Glenties Notes on May 9th 2001

The boys and girls from the five schools of the Parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 29th April 2001 were as follows; – Edeninfagh – Bríd Ní Thiomanaí, Cáitlín Ní Thomanaí, Peadar Ó Coilín. Fintown – Diarmuid Mac Aodh, Ciaran Mac Monagail, Lisa Nic Daibhidh, Michelle Nic Fhlionn, Peadar Ó Colla. Drimnacrosh – Patricia Conway, Ruth Gallagher, Christopher Mc Dyre, Niles Nichols, Therese O’Callaghan. Kilkenny – Martina Mc Devitt, Linda Mc Dyer, Charles Melly. Scoil Mhuire,Glenties – Brian Boyle, Eamonn Boyle, Sinead Burke, Aisling Corcoran, Thomas Cranley, Rosaleen Furey, David Gallagher, Martin Gallagher, Jason Kee, Aoife Keeney, Laura Lee Kelly, Ann Marie Mc Brearty, Linda Mc Grath, James Mc Loone, Leo Mc Loone, Ian Molloy, Michael Ó Malley, Patricia Quinn, Aine Regan, Aine Scott, Eoin Wade.

Congratulations to Eilis and Thomas Gildea, Stranaglough, Glenties on the birth of their baby boy in Letterkenny Hospital, on Tuesday 1st May 2001.

Congratulations to Sonia and James Toland, The Rock, Glenties, on the birth of their baby boy in Letterkenny Hospital on Friday 4th May 2001.

For the past few months a group of adults have been rambling agus ag caint Gaeilge round the Glenties area. These people are interested in learning and improving their ability to chat and communicate by talking to and learning the Irish language from the native speakers living in the area. The next ‘oiche airnealach’ will be on next Thursday 17th Bealtaine – (May) i dteach Prionseas O Cúinn, Bothar an Mhuillean. Failte roimh achan duine agus tóg paicéad brioscaí leat.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives of Mary Mc Loone, The Croaghs, Glenties, who died in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Wednesday 2nd May 2001. Requiem Mass was celebrated in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh and burial took place in Edeninfagh Cemetery.

Sincere sympathy is extended to wife Breda (formerly Keeney, Tullyhoniver, Glenties) and other relatives and friends of Hugh Mc Hugh, native of Ardara, who died in England recently and was buried in the New Cemetery, Glenties on Sunday last after Requiem Mass in The Church of the Holy Family, Ardara.

The death took place on Wednesday 2nd May of Charlie Gallagher, Batterstown, Co. Meath and formerly of Doobin, Glenties. He is survived by his sons, Pauric and Cathal and daughter Marguerite, brother, John, Derries, sister, Mary, Straoughter, Glenties, son-in-law, Pat, daughters-in-law, Marie and Melissa, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brother-in-law, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His wife predeceased him twenty three years ago.
