Glenties Notes on 23rd January 2006

A Table Quiz in aid of St. Columba’s Comprehensive School Student Pilgrimage to Medjugorje in association with the Orphanage Charity in Medjugorje will take place in the Highlands Hotel on Thursday 26th January at 8.00p.m. Tables of four – E 40. Refreshments will be served. Please support this worthwhile event.

Glenties Pioneer Total Abstinence Centre wishes to thank sincerely all those who subscribed to their recent Church Gate Collection.

The death took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home on Friday 13th January 2006 of Annie Hanlon, Tullyard, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her son Louis home on Saturday and to the Parish Church, Glenties on Sunday afternoon. Rev. Gordon Freeman conducted the Funeral Service at 3.30p.m. Burial took place afterwards in the adjoining Graveyard. Annie is survived by her husband, Sonny, son, Louis and daughter-in-law Joan, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. She spent all her life in Tullyard until recent years and celebrated her 97th Birthday on the 19th December 2005.

The death took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home on Sunday 15th January 2006 of Jimmy Kennedy, Mully, Glenties. His remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Monday. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 11.00a.m. Burial took place afterwards in Edeninfagh Graveyard. Sincere sympathy is extended to his relatives and friends. His only brother, Patrick predeceased Jimmy about five years ago.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Mc Dermott, Meenagrubby, Glenties on the death of her nephew, Donal Mc Ginley, which took place in Luton, England on New Year’s Eve and who was buried in Glenfin on 11th January’06.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Noel Conefry and family, Mill Road, Glenties on the death of Noel’s brother, Thomas Conefry, which took place in The Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, on Friday 20th January ‘06.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Annie Devenney, Ard Patrick, Glenties on the death of her sister May Gallagher, which took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Monday 23rd January’06.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 8th January 2006 of Bried Breslin, Glen Road Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Monday afternoon and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday morning. Fr. Adrian Gavigan, Chaplain Letterkenny Hospital assisted by Fr. Paul Gallagher C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by daughter-in-law Adele Breslin and granddaughter, Brenda Mc Glynn. Richard Mackey, son-in-law, Michael and Christine Breslin and Bried Mc Glynn, grandchildren and Mary O’ Donnell, niece, read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by son-in-law, Tony Gaffney, and granddaughter, Deirdre Mc Glynn. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Bried’s husband, Neil predeceased her over five years ago. She is survived by sons, Michael, Hugh and Gerry, daughters, Maureen, Breda, Catherine and Teresa, sisters, Mary and Annie, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Sonny Hanlon, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties on the death of his wife Annie, which took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home on Friday last and to her son Louis and his wife Joan, Tullyard and to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Hegarty, Meenalargan, Glenties and family, on the death of John’s sister, Anastasia McNelis, Loughros Point, Ardara (formerly Meenawania, Glenties) who died in Glasgow at the weekend.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Jimmy Kennedy, Mully, Glenties, who died in Harbour Lights Nursing Home on Sunday last.

Children from Drimnacrosh and Kilkenny National Schools and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties at 11.00a.m. on Saturday 6th May.

Night Classes beginning on Monday 23rd January in Glenties Comprehensive School are – Beginners Computers, Reflexology and Conversational French and on Tuesday 24th January – Sewing and Craft, Intermediate Computers, Yoga, Advanced Tai Chi and Digital Photography. For more information and booking ring 9551172. All fees must be paid in full before classes commence. Concessionary fee for unwaged participants. Please note that satisfactory evidence of unemployment must be produced on enrolment. All participants must be at least 18 years of age.

The Crib donations for the Pakistan / Asian Earthquake Appeal in Glenties amounted to E 1, 363.00 and in Edeninfagh it amounted to E 100.00. Thank you for you generous contributions.

The Donegal Branch of the Foster Care Association Church Gate Collection in Glenties and Edeninfagh amounted to €735.93. Thanks to everyone for their generosity.

Glenties Notes on January 14th 2006

On Monday 2nd January 2006 Olivia Furey and Brian Hastings were married in The Church of the Perpetual Succour, Glenfin. Fr. Hugh Sweeney officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Olivia is the youngest daughter of John and Kathleen Furey, Upper Kilraine, Glenties and Brian is a son of Hilda and the late William Hastings, Knightsbridge, Co. Derry. Her father gave the bride away and her sister Greta Marley and her nieces, Amy and Lisa Walsh and friend, Helena Harton attended her. Brian Dougherty, friend of the groom was bestman and a cousin Richard Hastings was groomsman. Lauren Furey was a flowergirl and Jack Marley was a pageboy. Readings were by Donna Furey, sister-in-law of the bride and Gillian, a friend of the bride. The bestman, groomsman and bridesmaids read Prayers of the Faithful. Rosita Kerr, sister of the bride and her friend, Geraldine Doherty brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Mill Park Hotel, Donegal Town and the honeymoon is being spent in Thailand.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Jimmy Doherty, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent and Bried Mc Hugh, Narin Road, Glenties on the death of their aunt, Annie Doherty, Ballybofey, which took place in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Friday 30th December 2005.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Breid Breslin, Glen Road, Glenties, who died on Sunday 8th January 2006 in Letterkenny Hospital.

Cairdeas na bhFidileirí are holding an Old Time Dance in Edeninfagh Hall on Saturday 21st January. Dancing is from 8.30p.m. – 11.00p.m. Music is by the Campbell Brothers and visiting musicians. Admission including light refreshments is €5.00.

Set and Ceilí classes will resume on Thursday 19th January at 8.00p.m. in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties.
