Michael Shovlin and Rosemary Dunnion were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Saturday 14^th May 2005. Fr. Austin Lafferty, P.P. Ardara officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Michael is a son of the late Peter and Annie Shovlin, Kilraine, Glenties and Rosemary is a daughter of Willie and Sarah Haughey, Maghera, Ardara. Her son Jason gave the bride away and her daughter Donna was her bridesmaid. Michéal Shovlin, son of the groom was bestman. Sophie Dunnion, granddaughter of the bride was flowergirl and Leon Shovlin, grandson of the groom was pageboy. The bride’s mother and the groom’s aunt, Eileen Kennedy brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel Ardara and the honeymoon was spent touring.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Seonie O’ Donnell, Lettermacaward, who died in Harbour Lights Nursing Home, Bruckless on Thursday 19^th May 2005. His remains were brought to St. Bridget’s Church, Lettermacaward on Friday and burial took place on Saturday after Requiem Mass. Master O’Donnell was Principal in St. Connell’s Boys School in Glenties for a number of years.

Glenties Bowling Club held their Annual Singles Tournament recently over four nights. The 16 who qualified for the Finals night were – J.Braiden, T. Cathcart, F. Maquire, A. Brown, R. Doonan, H. Gawley, Enniskillen, M. Boyd, C. Mabon, Dunkineely, A.Buchanan, Raphoe, J.J. Campbell, Omagh, T. Wilson, Sion Mills, T. Patton, Strabane, J.Quinn, Ballylennon, J. Hegarty, Pat Walsh and Christy Hegarty, Glenties. Brown, Doonan, Gawley, Patton, Quinn, John & Christy Hegarty and Pat Walsh got through to the quarter-finals with J. Quinn, J. Hegarty Pat Walsh and C. Hegarty going through to the semi-finals. Runner-up was Pat Walsh and Christy Hegarty was the winner of the Tournament.

The Golden Jubilee weekend on the Ard Patrick Estate starts on Friday 3^rd June 2005 with open air Mass on the Green at Ard Patrick, at 8.30p.m. followed by refreshments. A ‘Sing Song’ will be held in Molloy’s Bar at 10.00p.m. Saturday 4^th June is a ‘Fun Day’ at the Comprehensive Field with Open Sports for under 12s and novelty events for all ages, children and adults. There will be a Barbecue on the Green at 6.00p.m. and Presentations of Sports Prizes and Art & Poetry Prizes, followed by Music and ‘Sing Song’ on the Green. Sunday is another ‘Fun Day’ for all the family on the Green with Bouncy Castles, Disco and Music. A Presentation Dinner Dance will be held in the Highlands Hotel at 8.30p.m. with music by Mary B. and Paul.

Our annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place immediately after 11.00a.m. Mass next Sunday 29^th May from the Church to the Grotto. Those who are usually involved in the carrying of the canopy and erecting the altar at the Grotto are asked to make themselves available, as well as those who usually steward the Procession. The First Holy Communion children are invited to walk in the Procession in their First Holy Communion Dress.

John is a son of Paddy and Mary Doherty, Stranaglough, Glenties and Majella is a daughter of Seamus and Eve Doyle, Colooney. Fr. John Maloney officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and her sister Noleen Doyle was her bridesmaid. Paul Doherty, brother of the groom was bestman. Megan and Mark Doherty were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by Tracy Devine, a sister of the groom and Paul Hannon, nephew of the bride. Shannon Doyle, niece and Ethan Hannon, nephew of the bride and Amada Doherty, sister of the groom read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Great Southern Hotel, Sligo and the honeymoon was spent touring.

The death took place at her home on Monday 11 th April 2005 of Annie Mc Hugh, Stranaglough, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties and Fr. John Mc Loone P.P. Frosses concelebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Annie’s son Seamus and grandniece Maria Mc Devitt. Shirley Campbell, niece, Glenda Kane & Diane Callaghan, grandnieces, and Megan Mc Hugh, granddaughter read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by granddaughters, Louise & Patricia Mc Ginty and Megan Mc Hugh and grandniece, Auveen Gallagher. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Annie is survived by sons Seamus, Frosses, John Joe, U.S.A. Charles, Stranaglough, daughters Mary Ellen, Letterkenny and Carol Ann U.S.A. grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband James predeceased her in 1992. Five brothers Denis, Paddy, Charlie, Eddie and Francie and two sisters, Nellie and Bridget also predeceased.

