Thank all of you, family and friends who came to share in the celebration of the life of James Joseph Gallagher, Bethlehem, PA USA.. He passed Monday NOV. 22 at the age of 85 in his home surrounded by those who loved him. He was born in Ardun, Glenties County Donegal in a modest farmhouse on the side of a hill. He was the 7th of 8 children and is only survived by his youngest sibling Monica Kennedy who he loved dearly. He worked on the family farm till the age of 27 and at that point left Ireland to come the America. He joined his older brother Paddy who had settled in Brooklyn, NY several years before. He worked initially in the Hotel business but then eventually earned appropriate training to work as a fireman for the Board of Education in New York. He went on in 1959 to marry the love of his life, Bridget McGready, Inver, better known to him as Josephine. He adored her with unconditional love and would do everything in his power to assure her happiness. They went on the have three children including James, Brendan and Patrick. He afforded his sons the opportunity to succeed by assuring them a formal education. This was of tremendous importance to him as he himself had not had that privilege. He went on to have a successful career and retired reluctantly in 1993 when his physical prowess had started to diminish. He thereafter devoted his life to his wife, his church and to spending time with his sons and his 4 grandchildren James, Katherine, Kevin and Quinn. At the later stages of his life when his body started to break down, he maintained his dignity and his wonderful sense of humor . He had had a Coronary bypass operation in 1995 and when he went to the surgeon for a followup visit the surgeon went on to inform him that he was well and could now resume normal acivity including driving a car. My father said nothing to the doctor but went on to inform us about the visit and the miracle of modern medicine and this amazing operation which had now afforded him the ability to drive given that he had never driven in his life. He was a generous and decent man who so may people referred to has a "nice guy". His family will miss him but we have no doubt that he is in heaven playing cards with his family and friends and catching up on the latest news. RIP. Jim Gallagher Bethlehem, PA USA.
