Glenties Notes on May 13th 2004

The Patrick MacGill Summer School takes place this year from the 18th July until the 23rd July. Entries for the Literary Competition should be sent to Mrs. Nora Breslin on or before 14th June and can be in Irish or English. Infants to sixth class may enter poetry or stories in any theme in the Primary Schools Competition. In the Secondary Schools Competition students may enter poetry or stories in any theme. There is no entry fee in either competition. The entry fee for the Adult Literary Competition and the John Player Perpetual Cup is 3 Euro per entry or 6 Euro for three entries. Poetry in any theme may be entered in this competition.

On Saturday 1st May 2004 Tracy Doherty and Frankie Devine were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Denis Quinn P.P. Falcarragh assisted by Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Tracy is a daughter of Paddy and Mary Doherty, Stranaglough, Glenties and Frankie is a son of Bridget and the late Frankie Devine, Banganboy, Glenties. Her father gave the bride away and her two sisters Amanda and Pamela and a friend, Ann Marie Kennedy were her bridesmaids. Hughie Quinn a cousin of the groom was bestman. Another cousin, John Quinn and a friend Frank Bonner were groomsmen. Mark Doherty a nephew of the bride was a pageboy. Readings were by Marion Carr cousin of the groom and John Doherty, brother of the bride. Darragh Gallagher and Emma Doherty read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon is being spent in Florida.

Congratulations to Aisling Corcoran who was on the Donegal Girls U/16 football team who won the Ulster U/16 Cup last week when they defeated Tyrone in the final. Aisling is a daughter of Gerry and Bridget Corcoran, Meenahalla, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Kevin Mc Laughlin, Kilkenny, Glenties on the death recently of his brother Tony in Mallow, Co. Cork.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Mary Alice Kennedy, Maas, Glenties, who died suddenly in Dungloe on Sunday 9the May 2004.

The Magee Bluestack Challenge Committee would like to thank all those who collected and contributed to the collection for “People with Special Needs” at the Grotto, Glenties and Hillhead, Ardara on Monday 3rd May. The amount raised was 3,817.22 Euro.
