Congratulations to Aoife Mc Donald and the Donegal Ladies on their fantastic victory against Waterford in the All Ireland Intermediate final last Sunday in Croke Park.

Congratulations to Eoghan Mc Gettigan who came first in the County Finals of the U-12 skills held in Convoy on Friday 24th September. Eoghan won the internal club competition several weeks ago and has been practising on the six skills involved since. Competing against kids on Friday from all the other clubs in the County, this is a great achievement by Eoghan and all at the Club congratulate him and his family.

Good luck to the senior team and management against Killybegs in the Co Final this Sunday in Ballybofey at 4pm. We would encourage as many of our supporters as possible to make the trip to the game as they always add so much colour and excitement to the games.

The 3rds drew with Mac Cumhaills 0-9 to 1-6 last Saturday in the semi final of the Junior B championship, no date has yet being fixed for the replay.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Maura Kilbane, Ardara and Mrs Mc Monagle, Fintown. The numbers drawn were 1,2,3,14. The jackpot now stands 3,600 Euro.

The 200 Club draw was held last Monday night and the 1st prize of 500 Euro went to Sean Connoughton and 5 prizes of 100 Euro went to Seamus O Malley, Daniel Mc Geehan, Elaine Campbell, Kathleen Griffin and Declan Bonner.

Our under 8’s travelled to Moy, Co. Tyrone last Saturday for a tournament which consisted of 11 clubs. After a slow start we improved with each game to reach the final of the shield, having defeated Enniskillen Gaels with a great display in the semi-finals. In the final we met a very strong Madden team from Armagh and were defeated but doesn’t take away from the huge efforts made all day by these young players. A big thank you to all who came and supported on the day and also to Mark and Rosaleen Mc Devitt who sponsored the meal for the players on the way home. Special thanks to The Moy club in Tyrone for a very well organised day. Thanks also to all the coaches and the ladies who helped us out all year. A more detailed report on the tournament will be posted on the club website.

There will be a Table Quiz this Friday night in Paddys Bar at 9.30pm

Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 30th September 2010

John Callaghan pipped Hugh Boyle in winning the Ulster Bank stableford at the weekend. The weather was fine on the day, though somewhat breezy. The twenty-handicapper held his game together on the front nine while many stumbled, and once he turned for home, the points were accumulated with ease. A par on ten yielded four points, as did a great birdie on thirteen. The final tally was forty points, a splendid effort and a worthy winning score.

Pat McGee of Killybegs won the Wednesday Open by four points, a tribute to his fine ball-striking. The damage was done on the front nine, a lovely par-par-birdie start just the tonic on a cool day. He added eighteen points to the twenty-four points he achieved on the way out for a total of forty-two.

Those intending to go on Seamus McDonagh’s Captain’s Outing to Ballyliffin on October 9th and 10th should pay their special rate of 110 euro per person sharing (non-golfers are welcome to come for just 80 euro) as soon as possible. Malachy Murrin of Killybegs was the worthy winner of the September medal competition, sponsored by the Ardara G.A.A. club. Another at fourteen, together with a fine collection of pars culminated in a six under par nett score of 67.

Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 14th September 2010

The revival of the old Am-Am team competition proved a great success with 37 teams enjoying the two day event. The weather stayed mild, which facilitated low scoring on the pristine links. The local team of Martin Sweeney, Tommy Barrett, Alan Elliott, Willie Molloy proved the champions by just two points from the captain’s team in second. The winners were consistency personified, returning scores of 110 on Saturday and 111 the following day. All four golfers were in good form and the dovetailing was a notable feature. The runners-up led after day one, with John Molloy’s eagle on the long 13th contributing handsomely to the eventual score of 114 points. The club thanks all those who sponsored prizes and teams and hopes that the competitors show their gratitude in the coming year by supporting them in turn.

Portsalon’s Barry Keeney enjoyed his trip back to Portnoo when winning the Wednesday Open last week. Local knowledge came to the fore for the Glenties native as he effortlessly constructed a fine round of 42 points to win by four from Sean McGinley.

Sunday’s event was sponsored by Coastal Windows and the two-ball of Mickey Campbell and Frankie Kennedy had a clear win over the best of the rest of the field. Their score of 64 was nine under par nett, a fantastic score and they were worthy winners.
