Naomh Conaill Notes 14th September 2010

By on September 14, 2010 | Category: Naomh Conaill,News | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments

The seniors and reserves had victories at home to St Eunans in the league last Sunday. The seniors won 2-8 to 0-12 and this victory guarantees they stay in Div 1 for next year and the reserves won 2-8 to 1-9. The seniors next game is the Co Final against Killybegs on Sunday 3rd October. The reserves are home to Ardara this Saturday in the league at 4.30pm. The 3rds are also at home this Saturday and they play Glenfin at 6pm.

The Club, in conjunction with the Glenties Harvest Fair Festival Committee staged a very successful and competitive tournament on Saturday 11th September. A feast of football was served up by the A and B players from Ardara, Dungloe, Killybegs and Naomh Conaill. The ‘A’ competition was an epic battle with three teams Dungloe, Killybegs and Naomh Conaill finishing all square on points at the finish. Instead of deciding the winner on scoring difference a draw was made that resulted in Killybegs defeating Dungloe in a play-off game. The stage was then set for a Killybegs V Naomh Conaill final and this was won convincingly by a well drilled Killybegs side. Well done Daffy!.

The ‘B’ tournament was won comfortably by the home side Naomh Conaill, winning all their games and ending a very successful year for this group of players.

Well done to all the children and their mentors and a big thank you as always to the ladies who once again looked after the catering and to our referee’s Ronan, Damien and Hughie.

The club now have a wide range of merchandise on sale in Mc Glincheys.

The new club website is now up and running and you can access the site it by logging on to naomhconaill.ie.

Anyone interested in going to the Ladies All Ireland Final in Croke Park can contact Shaun at 086 3427210

Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 8th September 2010

By on September 8, 2010 | Category: Narin & Portnoo Golf Club,News | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments

The Captain’s Outing to Ballyliffin is scheduled for October 9th and 10th. The cost is 110 euro per person sharing for two rounds of golf, bed and breakfast, an evening meal and prize-fund. Non-golfers are welcome to come for just 80 euro. Places are limited, so please contact the professionals as soon as possible.

Past captain, Michael Glynn hit the right notes last Monday in the Northern Bank Holiday stableford, finishing a shot ahead of Connor Taggart. This was the last hurrah of summer and Michael enjoyed every bit of it, racing through the back nine in 23 points. A trilogy of three-pointers got his back nine off to a great start and it was plain sailing from then on, with Michael eventually finishing on 41 points.

The Wednesday Open was an enjoyable affair, with unseasonably nice weather shocking all on the first day of September. John Gillespie of Cruit Island finished on top with 40 points, a fine performance on an away course. Neily Gildea and John McBride scrapped for the minor placings, with the Ardara man edging it by a shot over the Glenties stalwart. One wonders whether or not the upcoming local Rider Cup will see a similar outcome!

Results:
August 30: 1. Michael Glynn (20) 41; 2. Connor Taggart (17) 40; 3. Martin Regan (20) 38 b.o.t.; CSS 72; Twos: 6 balls
September 1: Wednesday Open 1. John Gillespie, Cruit 40; 2. Neily Gildea 39; 3. John McBride 38; CSS 73; Twos: 7 balls

Fixtures:
Sunday September 12: Coastal Windows, fourball betterball stroke, open.
Wednesday, September 15: Wednesday Open, ladies and gents, single stableford, 20 euro entry for G.U.I. visitors, including green fee;

Harvest Fair Traffic Plan

By on September 4, 2010 | Category: Glenties,News | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments

The following is a message from An Garda Siochana:

Sunday 12th Sept. ’10
The main street will be closed to traffic for the duration of the parade. This will be for approx. 1 hour from the start of the parade.

Alternative routes will be via Alter and Mullantyboyle.

Monday 13th of Sept. ’10
No traffic through the town from 8am until 9pm. A one-way system will be in operation during this time.

Traffic approaching town from Ardara direction will be diverted at Connaghans Hardware Store via Mullantyboyle.

Traffic approaching from Dungloe direction will be allowed into town as far as the Grotto and then diverted out Station Road.

Traffic from the Fintown direction will be diverted via Alter.

Traffic from the Glen Road will be directed out the Mill Road.

There will be No Parking allowed on the Alter and Mullantyboyle roads.

We would ask all locals to assist us by using this one way system the same as a large roundabout and NOT to attempt to go against the flow of traffic.

We would also ask all businesses to avoid having deliveries made on the 13th, as the plan is to keep HGV traffic to a minimum on the Fair day. Please advise all HGV users to avoid Glenties on the 13th of Sept.

While we appreciate that this is an inconvenience for locals, your cooperation with the flow of traffic will greatly assist us in keeping the main street free of traffic for the Fair day and thank you for your cooperation.

John Mc Groary, Sergeant.
