Glenties Notes 31st May 2012

Congratulations:
Congratulations to the five students from the Comprehensive School, who have been selected to participate in a 4 day Adventure challenge in the Wicklow Mountains at the end of May. This event is being organised by the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment of The Irish Defence Forces. All of the students have completed their Presidents Award in the school under the direction of teacher, Gerry Moore. The students chosen are Claire Maguire, Laura Boyd, Aoife Harkin, Charles Mc Hugh and Ryan Connaughton and they will be among a group of 30 students from all over Ireland. Good luck to them all.

Fundraising Thanks:
Thanks to all the people in the area who contributed to the recent collection organised by the Transition year students in the Comprehensive School. A total of € 262 was raised for the Irish Heart Foundation.

Relay For Life:
Well done to all the Transition Year Students in the Comprehensive School, Glenties who recently organised a very successful Talent Show in the School to raise money for cancer research. Thanks especially to teachers, Mary Mc Laughlin and Mary Martin who did a huge amount of work in organising this. Thanks to all the talented people who performed. Over € 750 was raised on the night. The T Y Students were involved in the 24 hour Relay For Life at LYIT to raise money, and in memory of their dear friend Martina, who died in January. All of the students have raised € 2000 for this event.

Fintown Festival:
On Saturday 2nd June a 5 k Run / Walk will take place in conjunction with Finn Valley A.C. Please note this Run is a part of their Grand Prix series. Registration is at 1 p.m. at Gairm Scoil Cú Uladh, Ballinamore. Race will start at 3 p.m. On Sunday 3rd June there is a Vintage Tractor Run with Mid West Vintage Club starting at 3 p.m. All Vintage Tractors are welcome. This event is in aid of Donegal Hospice.

Wedding Bells:
Congratulations to Fidelma Gallagher, Derries, and Gerard Toland, Tullyhoniver, Glenties, who were married in Glenties on Friday 25th May 2012.

Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo in the Community Centre every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Snooker every evening from 6 p.m. except Tuesday.

Bingo:
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 22nd May were – Anne Kennedy won € 300. Bridie Gallagher, Anne Dorrian, Mrs. Gallagher, Sally Mc Guigan, Annie Boyle, Jane Rodgers, Bernadette Mc Devitt, Hugh Gallagher and Kitty Ward won € 100 each; Fidelma Burke, Bruckless won € 60; Denise Maguire, Frosses, Teresa Mc Kelvey, Fintown, Anne Kennedy, Julie Langan, Jeanne Fortune, Marion Davison, Margaret Reilly, Briege Brennan, Ann Byrne and Hugh Gallagher won € 50 each; Shaun Maloney and Martin Taggart won €25 each; Kathleen Boyle, Paddy Moore and Bridie Boyle won € 20 each.

Community Employment Scheme:
General workers are wanted for Glenties Tidy Towns Community Employment Scheme. This scheme will start in Mid June. FÁS criteria apply. Contact 086 1209524.

Medjugorje Peace Mass:
The Medugorje Peace Mass will be celebrated on Thursday evening 31st May at 7.30 p.m.

Graveyard Masses:
Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard, Glenties on Sunday 8th July at 3 p.m. Mass will be celebrated in Edeninfagh Graveyard on Sunday 5th August at 3 p.m.

Collection:
The Irish Cancer Society Church Gate Collection will take place next weekend 2nd and 3rd June.

Corpus Christi Procession:
The annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place after 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday 10th June. The people who are usually involved in the carrying of the canopy are asked to make themselves available, as well as those who usually steward the procession. The First Holy Communion Children are invited to walk in the Procession in their First Holy Communion Dress.

“Do This In Memory”:
The Parish based First Holy Communion Programme called “Do This In Memory” will conclude at 11 a.m. Mass on the Feast of Corpus Christi.
