Sweeneys of Glenties | Genealogy | Forum
I am along witha number of other Sweeney descendants seeking information on a number of ancestors.
Firstly I am seeking information on Michael Sweeney who married Annie Gallagher probably sometime in the 1820’s. Annie was a daughter or Charles(1799-1878) and Mary Gallagher. Michael and Annie Sweeney had four children(as far as we know) . They were Annie, who married Francis Hill, from co Cork,(my grandfather); Daniel, who married (1)Sarah mc Breherty (d.1907)and (2)Marian McAney(1884-1966), Hannah, who married Patrick McHugh, Mary , who married Charles Melly and (?)Sarah . I am particularly interested in any information on Michael Sweeneys parents and /or siblings.
Secondly,a cousin in Canada, understands that a lady called Virginia Coyle (nee Sweeney ) is somehow related. She was mentioned on the Glenties.ie website following her death in 2000/01, and the implication was that there were relatives in the Glenties area at that time. Any information on this lady and how whe links in would be appretiated.
Thirdly I am looking for information on my great great grandmother ,Jane Sweeney(sometimes referred to as Janet McSwiney)who seems to have been from Killybegs. She married John Patrick Hill from Cork in May 1832 in Killybegs. An ancester(now dead) makes reference to her in a letter. She talks about a ballad which includes the words ” Sweeney from the North, Donovan from the south”. Jane was supposedly a sister of the Sweeney referred to in the song…. I am really eager to find out any information on jane and indeed we wonder if Michael Sweeney was in fact a descendant of Janes.
any informtion will be very much appreciated.
many tahnks in anticipation.
