Glenties Notes 13th July 2011

The Late Harry Gillespie
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 3rd July 2011 of Harry Gillespie, Mill Road, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Des Sweeney concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Harry is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughters, Eithne, Fiona, Sharon and Loraine, son Henry, grandchildren, brother, Eamonn, son-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two brothers, John and Benny predeceased him. Originally from Glencolmcille, Harry came to Glenties about 40 years ago and opened a Garage on Mill Road.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo on Tuesday 5th July in the Community Centre, Glenties were – Claire Keeney won the Jackpot of € 400. Marian Ward won € 150. Christopher O’ Donnell, Paula Hegarty, Bridie Boyle, Kathleen Mc Glynn, Rosaleen Melly, Cathy Connell, Brenda Reid and Bridie Doherty won € 100 each. Brown Kid won € 60. Kealin Mc Monagle, Fiona Gallagher, Hugh Gallagher, Alana Keeney, Christine Mc Cool, Tom Lavery, Rosbeg, Denise Campbell, Winnie Long, Carol Sweeney, Marie Cunningham and Kitty Mc Glynn won € 50 each. Nancy Shovlin and Josie Gallagher won € 25 each.

Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection
The total amount raised at the recent Church Gate Collection in aid of Donegal Hospice was € 1,404.60. The amount collected in Edeninfagh was € 126.97 and the amount collected in Glenties was € 1, 277.63. Thank you to everyone involved.

Comprehensive School Reunion
A reunion will take place on 30th July for years 1969 – 1972 – starting with a Wine Reception in the School at 7 p.m. followed by a Buffet and Dance in the Highlands Hotel at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and it is very important that anyone interested in going from the Glenties / Fintown / Lettermacaward areas get in contact with any of the following – Bernie Keeney – 086 1640833, Mary Ita Boyle – 087 9038263 or Pauline Mc Gill – 087 3292428 as soon as possible.

Tidy Town Church Gate Collection
The Church Gate Collection in aid of the Tidy Town will be taken up next weekend. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Time Change – Graveyard Mass
The Annual Graveyard Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard at 2.00 p.m. next Sunday 17th July. It would be greatly appreciated if you could let your friends, relatives and former neighbours, who are travelling from outside the area, know that the time of the Mass has been brought forward to 2 p.m.

Biddy Devine Memorial Walk
The Annual Biddy Devine Memorial Walk in aid of The Kidney Dialysis Unit, Letterkenny Hospital takes place on Saturday 23rd July – departing from the Glen Tavern at 12 noon 20 km Walk. For more details contact Frankie – 9557978 or Mary – 9551170.
