Glenties Notes 1st June 2011

The Late Sarah Quinn
The death took place at her home on Tuesday May 17th of Sarah Quinn, Mully, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to The Church of The Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Thursday. Frs. Denis Quinn, Shane Gallagher, Pádraig O’ Bhaoill and Francis Mc Loone concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the local graveyard. Sarah is survived by two sons, John and Hughie, three daughters, Bridgeen, Marion and Bernadette, sisters, Mamie, Maggie, Susan, Gracie, Rosie, Eileen and Kitty, brothers, John and Paddy, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Cormac died in September 2003. Two sisters, Bridget and Annie and two brothers, Pete and Barney also predeceased her.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Naomh Conaill U/16 team who beat Naomh Colmcille in the Division 2 League Final in Letterkenny last week.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 24th May were – Isobel Mc Loone and Charles Mc Carron won € 200 each. Threasa Molloy, Brigid Mc Cabe, Frosses, Patsy Martin, Bridie Doherty, Paula Hegarty, Letty Doherty, Rosaleen Melly, Johnny O’ Donnell and Bríd Molloy won € 100 each. Michael Sweeney, Ardara won € 60. Shaun Moloney, Ann Mc Hugh, Nancy Laurie, Anne Timoney, Vera Breslin, Denise Campbell, Sinead Byrne, Breege Gallagher, Rosbeg, Brown Kid, Mary Mc Geehan, Sally Mc Hugh, Bríd Molloy and Patricia Molloy won € 50 each.

Cake Sale
There will be a Cake Sale in the Community Centre, Glenties on Saturday evening after Mass in aid of Glenties Theatre Workshop.

X – Factor
The total amount collected in this year’s X- Factor night which was held in Paddy’s Bar, Glenties was € 3,611.02. The local Mountain Rescue Service and the Playschool each received € 600 and The Donegal Hospice received € 2,411.02. A special word of thanks to everyone who helped in any way in making the night such a great success.

Glenties Theatre Workshop
Anyone interested in taking part or helping in our next production please contact 087 9704647 or check out our Face book page (Glenties Theatre Workshop) and post on it. Our next production will be Footloose and we will begin auditions in the coming weeks.

Graveyard Mass
Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard, Glenties on Sunday 17th July at 3.00 p.m. and in Edeninfagh Graveyard on Sunday 7th August at 3.00 p.m.

Collection
The Irish Cancer Society Church Gate Collection will take place next weekend 4th & 5th June.

Weight Watchers
Shape up for Summer by joining Weight Watchers for men and women every Thursday evening in the Community Centre, Glenties from 6 00 p.m. Tel. 087 6486047.

Fintown Festival
The Fintown Festival kicks off on Friday evening 3rd June with a football match in Páirc Acla at 7.30 p.m. between Highland Radio and Fintown Harps, in aid of Ionad Lae Cholmcille. The Official Opening is at 9.00 p.m. by Donegal Ladies All-Star, Yvonne Mc Monagle at the Railway Inn. On Saturday – Leisure Cycle at 1 p.m. – Barbecue at Teach Jimmy with Traditional Music at 8 p.m. and Oiche Airneail at 9 p.m. with Fergus Mc Gee and friends. Family Fun Day on Sunday at Fintown Industrial Estate with Marching Bands, Irish Dancing, Craft Display; also Fun Bus for children and face painting etc. and Vintage Tractor Run. Open Air Market with all stalls welcome. At 4 p.m. there is an Open air music session at Arás Shein Bhain with traditional musicians and singers. On Monday there will be Sports in Páirc Acla at 2 p.m. and at 10 p.m. the Lord Mayor Crowning Dance will take place in Noble Bar.

Feast of St. Anthony
Mass will be celebrated in Rossnowlagh on Tuesday 14th June. Blessing of the Lilies will take place. A bus will leave Mc Guinness’ Café at 6.00 p.m. Newcomers are welcome.
