Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 24th December 2009

By on December 24, 2009 | Category: Narin & Portnoo Golf Club,News | No Comments

Just one event was played during the week, the regular Wednesday Open. Sean Connaughton was fired with enthusiasm prior to teeing off and by round’s end, he had a narrow margin of victory over his nearest rivals. Eighteen points out signalled a promising round to come and he returned in two under par nett for 34 points altogether.

Last week’s notes were littered with inaccuracies and I really must apologise for the drop in the already dodgy standard of reportage. Pat Reidy, and not Alan Kerrigan, brought Sam Maguire from Kerry, the proceeds of the Alzheimer’s Fundraiser far exceeded the two thousand mentioned and the times given for the two societies last Saturday were switched. I guess this is what happens when middle age strikes!

The club wishes all its members and friends a happy Christmas and joyous New Year.

Results:
December 16: Wednesday Open 1. Sean Connaughton (22) 34; 2. Francie Cunningham (12) 33 b.o.t.; 3. Michael Naughton (15) 33; Twos: 2 balls each

Fixtures:
December 26: Club Single Stableford
December 27: Christmas Cracker, single stableford, closed
December 30: Wednesday Open, ladies and gents, single stableford, 20 euro entry for G.U.I. visitors including green fee;

Glenties Community T.V.
Within the past for weeks the television reception of BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and Channel 4 has been very poor in the area of Glenties. As a result of this, there will be no Channel 4 until further notice and probably after the New Year. Further bulletins will be published by the Committee on the matter.

Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 15th December 2009

The Annual Christmas Party will take place in the clubhouse this Sunday night at 8p.m. The Christmas Hampers and Golfer of the Year prizes will also be presented.

The G.A.A. classic in aid of the Donegal Alzheimer Association was a resounding success and the weather proved conducive to low scoring. All the big names were present, Martin, Nudie, Anthony and of course, Sam. Kids’ eyes ogled the decorative trophy and many an adult looked longingly at the elusive prize. Alan Kerrigan had brought Sam to the northwest and he never let it out of his sight the whole time he was here! Connor Mallon’s team were the narrow winners of the golf event on 91 points and over two thousand euros was later raised for the worthy cause. Martin, Anthony and everyone else who lent a hand are to be congratulated on their efficiency and generosity. Let’s hope that it is an annual event.

Conal Gillespie added to the lengthening list of high-achievers coming out of Glen/Carrick at present with victory in last Wednesday’s Open. A front nine of 20 points laid a fine platform for success and a level twos performance on the way home consolidated the score. Sunday’s competition fell foul to the icy weather.

The Dolmen Society is staging its Christmas competition at Narin on December 19th, with those participating playing between 10 and 11 a.m. The Dunkineely Society tee off at 8.30a.m.

Results:
December 9: Wednesday Open
1. Conal Gillespie (16) 34 b.o.t.; 2. Kieran Gallagher (12) 34; 3. Vinny Gallagher (15) 33;

Fixtures:
December 20: Christmas Cracker, single stableford, closed
December 21: Weekly Open Seniors Stableford
December 23: Wednesday Open, ladies and gents, single stableford, 20 euro entry for G.U.I. visitors including green fee;
