Glenties Notes 28th December 2007

The death took place suddenly, at her home of Aggie O’Donnell, Ard Patrick, Glenties on Wednesday 12th December 2007. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 15th. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Philip Daly concelebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00a.m. Readings were by her daughters Teresa O’ Donnell and Ann Finn. The psalm was sung by her son Pat. Aggie’s grandchildren, Colleen and Gemma O’ Donnell and Gavin Maloney read prayers of the Faithful. Her cousins Angela Greenwood and Nora Hamill and granddaughters, Gemma and Caoimhe O’ Donnell brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by the local choir. She is survived by her daughters, Ann, Mary and Teresa, sons, Tommy, Pat and John Francis, sister, Mary Gallagher, U.S.A., grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband John predeceased her on the 7th November 2004 and her sister Breege Hogg also predeceased her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Nuala Webster, Edeninfagh and Manus Byrne, Stracastle, Glenties on the death of their brother, Tony Byrne, Borrisoleigh, Co. Tipperary (formerly Stracastle, Glenties) which took place recently; also to his family and to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John mc Cool, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on the death of his mother, Juliana Mc Cool, Ballybofey which took place last week in hospital in Dublin; also to all the relatives and friends.

The Playgroup / Afterschool will re-open on Monday 7th January 2008.

Applications are invited for the job of Grave Digger in Glenties Graveyard, beginning in January 2008. Please contact the Parish Priest.

The recent Church Gate Collection for the Care of the Aged in Glenties amounted to 1, 470 Euro and in Edeninfagh it amounted to 131 Euro. The Care of the Aged Committee wish to thank everyone who participated and contributed so generously.

Website Updates

Over the past few weeks there have been several updates to the website, Glenties.ie.

There is now a video section for any videos that feature Glenties. Anyone can add videos to this section by uploading their video to YouTube and then submitting the link.

There is a new photo album in the gallery with pictures of winter in Glenties with some nice shots of the last proper snowfall we had.

The events and entertainment within the town for the Christmas period have been added.

There are still more changes to come and like always I ask if anyone has anything to contribute to the website please send it to glenties@gmail.com.

Glenties Notes December 20th 2007

Julie Dawson and Mary Brown would like to extend their sincere gratitude to everyone who sponsored our recent parachute jump in aid of MS Donegal Branch. We would like to make a special thank you to all local businesses of Glenties and Ardara, family and friends who supported us and enabled us to raise 2,980 Euro.

This year the money collected in the collection box of the Crib will be donated to Maria Rafferty’s work in Ethiopia.

Congratulations to Bella Mc Gill, Main Street and Maggie Keeney, Drimnacrosh, Glenties, who both celebrated their 90th Birthdays recently and best wishes to them for many more healthy and happy years among us.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, friends and relatives of Aggie O’ Donnell, Ard Patrick, Glenties who died suddenly on Wednesday 12th December.

Christmas Confessions will be held in Glenties this evening Thursday 20th December at 8.00p.m. with a number of visiting Priests, and in Ardara, tomorrow Friday 21st December at 8.00p.m.

Mass on Christmas Eve Monday 24th December in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties and in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh is at 10.00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Day in Glenties is at 8.00a.m. and 11.00a.m. and in Edeninfagh at 9.30a.m.

Congratulations to Ann Marie and Jonathan Mc Cann, Ballydevitt, Donegal Town, on the birth last week in Letterkenny Hospital of their first child, a baby boy. Ann Marie is a daughter of Patrick and Mary Kennedy, Main St. Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Eileen Kennedy, Kilraine on the death of her sister, Sr. Aquinas, who was buried in Tullow, Co. Carlow last Friday; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bid Fletcher and family on the death of Bid’s sister, Kathleen Doherty, Buncrana, which took place last Friday 7th December 2007.

Naomh Chonaill Annual Presentation Dinner Dance will take place on Thursday 27th December in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. Tickets cost 35 Euro and will be on sale in The Clubhouse on Saturday 15th December between 8 p.m. – 9 p.m.

A Monster 25 Card Drive will be held in Leo’s Bar, Glenties on Sunday 16th December. Game starts at 4.30 p.m.

Glenties Notes 6th December 2007

At the meeting in the Community Centre, Glenties on Friday 30th November 2007 an announcement was made by Minister ‘Pat The Cope’ Gallagher, that approval has been granted for a New Primary Health Centre in Glenties on the site of the Girls Old National School. He envisaged a design team being appointed in January 2008 and the work being started later in that year. He also stated that money has been allocated for the project.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Annie Behan and family, Ard Patrick, Glenties on the death in the U.S.A. of Annie’s brother, Barney Mc Teague, which took place last week.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Paddy Hanlon and Annie Barrett, Maas, Glenties on the death of their brother, Bob Hanlon, which took place in Scotland last week.

A bus will leave Glenties at 8 p.m. on Friday 7th December for a night vigil in Knock for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Contact Mc Guinness’ at 9551284 for further information.

A Christmas School Concert and Local Talent Show will be held in the New Gym on 20th December 2007. Anyone wishing to participate contact John Francis O’Donnell.

The Annual Christmas Church Gate Collection for Saint Vincent de Paul will be taken up at all Masses next weekend – 8th & 9th December. 

A Table Quiz in aid of the Comprehensive School Pilgrimage to Medjugorje will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Friday 7th December at 8.00p.m. Tables of four and 40 Euro per table. Come along for a good night’s fun and support this worthy cause