Milford officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass, assisted by Rev. Gordon Freeman, Glenties. Charlie is a son of Richard and Susan Hanlon, Tullyard, Glenties and Julie is a daughter of Susan and the late Paddy Deeney, Lehardan, Rathmullan. Her brother, James gave the bride away and her niece Nicola Deeney and Dorothy Walker, sister of the groom, attended her. William Hanlon, brother of the groom was bestman and John Deeney, brother of the bride was groomsman. God-daughters of the bride, Amy Nelis and Megan Kelly were flowergirls and Pearse Neilly, cousin of the bride and Reece Hanlon, nephew of the groom were pageboys. The reception was held in the Milford Inn and the honeymoon was spent in St. Lucia and Barbados.

Mathew Murphy, Kieran Sharkey, Amy Harvey, John Fischer, Joanne Gallagher, Stephen Moore, Hannah Molloy, Ethan O’Donnell, Nabla Furey, Emily Molloy and Connell Mc Devitt brought the Gifts to the Altar. Ronan O’Donnell was the Narrator. Reece Mc Dyer read a Child’s Prayer before Communion and Ailbhe O’Donnell read a Child’s Prayer after Communion and on behalf of the parents Kevin Keeney read a Prayer after Communion. Music and singing was by the children’s choir under the guidance of Anne Mc Dwyer.

An Old Time Dance will be held in Edeninfagh Hall, Glenties next Saturday 14^th May. Dancing starts at 9.00p.m. Music is by local artists including Vincent, Jimmy and Peter Campbell and a variety of visiting artists. Admission is 5.00Euro.

The people of Termon Parish have organised a Mass of Thanksgiving to mark the Silver Jubilee of Fr. Pat Mc Hugh. As Fr. Mc Hugh served here in our parish, the parishioners of Glenties have been invited to the function. The Mass will be celebrated at 6.00p.m. on Sunday 12^th June in St. Columba’s Church, Termon, with refreshments afterwards in Termon Hall.

The death took place after a brief illness, on Sunday 24^th April 2005 of Elma Mc Dermott, (originally Cork) Celbridge, Co. Kildare. Her brother-in-law, Fr. Padraig Mc Dermott, Mississippi, assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn, P.P. Falcarragh, Fr. Francis Mc Loone, Adm. Letterkenny, Fr. Hurley, Rockwell College, (cousin of Elma’s), Fr. Martin Daly, Principal of C.U.S. College, Leeson Street, Dublin and Fr. Carmody P.P. Celbridge concelebrated Requiem Mass on Wednesday 27^thApril and burial took place in Celbridge afterwards. Elma is survived by her husband, Gerry and only son, Trevor, brothers, Sean, Vincent, Tim and Finbar, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.Her husband Gerry is a son of the late Con and Fannie Mc Dermott, Edeninfagh, Glenties and the family were regular visitors to the area. Many relatives and neighbours from The Glen of Glenties travelled to Celbridge for the funeral.

Local children will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties next Saturday 7^th May at 11.00a.m. Mass and children from Edeninfagh will receive their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family on Sunday 15^th May.

The 11.00a.m. Mass in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties, next Sunday 8^th May will be celebrated as the Inaugural Children’s Mass, for which the Children of the Parish will prepare the Liturgy.

Very many thanks to all those who helped with the Calcutta Project last weekend. Thanks to those who helped with the coffee morning, those who donated so generously both at the church door on Saturday night and privately. Thank you also to Fr. Pat and Fr. Nigel for their kind help. In all 2000 euro was raised over the weekend. This will be sufficient to enable Eleanor Cape from the town to spend the summer as a volunteer in Calcutta, as well as making a significant money contribution to the work of the Development Action Society in India, which aims to give poor children from the edge of Calcutta a start in education.

The council members of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association intend to have a Mass and Presentation of Pins during the month of May. Any member who feels they are eligible for a Gold, Silver, or Full Membership Pin can contact any member of the council before 10^th May.

The annual Swimming Gala will take place this year on Saturday 14^th May at 7.30p.m. in Letterkenny Swimming Pool. Names will be taken in the schools. This is a fun gala open to all children who have done some swimming throughout the year. Bus leaves Ardara Community Centre at 6.00p.m. and Glenties Comprehensive School at 6.15p.m. Cost per child will be 5.00E to be collected on the day. Looking forward to an enjoyable evening.
