Glenties Notes on July 20th 2002

Congratulations to Terry Mc Hugh, who set a world record at Morton Stadium, Santry on Saturday by winning his 19th consecutive national javelin title. Terry broke his first Irish record in 1984 and was the first Irishman to throw the javelin in the Olympics for Ireland in Seoul in 1988. He has competed in four Summer Olympics and in two Winter Olympics in the bobsleigh and has qualified for the European Championships in Munich next month. Terry is a son of the late Francie Mc Hugh, Stranaglough, Glenties and Tipperary and has many cousins in the Glenties area.

Congratulations to the under 15 and under 17 teams who were victorious in Downings last Saturday and well done to the under 12 team who reached their final.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Yvonne Kelly, Ardara on the death recently of her nephew, Jim O’Doherty, Nass, Co. Kildare, to Mary A. Kelly, The Rock, Glenties and Martha Kelly, Highlands Hotel, Glenties on the death of their cousin and to all his relatives and friends.
