Glenties Notes on October 9th 2003

On Friday 26th September 2003 Carolyn Mc Loone and Kieran Gallagher were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney. Fr. Bernard Wilson, a friend of the couple, from Manchester assisted by Fr. Philip Daly, Kilclooney, officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Carolyn is a daughter of Padraig and Eileen Mc Loone, Straboy, Glenties and Kieran is a son of Etta and the late Mickey Gallagher, Narin. Her father gave the bride away and her cousin, Sharon Shelton and the groom’s sister Geraldine attended her. Willie Molloy a friend of the groom was bestman and his brother Michael Gallagher was groomsman. Carolyn’s niece and nephew, Shana and Logan Quinn were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by the bride’s aunt and godmother Bried White and the groom’s brother, Michael. Cheryl Quinn, sister of the bride, Ann Jacob, sister of the groom, Wayne Griffin, Veronica Laughlin, cousins of the bride, Lisa Loughrey, niece of the groom and a friend, Michael Keon, read Prayers of the Faithful. The groom’s sister, Margaret and the bride’s mother, Eileen brought the Gifts to the Atlar. The reception was held in the Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon was spent in the U.S.A.

Francis Houston and Susie Shovelin were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney on Saturday 27th September 2003. A friend of the bride’s family, Fr. Martin assisted by Fr. Daly, Kilclooney officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Francis is a son of Francie and Josie Houston, The Rock, Glenties and Susie is a daughter of Margaret and the late Packie Shovelin, Ballykilduff, Portnoo. Her brothers, Pat and Gavin Shovelin gave the bride away and her friend, Helen Mc Devitt was her bridesmaid. Sean Houston, brother of the groom was bestman. Readings were by Rosaleen Devally, sister of the groom and Michael Shovelin, brother of the bride. Breidin Keeney, Kathleen Corduff, Josephine Sutton, sisters of the groom, Mark and Pauric Meehan, cousins of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Mary Cunningham, sister of the groom and Margaret Shovelin, mother of the bride brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Thomas Donoghue, Siobhan Mc Elhinney and Amanda Mc Guigan. The reception was held in the Highland’s Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon was spent in Lanzarote.

Congratulations to the Donegal Ladies on their success in the All Ireland Final in Croke Park on Sunday and special congratulations to local girl Aoife Mc Donnell from Glen Road, Glenties, who was part of the winning team. Aoife is a daughter of Teresa and Frank Mc Donnell and a granddaughter of Teresa and the late Columba Gallagher, Glen Road, Glenties.
