Glenties Notes 7th November 2012

The Late Michael Mc Guigan:
The death took place in Rotterdam, Holland on Saturday 27th October of Michael Mc Guigan, formerly of Ardconnell, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home in Kilraine on Thursday 1st November and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday afternoon for Requiem Mass at 1 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Pat Prendergast. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place afterwards in the local Graveyard. He is survived by his wife, Enike, step-son Reuben, grandchildren, Nathan and Megan, brother, Patrick, Ardconnell, two sisters, Anne and Maureen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Swimming Lessons in Ballyshannon:
A new 8 – week term of swimming lessons will start on Tuesday 13th November in Ballyshannon Pool. To book a place for your son or daughter age 7 or over, please contact the Dolmen Centre – phone 074 9545879 or contact Bernie Molloy 086 1005465 for more details. All children from the Glenties, Ardara and Portnoo areas are welcome as the bus will pick up children from these areas. Please enrol by Friday 9th November 2012.

Bingo:
The winners at the Bingo in Glenties on Tuesday 20th November were – Johnny O’ Donnell won € 325; Fiona Gallagher won € 150; Rosaleen Melly, Bella Mc Gill, Breege Roarty, Mary Gallagher, Maureen Gildea and Nancy Mc Gill won € 100 each; Nora mc Hugh, Shaun Byrne, Ann Marie Cunningham, Mrs. Mc Dyre, Mrs. Cunningham, Mary Mc Devitt, Mary Gallagher, Carmel Doherty, Vera Breslin, Edith Mc Glynn, Breege Gallagher, Emma Sweeney and Jimmy Quinn won € 50 each; Siobhan Gamble, Hannah Molloy and Leticia Doherty won € 25 each; Anne Kennedy, Linda Harty and Bridie Boyle won € 20 each.

Glenties Community Centre – New Venues during Renovations:
The Glenties Community Centre Bingo will be in the Highlands Hotel every Tuesday evening for the remainder of the renovations in the Centre. Every line € 50 every house € 100. Jackpot if not won will be € 3800 on the 13th of November and if not won on that night on 45 numbers € 300 will be paid.

Draw:
The Glenties Community Centre Committee is running a draw to help with the funding of the renovations. Lines for the draw can be purchased in most business premises in the town. The 1st Prize is a 32″ HD ready Freeview LCD TV, 2nd Prize is a €100 Christmas Hamper, 3rd Prize is a € 50 Christmas drinks Hamper, 4th Prize is a € 30 Meal Voucher for the Highlands Hotel and 5th Prize is a Bottle of whiskey. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Weightwatchers:
Weightwatchers on a Thursday evening have relocated to the Parish Centre in the chapel car park in Ardara for the duration of the renovations in the Glenties Community Centre. Apologises for any inconvenience.

Fashion Show:
A Fashion Show & X – Factor Extravaganza will be held in the Highlands Hotel on this Friday – 9th November at 8 p.m. in aid of Glenties Day Centre / Alzheimer’s Day. Your support would be greatly appreciated for the continuation of this vital service to the Local Community.

Collections:
The Collection for the Friends of Letterkenny General Hospital, taken up recently, amounted to € 626.00. Many thanks to all those who supported this cause.

The I.S.P.C.C. collection which was taken up recently in Edeninfagh amounted to € 119.60. Many thanks to all those who supported this cause.

Glenties and Dungloe Sewerage Schemes:
On behalf of Seamus Rodgers, Michael Conaghan T.D. asked Mr. P. Hogan, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, the position regarding the proposed sewerage schemes in respect of Glenties and Dungloe – Reply on 23rd October 2012 – “The Dungloe and Glenties Sewerage Schemes, which are to advance jointly, are included in the Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2013 among the list of contracts in Donegal to start in the period 2010 – 2013. My Department has approved the tender documents for the work, which involves the provision of new wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and sewers in Dungloe and Glenties, and I understand that Donegal County Council is currently advancing the combined scheme through the tender process.”
