Glenties Notes on April 5th 2000

The Mass on Radio na Gaeltachta last Sunday 2nd April 2000 was celebrated by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C. C. Glenties, a native of Gweedore. It was broadcast from the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh. The Glenties and Edeninfagh choirs joined forces for the occasion.

John Joe Mc Devitt, (Connie)Tullyard died in Dungloe Hospital on Monday 3rd April. His remains were removed to the home of his sister, Teresa Mc Nelis, Narin Road that evening. Burial took place in New Cemetery on Wednesday after Requiem Mass in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Three brothers and five sisters survive him, Tony, Connell, Paddy, Mary Kathleen, Teresa, Philomena, Rosaleen and Noeleen.

Mary Boyle (nee Gallagher) died in Philadelphia recently. She was a sister of Packie Gallagher, Straoughter, Glenties.

There was a big crowd in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties last Friday night to see Rose Molloy receive the Benemerenti Medal and Papal Scroll in recognition of her 25 years service to the church. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P presented it to her. Fr. Con Cunningham P.P. Falcarragh assisted by Fr. Prendergast and Fr. Nigel Gallagher C.C. celebrated Mass. Canon Moore was also there. Fr. Con, who served in Glenties for 12 years, gave the homily. Rose’s family were all there for the happy occasion.
