Glenties Notes 24th January 2014

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Peggy Boyle, (native of Kerry), widow of the late John Boyle, Meenalig, Glenties, who died on Sunday 12th January 2014 Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Connell’s Church Glenties and burial took place in Kilraine Graveyard.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Kennedy Family, Kilraine, Glenties on the death in England of Kevin Kennedy, brother of the late Frankie Kennedy, Kilraine; also to all other relatives and friends.

Medjugorje:
On Monday 27th January the parish of Glenties will host a visit from Marian Pilgrimages. The team from Medjugorje, David Parkes, and the Croatian guides plus Tom Field from the Dublin Office, will be present for Mass in St Connell’s Church at 7.30 p.m.; after which there will be a talk and after that a cup of tea in the Community Centre. This is open to everyone, past, present, and future pilgrims to Medjugorje, priests, religious, and lay people. A warm welcome awaits you. This Mass will take the place of the scheduled Peace Mass in St. Mary’s, Ramelton, on Thursday 30th January.

St. Brigid’s Night:
The Annual “St Brigid’s Cross Making and Céilí Night” will take place in the Community Centre, Glenties, on Friday 31st January at 8 p.m. Admission; € 3 each or €10 per family. Raffle and spot prizes on the night, with all proceeds going to the local Youth Club. Refreshments will be served. Come along for a great night’s “craic” and learn how to make your own St. Brigid’s Cross.

Feast of Saint Brigid:
Saturday 1st February. Blessing of St. Brigid’s Crosses will take place at both Masses on Saturday 1st February

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord – Candlemas: Sunday 2nd February
Blessing of Candles will take place at the Saturday evening Mass and both Masses on Sunday. Candles will be on sale at the door of the Church, packets of six – € 5.00.

Feast of St. Blaise Patron Saint of Sore Throats and Sick Cattle:
Monday 3rd February – Blessing of Throats will take place on Monday 3rd at 7.30 p.m. Mass

Edeninfagh: Feast of Saint Brigid:
Saturday 1st February. Blessing of St. Bridget’s Crosses will take place at 12 Mid-day Mass.

Collection:
Glenties Care of The Aged would like to thank you for your generous support of their Christmas Church Gate Collection which amounted to € 1, 307.50.

Thanking you.
The Parish Social before Christmas was a great success and they would like to thank everyone who helped in any way, especially their Sponsors and those who gave spot prizes for their Raffle.

Collection:
The Annual Church Gate Collection in aid of the Raphoe Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place before all Masses next weekend Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th January. The money raised is used to help take the sick of the Diocese to Lourdes on the Pilgrimage.

Glenties Community Playgroup Annual Hamper Draw:
The Playgroup would like to thank everyone who donated to the Hamper and those who sold tickets. Thank you for supporting the Draw. Congratulations to the six prize winners.
