Glenties Notes 11th July 2013

The Late Maggie Bonner:
The death took place on Sunday 30th June 2013 in Brindley Manor Nursing Home, Convoy, of Maggie Bonner, Dry Arch, Straboy, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by the Laughlin Sisters. Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Maggie is survived by two daughters, Mary and Nan, two sons Nellie and John, grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece Mary Kate Byrne, all other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Charlie died 13 years ago and her daughter Peggy two years ago. Three brothers, James, Colm and Paddy and two sisters, Kate and Annie also predeceased her. Maggie was 104 years of age on the 9th June; she was in good health, had great memory and was able to read without glasses.

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Packie Boyle, and family, Derries, Glenties, on the death in England of Packie’s brother, John, which took place recently; also to his niece Marguerite Mc Loone, Main Street, Glenties and to all his relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Michael Glynn, Stranaglough, Glenties on the death recently in London of his aunt Kathleen O’Keefe, (nee Devenney) formerly of Loughcrillan, Glenties; also to all other relatives and friends.

“Biddy Devine” Fundraising Weekend:
The“ Biddy Devine” Fundraising Weekend in aid of the Kidney Dialysis Unit Letterkenny Hospital will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12th,13th,14th July in The Glen of Glenties; Friday 12th – Table Quiz in the Glen Tavern 9 p.m. ; Saturday13th – 10 k Fun Run / Walk – Depart Glen Tavern 12 noon ;Registration from10.30 a.m. Sponsor Cards Available. Open Day:
An Open Day will take place at Church of Ireland, Glenties on Tuesday 30th July from 11 a.m. onwards with local Arts & Crafts and More. Tea / Coffee & Refreshments Served. Glenties Playgroup Summer Camps:
Glenties Community Playgroup Summer Camps – July 15th – 19th July 2013, are open to all children in Glenties and the surrounding area including children visiting the area. Time 10.30 – 2.00 p.m. 3 – 8 years – Disney Week, Prop Making, Mask Making, Drama, Sing A long, Cooking and Dress up Disney Disco; 6 – 12 Years – Taste of Summer Cooking with Breezie. Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo in the Glenties Community Centre every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Every Line € 50; every house € 100; Jackpot if not won will be € 7300 on 16/07/2013. If not won on the night € 300 will be paid out. Inhouse draws.

Faith Healer Michael Curran will be in the Glenties Community Centre every Monday night from 7-10 p.m.

Sheep Dog Trials:
Sheepdog Trials will take place on the Church Road Glenties (beside GAA pitch) on Saturday 17th August at 4 p.m & Sunday 18th August at 9 a.m.
