Glenties Notes 12th May 2011

A Big Thank You
Fionnuala and Irene Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties, have returned home from their week (2nd- 9th April) participating in ‘Haiti’s ‘Build It Week 2011’. They were supposed to go in October 2010 but because of the Malaria outbreak that trip was postponed. After seeing the destruction caused by the horrific earthquake of January 12th 2010, the two girls decided to volunteer with The Haven Partnership Group. This Haven Group, founded by Leslie Buckley, Cork, travel twice yearly to build houses for the poorest families of Haiti. The girls, with your help, raised €12,000 and joined the group of 370 volunteers, from all over Ireland. The group completed the building and painting of 80 houses, a community centre, a water shop, a playground and a football pitch for the people of Gonaives, in Haiti.
Irene and Fionnuala would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to those who supported their quiz nights, bag-packing days, comedy night, sponsorship cards, the climbers of Croagh Patrick and Mt. Errigal and those who gave donations. Your money has been well spent, as some of the poorest families in Haiti will receive a home with clean running water, a real luxury in Haiti! If you wish to see photos or read more about April’s ‘Build It Week’ or Haven’s work in Haiti, check the Haven Partnership website at www.havenpartnership.com
