Glenties Notes 9th April 2008

Congratulations to Mary and Gerard Mc Nelis, Kilclooney, Portnoo on the birth last week of their second child, a baby sister (Katie) for Alana. Mary is a daughter of Zeta and the late Seamus Mc Closkey, Main St. Glenties.

Congratulations to Martina and Michael O’Connell who live in Co, Wicklow on the birth recently of their first child, a baby boy. Martina is a daughter of Frankie and Nora Campbell, Glen Road, Glenties.

Congratulations to Evelyn Ward, Straboy, Glenties and Charles Mc Manus, Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim who were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney on Saturday last.

Congratulations and best wishes to Peadar Ó Baoill from Fintown who is representing Donegal in Solo Singing in the Scór All-Ireland Final in Killarney, Co. Kerry on 26th April.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Sharon Gallagher, Upper Kilraine on the death last week of her brother Daniel Callaghan, Cloghan, Glenfin, as a result of an accident.

The winners in the Church of Ireland Easter Draw were as follows – Dee Boyle, Ardconnell, Glenties – Hamper. Patrick Kennedy, Main Street, Glenties – Cake. Frankie Devine, Mully – Whiskey. Sarah Quinn, Mully – Sweets. Thanks to all for your generous support.

The death took place at his home on Sunday 30th March of Dr. Frank E. Curran, Killybegs. His remains were brought to St. Mary’s Church, Killybegs on Tuesday morning. Five Priests concelebrated Requiem Mass. Members of his family and friends did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in Bruckless Graveyard. He is survived by his wife, Alicia, five sons, Chris, Louis, Karl, John and Hugh, one daughter, Cathy, three sisters, Annamae, Margaret and Maura, three brothers, Daniel, John and Neil, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Dr. Curran was a native of Glenties and was a son of the late John and Annie Curran, Church Road.

There will be a meeting of Glenties Parish Council on Thursday evening 10th April in the Highlands Hotel at 9.00p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Simon Wall, Architect, Westport Town Council, will give A Presentation on Town Planning, relevant to Tidy Towns, on Friday 11th April at 7.30p.m. in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. It would be appreciated if representatives from businesses, estates, the town and other interested parties attend this presentation.
