Naomh Conaill Notes 25th January 2010

Well done to the U21s who had a good result in the Ulster Club Championship quarter final beating Foreglen from Derry 1-8 to 0-10 in Randalstown last Sunday with Eoin Wade named Man of the Match. The semi final is scheduled to be on 13/14th Feb. They are due to play Cloughaneely in the quarter finals of the Co Championship this Saturday. No venue or time had been fixed at the time of writing.

U16 circuit training will commence on Friday 29th Jan at 6.30pm in the clubhouse. Please bring indoor and outdoor gear. Any parent interested in helping out please come along. For more details contact Michael Gallagher (086 8174855) or James Griffin(087 2546592).

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Hugh Brendan Mc Dyer, Glenties and Paul Gallagher, Glenties. The numbers drawn were 2,17,23,27. The jackpot now stands at 4,700 Euro.

There will be a excuetive meeting in the clubhouse this Friday night at 9pm.

The AGM takes place this Sunday 31st Jan at 3pm in the clubhouse.

The Dinner Dance has being rescheduled for Saturday 6th Febuary in The Highlands Hotel.

Paddy Mc Geehan
The death took place suddenly at his home on Sunday 10th January 2010 of Paddy Mc Geehan, Derries, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. Readings and Prayers of the Faithful were by members of the extended family. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell and Sinead Finn. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Paddy is survived by his wife, Mamie, sons, John and Patsy, sister Mamie Mc Dyer, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two sisters, Kitty and Nan predeceased him.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the Sisters of Mercy and also the relatives of Sister Carmel who died in Ballyshannon on Thursday 14th January 2010 and was buried there on Saturday. Sr. Carmel spent a good number of years in Glenties and was a very popular member of the community.

Nationwide
Isobel Mc Loone, Mill Road, Glenties and Oliver Mc Devitt, Fintown will be appearing on Nationwide on Monday 1st February.

New Arrival
Congratulations to Andrena and Mark Bonner, Drimnasillagh, Glenties on the birth recently of their baby boy, (Oisin), a little brother for Jamie and Emma.

‘Kits for Kids Tokens’
Scoil Mhuire are presently collecting ‘Kits for Kids Tokens’ from the Irish Daily Mail newspaper and would be very grateful to anyone who buys the paper if they would send in the tokens to the school as they need 400 before the 5th February. For further information contact Mr. Mc Cann at 9551521.

A.G.M.
Naomh Conaill A.G.M. which was due to take place on 24th January has been cancelled, and will now take place on Sunday 31st January at 3.00 p.m.

Naomh Conaill Dinner Dance
The Annual Dinner Dance which was cancelled due to weather conditions will now take place on Saturday 6th February.

Thanks
The Church Gate Collection held recently in aid of the Town Christmas Lights amounted to € 664.00. The committee would like to thank everyone who donated so generously. They would also like to thank the Glenties Drama Group for their very generous donation of € 500 which was much appreciated.

Leonard Quinn would like to thank all the local businesses who kindly took Sponsorship Cards and also all the people who so generously donated money for his New Year’s Day Swim in Narin. A total of € 1, 700 was raised and this money is going to support Suicide Awareness Programmes at The Family Enrichment Centre, Stranorlar.

The U21s played their long awaited 1st round championship clash with Ardara at home last Sunday and had a emphatic victory winning 3-13 to 1-3. They now meet Cloughaneely in the next round. The U21s play Foreglen from Co Derry in the Ulster club championship this Sunday in Randalstown at 2pm.

The AGM which was due to be held this Sunday has being put back to Sunday 31st January.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Packie Mc Gill, Fintown and Breda Phildy Watters, Glenties. The numbers drawn were 2, 9, 16, 25. The jackpot now stands 4,600 Euro.

There has being no Bingo on a Tuesday night in the Community Centre for the past few weeks because of the bad weather but they hope to recommence next Tuesady night at 9pm with their Christmas Bingo and the club will also be giving out extra lotto prizes on the night.

The AGM takes place on Sunday 24th January at 3pm in the clubhouse.

The U21s are due to play Foreglen from Derry in the Ulster U21 Club Championship hosted by the Kickhams Creggan GAA Club in Antrim on the weekend of the 23/24 January.

Bridie Herron:
The death took place on Wednesday 6th January 2010, of Bridie Herron, Letterilly, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Shane Gallagher C.C Glenties, Fr. John Mc Loone P.P. Frosses and Fr. Aodhan Cannon C.C. Ardara concelebrated Requiem Mass. Readings and Prayers of the Faithful were by Bridie’s grandchildren. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by granddaughter Mary Mc Crossan (Doherty) and Margaret Flannery. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell, Sinead Finn and two grandsons Conal and Kevin Herron. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties. Bridie is survived by three sons, Patrick, Johnny and Michael, two daughters Kathleen Brennan and Evelyn Doherty, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Michael predeceased her in 1967. Her sister, Mamie Sweeney also predeceased her. Bridie was 96 years old and was in good health until recently.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to her husband, Hugh, and to all the relatives and friends of Eilish Boyle, formerly of Main Street, Glenties who died last week in Co. Kildare. She was buried in Rathangan on Saturday 9th January 2010. Eilish, a native of Derry, and her husband Hugh had a business and lived on Main Street for many years, where the Craft Shop is now, until they retired to Co. Kildare.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, family, relatives and friends of Paddy Mc Geehan, Derries who died suddenly on Sunday 10th January.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Ward and family, Meenavale, Glenties on the death of John’s sister, Winnie O’Gara, formerly of Meenavale, which took place recently in England; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Gerard Mc Dwyer, Derries on the death of his niece Caroline Byrne, which took place last week in Ottawa, Canada.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Conal, Mill Road, and Patsy Gallagher, Tullynaglaggin, Glenties on the death of their uncle, Brendan Gallagher formerly of Straoughter, which took place recently in England; also to all the relatives and friends.

Youth Choir
There will be a choir practise for the Youth Choir at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday 16th January (weather permitting).

Parish Council
There will be a meeting of Glenties Parish Council on Thursday 14th January in the Highlands Hotel at 9.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Thanks
Sincere thanks from Melissa and Stephanie to those who supported the Habitat for Humanity Cake Sale, which was held on the 19th December. A total of € 800 was raised. We would also like to thank those people who generously donated raffle prizes and anyone who helped in any way.

The AGM will be on Sunday 24th January in the clubhouse, nominations and motions forms are availble in Mc Glincheys and Fintown church and the date for the forms to be returned to the secretary has being extended to the 15th January.

The U8 and U10 function which was due to take place last Saturday was cancelled because of the bad weather. It will take place at a later date.

The following night classes will commence in St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties on Tuesday 19th January 2010 – Beginners Guitar (8 weeks), Creative Flower-Arranging (4 weeks), Use recycled Christmas Cards & products to make useful gifts (4 weeks), Patchwork (8 weeks), Creative Wax Painting (4 weeks), Conversational Irish (4 weeks), Conversational French (4 weeks), Beauty Therapy, Skin Care, Make-up, Manicures & Pedicures (4 weeks), Quick and Simple French Cookery (4 weeks), Making DVDs from your video clips and photos (4 weeks), Learn How to Use Your Digital Camera Intermediate Course (4 weeks), Step Aerobics (8 weeks), Pilates (8 weeks), Beginners Computers (8 weeks), Intermediate Computers (8 weeks), ECDL START Progression (Module 1) 8 Weeks and Payroll – Manual and Computerised (8 weeks). Enrolment will take place on Monday 11th January from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. All fees must be paid on enrolment night.
