Glenties Notes on April 28th 2005

SUAS is an education project, which works with slum children in Calcutta. Through this work, 1000 children get into primary education per year. 25 Irish students are going out this Summer, including local girl Eleanor Cape. To support Eleanor’s participation in the project there will be a Coffee Morning on Friday 29 th April in Good Earth, Glenties between 10.00a.m. and 1.30p.m. Please come along and enjoy delicious home baking and support this very worthy cause.

Congratulations to the 32 young people who received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Philip Boyce in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 24 th April ’05.

Local children will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 7 th May at 11.00a.m. Mass and children from Edeninfagh will receive their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family on Sunday 15 th May.

Best wishes to Brendan Mc Dyre, Glenties who left here last Friday for Dublin on the first leg of his journey to Europe. He flew out to France on Saturday morning and started his 800km ‘Camino De Santiago’ walk from southern France to North East Spain on Sunday morning. Brendan has undertaken this great challenge to raise funds for a much needed gymnasium for Scoil Mhuire so make it worth his effort and give him your support.

The Ard Patrick Jubilee committee will hold their last Pub Quiz this Friday night 29 th April at 9.30p.m. in Molloy’s Bar. Cash Prizes. Please come along and give your support.

A computer course will begin in June (39 hours per week) in Mullanmore School. If interested ring 9551192.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Owen Mc Geehan, Meenmore, Fintown and to all the relatives and friends of Willie Campbell, Glenleighan, Fintown, who died last week.

Following a meeting last Wednesday evening it has been decided that the 11.00a.m. Mass in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties, on Sunday 8th May will be celebrated as the Inaugural Children’s Mass, for which the Children of the Parish will prepare the Liturgy.

A Day of Prayer and Healing with Eddie Stones and Fr. Noel Burke will be held in Clonfert on Saturday 30th April. A bus will leave Stranorlar Chapel car park at 6.00a.m., Donegal Town at 6.30a.m. and Ballyshannon at 6.50a.m. The cost for the day is €27 and this includes an evening meal. The annual Book Fair is taking place in Scoil Mhuire this week from Tuesday 12th until Friday 15th April from 3 – 5 p.m. Everyone welcome.

The University of Ulster Choir – ‘The Dalriada Singers’ featuring conductor Sean Ryan will perform in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday 22nd April at 8.30p.m. Admission is free. There will be a collection in aid of Donegal Hospice.

Charles J. Shovlin, The Castle, Kilraine, Glenties will be giving a Grounding Workshop from 10.00a.m. until 4.30p.m. in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April. Congratulations to Hughie Gallagher, St. Riaghan’s National School, Drimnacrosh, who was the overall winner in the Ulster Bank Christmas Card competition. Hughie won a trip to Euro Disney for himself and his family. He is a son of Joe and Mary Gallagher, Derries, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Michael Fitzgerald, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties on the death of his aunt Marian O’ Donnell, Dunkineely, which took place last week.

An Ráth Drama Group presents ‘Troubled Bachelors’ (3 act comedy) by A.J. Stanley in the Methodist Hall, Ardara on Wednesday 13th Thursday 14th and Saturday 16th April at 9.00p.m. Admission is €8 for adults and €4 for Children and OAPs.

You still have a chance to see ‘Tea & Sympathy’ a comedy by Paula Mc Mullan presented by the Iniskeel Drama Group in the Iniskeel Hall, Portnoo next Saturday 9th April.
