Glenties Notes 3rd March 2011

The Late James Boyle
The death took place in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny, on Thursday 17th February 2011 of James Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home on Friday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Shane Gallagher C.C. Glenties. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. James is survived by his wife, Gracie, daughters, Rosemary, Caroline, Grainne and Emma, sons, James, Charlie and Marty, brother, Charlie, sisters, Lena, Mary and Bernadette, aunts, Bridget Mc Groarty, Birmingham and Teresa Breslin, Ardara, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to all the relatives and friends of Packie Craig, Lucan, Dublin, (formerly of Buncrubog, Glenties); to his wife, Mary (formerly Ward, Mill Road, Glenties) and family; to his brothers, Terence, Station Road, and Joe, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties, sisters, Julia Molloy, Buncrubog and Mary Doherty, Stranaglough, Glenties. Sincere sympathy is extended to Martin Regan and family, Mill Road, Glenties, on the death of Martin’s mother, Una Regan, Co. Mayo, which took place last week.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Sean Boyle and family, Ard Patrick, Glenties on the death of Sean’s brother, Joseph Boyle, Kilcar, which took place in Killybegs Hospital last weekend.

Glenties Golf Society
At a well attended meeting in the Highlands Hotel, the following were elected to run the Glenties Golf Society for 2011 – Captain- Patrick Gallagher; Vice-Captain- Columba Gavigan; Secretary – Pat Connaghan; Treasurer – Harold Reid; Competitions and Handicaps – John Molloy and PRO – Sean Connaughton. A fixture list will be available shortly with the first outing in Narin Portnoo on Saturday 26th March. A weekend outing in early summer is also being planned. All golfers from the Glenties area are asked to join and it is also the hope that the lady membership will increase.

Naomh Conaill Ladies Registration for 2011
Registration will take place this Friday Night 4th March in the Club House from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. All those intending to play or be involved with any team need to be registered. A parent or guardian needs to attend for underage players. New members are welcome. Fee is € 51.00, for adult players € 36 for U 18 players and € 21 for U 10 players. For Non players the fee is € 26 (this applies to all managers, mentors, coaches, refs. or any one helping on the sideline).

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 22nd February were – Mary Meehan won the Jackpot of € 400. Mary Farrell, Paddy Mc Gill, Mickey Doherty, Kilcar, Owen Ward, Breege Gallagher, B. Fletcher, Anne Kennedy, Mrs. Monaghan and Hazel Staunton won € 100 each. Ann Whyte, Margaret Murray, Hugo O’Donnell, Gracie O’ Hara, Josie Martin, Ann Mc Hugh, John Boyle, Nora Gallagher, Angela Martin and Hazel Staunton won € 50 each. Kathleen Griffin, May Kennedy, Brenda Reid and Anne Bonner won € 25 each.

Beginner Adult Guitar Class
Guitar Classes for adult beginners have commenced in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Wednesday 2nd March at 9.00 p.m. Contact Denise on 087-7687694.
