Glenties Notes on September 28th 2002

The death took place, suddenly in London on Monday 9th September 2002 of Josephine Bonner, formerly of Mully, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her parents, Paddy Joe and Peggy Molloy’s home on Saturday 14th and to The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties, Fr. Denis Quinn P.P. Falcarragh and Fr. Francis Mc Loone Adm. Letterkenny concelebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties where her baby son, Jonathan is buried. Josephine is survived by her husband, John, sons, Mark and Shawn, parents, Paddy Joe and Peggy, brothers, Patrick and Martin, Fintown, Hughie, Station Road, John, Ardconnell, Cormac, Mill Road, Glenties, sisters, Margaret Flannery, Lr. Mully, Glenties, Geraldine Harkin, and Sadie Mitchell, London, mother-in-law, Maggie Bonner, Straboy, Glenties, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

On Tuesday 17th September 2002 the death took place peacefully at her home of Mary Boyle, Narin Road and formerly of Ardconnell, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday afternoon. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties, assisted by a family friend, Fr. Maurice Mc Gill, celebrated Requiem Mass at 1.30p.m. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Mary is survived by sons, James, Glenties, Charlie, Dublin, daughters, Lena Dooley, Glenties, Mary Ní Chartaigh, Portnoo, Rose Boyle, Burtonport, Bernadette Mc Gill, Ardara, sisters, Bridget Mc Groarty, Birmingham, Teresa Breslin, Ardara, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband, Charlie predeceased her on December 27th last year and her son Neil some years ago. Her brothers, Leo, James, Charlie, Peter and John Watters, sisters Annie Nolan and Rosie Watters also predeceased her.

The death took place on Monday 16th September 2002 on his way to Letterkenny hospital of Cormac Quinn (Hughie), Mully, Glenties. His remains were brought home on Tuesday and to The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Thursday. Fr. Denis Quinn P.P. Falcarragh assisted by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Graveyard. Cormac is survived by his wife, Sarah, sons, John and Hughie, Mully, daughters, Bridgeen Gallagher, Ard Patrick, Glenties, Marion Carr, Dungloe, Bernadette Bonner, Glenfin, sisters, Kitty Hughes, Dungannon, Eileen Quinn, Wales, grandchildren, sons and daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His sisters, Hannah, Annie, Mary Bridget, Madge, Maggie, Rosie and a baby brother, John, predeceased him.

Glenties Church of Ireland will be one hundred and fifty years old this year. To celebrate this occasion a special service will be held in the Church on Wednesday 9th October at 8.00p.m. The new Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, The Right Reverend Kenneth Good will be the special Preacher on the day. Everyone will be very welcome.

Tina Campbell and John Breslin were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 14th September 2002. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Tina is a daughter of Martin (from Ardara) and the late Bridget Campbell, Monaghan and John is a son of Teague and Eileen Breslin, Ardara. Her father gave the bride away and her cousin; Joanne Mc Loone was bridesmaid. John’s brother, Patrick was bestman. Niamh Campbell, niece of the bride and Aoife Breslin, niece of the groom, were flowergirls and Oisin Campbell, nephew of the bride was pageboy. Readings were by Glen Campbell, brother of the bride and Mary Breslin, sister of the groom. James and Roisin Mc Loone, cousins of the bride and Ellen Jane Breslin, sister of the groom read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by the bride’s aunt, Mena Mc Loone and Eileen Breslin, mother of the groom. The reception was held in The Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon was abroad.

Congratulations to Daniel Mc Loone, Maas, Glenties and Caroline Mc Kinney who were married in Buncrana on Thursday 19th.

Congratulations to Breid and Joe Gavigan, Narin Road, Glenties on the birth in Letterkenny Hospital last week, of their second child, a baby brother for Kevin.

Local Marathon Man, Michael Fitzgerald, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties is busy training for the New York Marathon on the 3rd November, which he will be running in aid of Donegal Hospice.
