Glenties Notes 21st October 2010

Cash for Clobber
Scoil Mhuire N.S. Glenties is having a ‘Cash for Clobber’ collection on Thursday 21st October.  Filled bags (bin liner size) can be brought to the school until school closes on the day.  This is a good way to get rid of unwanted clothing, paired shoes, curtains, linens, old handbags and belts and is in keeping with the ‘Green Schools Initiative’.  The school will receive € 4 for each well filled bag, which will go towards school funds.  Your contributions are greatly appreciated.  For further information please contact the school at 074 9551521.

New Arrival
Congratulations to Bernie and Ronan Molloy, Mill Road, Glenties on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother (Jack) for Hannah and Adam

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in The Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 12th October were – Rosaleen Melly won the Jackpot of € 400.  Brid Gallagher, Nan Doherty, Sally Mc Hugh, Paula Hegarty, Nancy Shovlin, Paddy Joe Gallagher, Rose Browne, Agnes Mc Mahon, Ann Kennedy and Mary Gallagher won € 100 each.  Bella Boyle, Ann Byrne, Hugh Gallagher, Elizabeth Buckley, Mary Furey, Josie Gallagher, Isobel Mc Loone, Carmel Doherty and John Molloy, Fintown won € 50 each.  Lettie Doherty, Margaret Murray, Helen Mc Dyre and Rosemary Whelan won € 25 each.

Thanks
Leo and Annette Mc Loone, all their family and bar staff at Leo’s Bar, Glenties would like to thank everyone for their support with the BBQ, which was held on August 1st.   € 2,000 was raised for the C.C.U. in Letterkenny Hospital.  Thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make it a success.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to John Melly and family, Glenties on the death last week of John’s sister, Sadie Mc Monagle, Boyoughter, Lettermacaward; also to all the relatives and friends.  Sadie and her husband Michael lived in Glenties for a number of years, where Roddy’s Bar is now.

Christmas Lights Halloween Ball
The Annual Halloween Ball in aid of the Christmas Lights will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Sunday 24th October.  Music is by Guilty of Rhythm.  Doors will open at 10 p.m.  Face Painting in the Hotel from 7 p.m.  There will be cash prizes for the best individual and group costumes.

Carnival Parade
The Carnival Parade will start from the Community Centre at 9 p.m.

Children’s Fancy Dress Parade & Family Fun Evening
On Saturday 23rd October there will be a family fun evening, with a Fancy Dress parade for the children from the Community Centre and afterwards to the Hotel ballroom for some Halloween treats.  There will be Face Painting in the hotel before the parade.

Sympathy

Swimming Lessons in Ballyshannon
West Coast Cormorants are running an eight week session in Ballyshannon Leisure Centre, starting on Tuesday 2nd November.  This session offers swimming lessons for beginners, improvers and higher levels.  This is a valuable opportunity for children to work for an Irish Water Safety Swim Award.  Application forms will be available in the usual outlets in Glenties and Ardara and should be returned by Wednesday 20th October, no later than Friday 22nd October.  Costs will be kept to a minimum this year, at € 85 per child, including travel, pool and certificate.  Parents please note: this is a voluntary, community-run club and we need each of you to supervise the bus on one occasion during the term.  For further details, please contact 086 0782699.

Collection
Self Help Africa Church Gate Collection will be taken up before the Masses next weekend.

Parenting Course
A Positive Parenting Course will be held in St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh, beginning on Wednesday 20th October.  The course will be run over a six week period, every Wednesday for two hours (excluding Wednesday 27th October- Mid Term Break) between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.  There will be a break for tea / coffee during each two hour session.  This course, which is delivered by the H.S. E. is open to all parents of Primary School Children and is free of charge.  Subjects covered are Communication, Self-Esteem, Resilience and Behavioural Issues.  Please contact the school at 9551591.

Friends of Letterkenny Hospital
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the collection on the Harvest Fair Day in Glenties.  The amount raised was € 643.72c.

Novena of Masses for the Dead
Every Mass from Tuesday 2nd November until Wednesday 10th November in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties and The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh will be a Mass for the Dead.  Special envelopes will be available at the door of the Church next weekend.

Coffee Morning
Edeninfagh N.S. will hold a Coffee Morning in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital tomorrow, Friday 22nd October, beginning at 10.30 a.m.  Donations will be accepted at the school on the day.  Everyone is welcome.

Fintown parish Bazaar
The Annual Bazaar will take place in Ballinamore School next Sunday 24th October at 2.30 p.m.  There will be some great prizes.  Your support would be much appreciated.
