Glenties Notes 18th December 2013

Wedding Bells:
Congratulations and Best Wishes to Karen Mc Devitt, Tullyard, Glenties and Joe Blee, Derry who were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 30th November 2013.

The Late Eithne Ward:
The death took place at her home, on Wednesday 4th December 2013, of Eithne Ward, Mullantyboyle, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by a friend of the family. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Eithne is survived by her husband, Liam, sons, John and his wife, England, Derek and his wife Marita, Mullantyboyle, siblings, Eamonn, Sean, Patsy, Noreen and Marion, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Harry and Brenda Reid, Tullyard Road, Glenties on the deaths recently of a niece and nephew. Brenda’s nephew, Eoin Fennessy, and Harry’s niece, Tracy Deane were buried last week.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the husband, relatives, friends and colleagues of Aileen Buckley (nee Dowling) who died last week in Letterkenny Hospital. Miss Dowling was a very popular teacher in St. Columba’s Comprehensive School for a number of years. She was buried in Fermoy, Co. Cork on Monday 9th December 2013.

Bingo:
Bingo Winners on Tuesday 10th December in The Community Centre, Glenties were – €25 Winners – Mary Furey and Bridie Doherty; €50 Winners – Rose Boyle, Patrick Sweeney, Kathleen McCabe, Marion Ward, Bernadette Gallagher, Marion Byrne, Sarah Gallagher, Emer Doherty, Amanda McDyre and Nancy Gill; .€60 Winner – Theresa McKelvey; €100 Winners – James Deane, Conor O’Donnell, Bridie Boyle, Theresa Molloy, Maura Hegarty, Emer Doherty, Margaret Gallagher, Fiona Boyle, Mary Ellen Bonner, Bernadette McDyre; .€150 Winners Mrs. Doherty and Patricia Gallagher.

Christmas Confessions:
Christmas Confessions in Glenties are on, this evening, Thursday 19th December at 8 p.m. and in Ardara at 8 p.m. tomorrow Friday 20th December at 8 p.m.

Christmas Masses:
On Christmas Eve Mass is at 9 p.m. in St Connell’s Church, Glenties and 7 p.m. in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh. On Christmas Day Masses are at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. in Glenties and 12 mid-day in Edeninfagh.

Church Gate Collection:
Saint Vincent de Paul Christmas Church Gate Collection taken up recently in Edeninfagh amounted to € 95. Thank you to everyone who made a donation.

Parish Carol Service:
As a Preparation for Christmas, an Ecumenical Carol Service in which we will be joined by the Rev. John Deane, and his Church of Ireland Congregation, will beheld in St.Connell’s Church, Glenties, on Sunday 22nd December at 7.00 p.m. Everyone is Most Welcome.

Care of the Aged Collection:
The Glenties Community Care of the Aged Committee will hold their Annual Christmas Church Gate Collection at all Masses next weekend ~ Saturday – 21st and Sunday – 22nd December. (Please note the change in date). The proceeds of this collection will go to the running cost of our Day Centre.

Glenties St.Vincent de Paul Collection:
The Glenties St.Vincent de Paul Conference Church Gate Collection amounted to a total of €1,540 (including € 95 in Edeninfagh.) “The Conference wishes to Thank Everyone that contributed and also those that gave a donation throughout the year.”

Ionad Pobail agus Sport – The Gym at Scoil Mhuire:
The Church Gate Collection taken up recently amounted to € 680 The Committee would like to thank everyone, who made a donation and a special thanks to all those who helped with the collection.

Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo in the Glenties Community Centre on Christmas Day instead of Christmas Eve at 7pm. Every line is €50, every house is €100. Jackpot if not won will be €9500 on Christmas Day, if not won on the night €300 will be paid out. Spot prizes will be given out on the night. In house draws. Bingo will be on New Years Eve at 7pm also, with more spot prizes given out.

Snooker room is open from 4pm – 10pm every evening.
