Dublin Marathon on the 25th October. Apart from all the training required to take on the marathon challenge of running 26 miles 385 yards, Michael has undertaken to raise a minimum of 1,000 Euro to help sick children. Your help is needed and time is running out. There are sponsorship cards in the local Credit Union Office, Post office, Highlands Hotel and Olive’s Shoe Shop. He hopes to have cards in Ardara and other areas as well. Anyone wishing to make a donation may ring Michael’s home number – 9551044. All funds raised will go directly to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin and a donation will be made to the Grace Nolan Foundation. . Any support you can give Michael in his challenge will be greatly appreciated especially by the sick children who will benefit from your generosity. This year is the 25th Anniversary of the Dublin Marathon and will be Michael’s 24th marathon, which is quite a record. We wish him well in this challenge.

Best wishes to our Minor Team on Sunday next when they play Kilcar again in the replay of the County Final.

Congratulations to Peadar Molloy, Lacklea, Glenties on his success on Winning Streak game show last Saturday night. Peadar won a car and some cash and is the first person from Glenties to appear on the show. Here’s hoping he is the first of many!

On Saturday 25th September Kelley Dawson and Trevor Curran were married in St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny. Fr. John Joe Duffy officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Kelley is a daughter of Bill and Mary Dawson, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties and Trevor is a son of Leo and Sadie Curran, Main St. Rathmullen. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters Karolyne Doherty and Lesley Dawson, the groom’s sister Maria Curran and a friend Fidelma Toland attended her. The groom’s brother Mark was bestman and his cousins Patrick and Paul Patton and Gary Curran were groomsmen. Nieces of the bride, Natasha and Tara Dawson and Lauryn Doherty were flowergirls and Ryan Patton cousin of the groom and Jonathon Dawson nephew of the bride were pageboys. Readings were by Anne Doherty and Catriona Kelly friends of the couple. Julie Dawson and Darren Doherty, sister-in-law and nephew of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Holiday Inn, Letterkenny and the honeymoon was spent in Lanzorote.

Congratulations to Maureen and Daniel Kennedy, Letterilly, Glenties on the birth recently of their second child, a baby brother for John Hugh.

The death took place in London on Thursday 23rd September 2004 of Bernard Mc Loone, formerly of Mully, Glenties. His remains were brought to the home of his brother John in Mully on Friday 1st October and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 2nd. His cousin Fr. John Gallagher P.P. Kilcar assisted by Fr. Paul Gallagher Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Bernard’s brother John and his niece Mairead. His other niece Grainne read Prayers of the Faithful. Richard and Grainne Mc Loone nephew and niece of the deceased brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the Old Graveyard with his parents James and Margaret. He is survived by his only brother John, Mully, nieces Mairead and Grainne and nephew Richard, cousins, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
