Glenties Notes 25th April 2012

First Holy Communion
Children from St. Riaghan’s, Drimnacrosh, Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday next 28th April at 11 a.m. Mass in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 17th April were – Brown Kid won the Jackpot of €400; John Mc Loone, Ann Marie Gillen, Dooey, Jean Boyle, Anna Mc Dyre, Nellie Maguire, James Byrne, Maas, Sally Mc Hugh, Michael Doherty, Paddy Doherty and Michael Mc Brearty won € 100 each; Robert Freeborn won € 60; Teresa Mc Kelvey, Anne Furey, Cathy Connell, Mary Kennedy, Patricia O’ Connell, Anthony Burke, Mary Doherty, John Boyle, Ryan Hunter, Elizabeth Buckley and Margaret Murray won € 50 each.

Snowball
From Tuesday 24th April the Glenties Community Centre are starting a ‘Snowball’ on the Jackpot at their weekly Bingo. The Snowball will start at €1000 on 45 numbers. If not won, € 300 will be paid on the house. The Snowball will increase by €100 every week until it is won. Every line is €50; every house except snowball is €100. Congratulations
Congratulations to 18-year-old singer / songwriter Riaghan O’Callaghan, who won top prize in the Opportunity Knocks Competition in Donegal Town recently. She also won the Borders Got Talent competition last year. Riaghan is a daughter of Tony and Angela O’Callaghan, Kilraine, Glenties.

Congratulations also to the ‘Man in Black’ gang from Glenties and Ardara who came second in the Opportunity Knocks Competition.

Collection
The Donegal Down Syndrome Church Gate Collection will take place next weekend.

Thanks
Naomh Conaill Ladies would like to thank everyone who contributed to their recent Church Gate Collection. A total of € 905 was raised. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Glenties Community T.V.
The Committee would like to thank all those who paid € 10 at the Craft Shop, and to remind others that they can still pay by this method. If they do not wish to pay by this method, the committee will be out collecting within the next few weeks.

Annual Biddy Devine Memorial Walk
The Annual Walk in aid of The Kidney Dialysis Unit, Letterkenny Hospital will take place on Saturday 21st July. For further information contact Frankie on 087-9186261 or Mary on 9551170.

Mass in Rossnowlagh
A bus will leave Mc Guinness’ Café at 6.00 p.m. on Tuesday 1st May and every first Tuesday for Mass in Rossnowlagh. The organisers wish to make an appeal for more people to join them.

Naomh Conaill Girls
Congratulations to our U – 14 Girls team who beat Termon and St. Eunan’s in Termon on Sunday last, to win the Feile County Final. They are now through to the All Ireland Final in Laois later on. This is the second year in succession that the Naomh Conaill Girls are representing Donegal in the All Ireland Final. Well done Girls!

Ladies County Minors
Best wishes to the Ladies County Minor team who are in the Ulster Final on the 19th May, with Glenties girl Alanah Mc Donnell on the Panel.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Mary B., (formerly Gildea, The Rock, Glenties), extended family, relatives and friends of Roy Sabine, Meenahalla, who died in Killybegs Hospital on Sunday last.

Glenties 1st Annual Busking Festival Weekend
A Busking Festival will take place in Glenties on Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June; € 3,500 in Prize money; Open to all buskers. Contact Anne on 087-6944228 for more information and registration.

Public Meeting
There will be a Public meeting on Friday 4th May in the Community Centre starting at 8 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is, to get the views of the Community on changing the date of the Harvest Fair Day from the 12th September to the 2nd Saturday in September, thus having the fair on a weekend every year, enabling people who are away from home to come home for the fair.

Tourist Office
Glenties Museum and Heritage Centre intend to open a local Tourist Office in the Museum when it re-opens for the season on 14th May 2012. All local tourist providers e.g. B & Bs, Hotels, Self Catering, Sports and Recreational providers are asked to leave supplies of their brochures either at the Museum, which is presently open on Wednesdays only or with Aidan Campbell.
