Congratulations to Vincent and Peggy Campbell, Meenahalla, Glenties who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last weekend.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Noreen Melly, Gortnasillagh, Glenties on the death of her nephew, Hugo Meehan, Killian, Inver, which took place recently; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Byrne family, Maas, Glenties on the death of their niece, Sharon Murphy, Donegal Town which took place last week in Dublin; also to her parents, sisters, brothers, other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of James Boyle, Loughnabradden and Nellie Boyle Doochary, who were buried in Fintown on Monday 10th January 2005.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, sister, relatives and friends of Nan Mc Gill, Edergole, Ardara (formerly Dunleavy, Meenahalla, Glenties), who died on Wednesday 12th January 2005 and was buried in Ardara on Friday.

Sincere sympathy is extended to her daughter Mary Alice, The Rock, Glenties, to other members of the family, brother, relatives and friends of Yvonne Kelly, Garraworth, Ardara (formerly of Glenties) who died on Thursday 13th January 2005 and was buried in the New Graveyard, Glenties on Saturday.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Felix Jackson, Mill Road, Glenties on the death of his father, Alex Jackson, which took place recently in England.

On Friday 21st January ’05 a Concert and Dance in aid of the Asian Relief Fund will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. Doors open at 8.00p.m. and the first act is at 8.30p.m. Tickets are 10 Euro and are available at local outlets. Vincent & Jimmy Campbell & Friends, Bonner/Cannon School of Dancing, Erins Own, Street Life, The Chancers, Cufflinks and Flipside are some of the artists who will be providing the entertainment. Proceeds will go to the Irish Red Cross. Any spot prizes from local businesses will be kindly accepted for a raffle on the night and can be left at Mc Glinchey’s or Mc Guinness’ Café.

Glenties Notes on January 13th 2005

Eileen Gallagher, widow of the late Thady Gallagher, Manchester and formerly of Tullynaglaggin, Glenties died in Manchester on 24th December 2004. Her remains came to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday 6th January’05. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass on Friday morning at 11.00a.m. Readings were by Eileen’s nephews, James Toman and Ian Foley and her nieces Marie Boyle and Teresa Monaghan read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by nieces Josephine Harkin and Fidelma Gillespie. Eileen’s son Joseph gave a eulogy reflecting on his mother’s life. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell and the altar servers were grandnephew John Gallagher and a friend John Melly. Eileen, who was from Kerry, was buried in the New Graveyard in Glenties with her husband Thady, who predeceased her six and a half years ago. She is survived by her son Joseph and his wife Elaine, son Paul and his wife Julie, two grandsons, James and Robert, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, Peter Gallagher, Main St. Glenties, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

On Saturday 1st January 2005 Paddy Campbell and Claire Courtney were married in St. Comgall’s Chapel, Antrim. Paddy is a son of Con and Kathleen Campbell, Lacklea, Glenties and Claire is a daughter of Terence and Maureen Courtney, Orian Road, Antrim. Fr. Anthony Devlin officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters Angela and Emma Courtney were bridesmaids. The groom’s brother Seamus was bestman and Paul Carron a friend was groomsman. Anthony Courtney and Dermot Campbell, brothers of the bride and groom were ushers. Readings were by Sinéad Campbell, sister of the groom and a friend, Mark Hanly. Donal Clancy and Rory Mullan, friends of the groom read Prayers of the Faithful. Kathleen Campbell, mother of the groom and Bridie Mc Cusker, aunt of the bride brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and vocals was by Emma Murtagh. The reception was held in the Glengorm Hotel, Antrim and the honeymoon was spent in Hong Kong.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Wednesday 5th January 2005 of Annie Ward, Mill Road, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday afternoon. Fr. Paul Gallagher and Canon Leo Moore concelebrated Requiem Mass at 2.00p.m. Readings were by Declan Ward and Sinéad Shovlin. Patricia Campbell, Michael Furey, John, Brian and Anne Ward read Prayers of the Faithful. Pat Craig and Tracy O’Donnell brought the Gifts to the Altar. All are grandchildren of the deceased. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Annie is survived by sons Liam and Kieran, Glenties, Josie and Gerry, Dublin, daughters Mary Craig, Dublin, Bernadette O’Donnell, England, Nancy Shovlin, Narin, Teresa Furey, Mullanmore, Glenties, sisters Ellen Boyle, Mullantyboyle, Glenties, Kathleen Doherty, U.S.A. 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Packie predeceased Annie 40 years ago. Her brothers Tommy, Paddy and Jim Boyle.

Congratulations to Janice and Gerry Doherty, Tullyard Road, Glenties on the birth in Letterkenny Hospital of their second child, on Sunday 2nd January 2005, a baby sister for Aoise.

Congratulations to Brendan O’ Donnell, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Teresa Connaghan, Drimarone who got engaged during the festive season.

Congratulations to Daniel Furey who graduated recently from the Institute of Technology, Sligo with a Bachelor of Business Studies Degree. Daniel is a son of Patsy and Bríd Furey, Ard Patrick, Glenties.
