Go Gaste Glenties v Ardara will be shown on TG4 this Sunday 13th October at 8.30pm. The opening episode this Sunday features an intense match-up between old rivals Ardara and Glenties. Both teams gave it everything but there could only be one winner. After the gruelling race there was only one minute and 20 seconds between the teams but who won? Well, you will just have to tune in on Sunday at 8.30pm on TG4 to find out.

Naomh Conaill Minor Board are hosting once again after last years success Naomh Conaill’s Got Talent in the Market Hall on Friday the 18th of October @7pm. Admission €5 adult and children free. The N56 Main Street, Glenties will be closed to all traffic by order of Donegal County Council on Thursday September 12th between 8am and 9pm.  Closures will also take place on Sunday September 15th between 3pm and 8pm.  These closures are associated with the 2019 Glenties Harvest Fair. Access will be permitted to residents and emergency vehicles only.  Diversion Route is along the R261 from Hillhead, Ardara to Maas via Narin and will be signposted.

Glenties Musical Theatre are busy rehearsing the musical Hairspray which they will present in the Comprehensive School Gym on September 19th, 20th, 22nd, at 8.00 and with a Matinee at 1 o’clock on Saturday 21st . With performers in the age range of 11 to 60 plus [no one owning up to being older !] lots of good songs and dancing, it will be a good night out for all the family. Glenties Parish Youth Choir:  An enrolment evening will take place in the Parochial house on Tuesday 27th August from 7 to 8 pm for choir members for the coming school year.  The choir members are asked to make a commitment to attend as many of the choir practises as possible. These are held on most Friday afternoons straight after school in the Chapel. The choir sings at the Family Mass which is usually the first Saturday evening of every month plus Christmas and Easter Sunday morning and also the First Holy Communion Mass.  All ages welcome but , due to lack of space, the number of under 7’s is limited. Young musicians are also very welcome.

Fintown Taobh Tíre Library:  We are offering Readings Rooms from September for children aged 10 -12 years where a story or poem is read aloud and discussed.  Reading rooms aims to promote the mental wellbeing of children, increase their confidence whilst also instilling a love of literature.  The group will meet on a Monday evening 7p.m. to 8p.m.  It  is  limited  to 10 children. If you would like to enrol your child, please contact Liam on 087 6365481.

The Ordination of Rev. Anthony Briody will take place in the Cathedral, Letterkenny on Thursday August 15th at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this Ordination Mass in the Cathedral.  This will be a great day of joy for the Diocese but especially for the town of Glenties.  It will be some years before the Diocese will see another Ordination.  Rev. Anthony will celebrate his First Mass in Glenties on Friday 16th August at 7.00pm.  After Mass Rev. Anthony will impart his first blessings.

Alan Kee Memorial Darts: The family of the late Alan Kee R.I.P. would like to thank Alan’s team mates for organising a memorial darts tournament and all those who helped out in anyway on the night to make it such a success.  A special word of thanks to those who sponsored the raffles and the auction and to the people who gave generous donations. A total of €9647.55 was raised on the night in aid of the Church of Ireland, Glenties. A huge thank you to all.

Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Event at the Glen Tavern 16th,17th and 18th August.  All donations will go to Glenties Day Centre.
Friday 16th August: Darts Competition at 9pm  Entry €10.  Winner:  Trophy & €100,  Runner up €50.  Finger Food on the night.  All Welcome.

Sunday 18th August:  Motorbike Run at 3pm from the Glen Tavern, registration from 2pm.  Followed by BBQ and spot prizes.  Music by Pat Molloy.

**Mass on Tuesday 23rd July will be at 7.30pm.  There will be no morning Mass**

The Ordination of Rev. Anthony Briody will take place in the Cathedral, Letterkenny on August 15th at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this Ordination Mass in the Cathedral.  This will be a great day of joy for the Diocese but especially for the town of Glenties.  It will be some years before the Diocese will see another Ordination. Envelopes are available to collect from the back of the Church or from the Parochial House if you wish to give a gift.  Sealed envelopes, without any names, can be returned and placed in the collection basket on or before Sunday 4th August.

Copies of the booklet, Celebrating a Catholic Funeral – Guidelines for the Diocese of Raphoe, can be found in the porch area of the Church.  This publication gives a good overview and explanation of the various strands involved in a Catholic Funeral – liturgy, theology, sacred music and the purpose of each in commending our loved ones to the mercy of God.

  • Music for the Funeral Mass must be sacred (ie Hymns).  Secular songs may be played in the graveyard if you so wish.
  • Should you like a eulogy, a good occasion for this might be at the wakehouse, afterwards in the graveyard or at the refreshments following the burial.  “The Funeral Mass in the Church is neither the appropriate occasion nor place to insert a speech or eulogy.”  (No 5, Diocesan Guidelines Booklet)

Water Safety Ireland are holding their summer weeks this year during the weeks beginning Monday 29th July and Monday 5th August.  Registration at 9am on the Monday morning of each week at the beach.  As always a great opportunity to improve confidence and enjoyment of sea swimming.  This year there is an invitation to adults with a little swimming ability and none to come along for lessons with the instructors.  These lessons will take place at the pier in Portnoo starting Monday 29th July at 7pm.

The Ordination of Rev. Anthony Briody will take place in the Cathedral, Letterkenny on August 15th at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this Ordination Mass in the Cathedral.  This will be a great day of joy for the Diocese but especially for the town of Glenties.  It will be some years before the Diocese will see another Ordination. Envelopes are available to collect from the back of the Church or from the Parochial House if you wish to give a gift.  Sealed envelopes, without any names, can be returned and placed in the collection basket on or before Sunday 4th August.

Kellogg’s GAA Cul Camps 2019: Make friends for life and get a free GAA jersey, training top and backpack with Kellogg’s GAA Cul Camp!  Action packed week of fun and games.  Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July, 10am to 2.30pm for children aged 6-13 (children who turn 6 before 31/12/2019 are eligible to register).  Children of all skill levels will learn and play GAA games with qualified coaches at our local Naomh Conaill Club.  Register at gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamps or contact  Cul Camp Co-ordinator Robert Farrell at 087 9347180.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Thursday after 9.30am Mass to 6pm.  This is a great form of quiet reflective prayer.  New adorers are always welcome in maintaining the flow of prayer.  This is especially the case between the times of 1pm and 4pm.  If you could commit to an hour perhaps you would give consideration to these times especially.
