Naomh Conaill Notes 31st August 2011

Commiserations to Jim and the Donegal team on losing to Dublin last Sunday in the All Ireland semi final in Croke Park.

There was no winner of last weeks club lotto. The numbers drawn were 1,4,8,11. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Aine Mc Nelis, Derries and PJ Furey, Mullnamore. This weeks jackpot is 8,100 Euro.

Well done to the U14s who beat Glenfin in the co semi final last Friday and we wish them luck in the co final against St Eunans which is due to be played next Wednesday evening in Ballybofey.

Good luck also to the ladies who play Cloughaneely in the co final replay this Sunday in Convoy at 2pm.

The minors are away to St Johns in Fintra next Monday at 7pm.

Anyone interested in joining the 200 club should contact any club officer before next Monday. There will be a club meeting in the clubhouse next Monday night at 9pm and all 200 club sheets should be returned at the meeting.

There was no winner of last weeks club lotto. The numbers drawn were 4,9,19,21.Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Gerry Doherty, Tullyard Road and Emer Doherty, Kilcar. This weeks jackpot is 7,900 Euro.

The ladies drew with Cloughaneely 1-6 each in the Junior final in Ballybofey last Sunday. The replay is due to take place this weekend.

The reserves made a disappointing exit from the championship losing to St Eunans in Glenswilly last Sunday evening.

The U16s had a good victory against Naomh Colmcille in the co semi final last Monday evening in Killygordan. No date has being fixed for the final yet.

The U14s beat Ardara 4-9 to 2-7 in the Regional semi final last Friday in Fintra. They were due to play Aodh Ruadh in the final on Wednesday 17th Aug.

The club are holding a summer camp running from Tues 23rd August to Friday 26th August. The cost will be 20 Euro per child and 10 Euro for additional child. Registration forms will be available the morning of the camp.

There will be a Table Quiz in aid of the Donegal team training fund in Keeneys Bar this Friday night starting at 9pm. The winning team will go on to All County Quiz Final in the Abbey Hotel on Thursday 25th August.Please support.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 2,6,10,20. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Cissie Meehan, Mc Closkey Crescent and Mary Doherty, Stranaglough. The jackpot now stands at 7,800 Euro. Draw takes place every Tuesday night at the Community Centre Bingo.

Good luck to the senior ladies who play Cloughaneely in the co final this Sunday at 1pm in Ballybofey.

The seniors beat Dungloe in the league last Saturday evening 1-12 to 0-8. Both the seniors and reserves are due to have a league game this Saturday evening.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 1,2,15,26. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Claire Campbell, Meenalargan and Mary Boyle(Mc Gill), Main Street. The jackpot now stands at 7,600 Euro.

The senior team had mixed fortunes last weekend beating Ardara at home last Friday 1-8 to 2-4 and losing away to Gweedore on Sunday 1-3 to 0-10. The reserves had a comfortable victory against Gweedore winning 3-13 to 1-7.

The U21s beat St Eunans 0-16 to 2-7 after extra time in Letterkenny last Tuesday in the preliminary round of the championship.

Good luck to Jim and the boys this weekend against Kildare. Anyone with tickets ordered for the game can collect in the clubhouse this Friday between 8pm and 9pm.

Congratulations to Jim and the Donegal team on their fantastic victory in the Ulster final over Derry last Sunday in Clones. It was a very proud day for the club with Jim as manager and 6 players in the squad Anthony, Dermott, Marty, Leo, Eoin and Dara. They have all been great ambassadors for club and county. The All Ireland quarter finals are due to be played on the August Bank Holiday weekend and it is expected that it will be all ticket so anyone interested in tickets should contact any club officer as soon as possible.

The Late Harry Gillespie
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 3rd July 2011 of Harry Gillespie, Mill Road, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Des Sweeney concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Harry is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughters, Eithne, Fiona, Sharon and Loraine, son Henry, grandchildren, brother, Eamonn, son-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two brothers, John and Benny predeceased him. Originally from Glencolmcille, Harry came to Glenties about 40 years ago and opened a Garage on Mill Road.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo on Tuesday 5th July in the Community Centre, Glenties were – Claire Keeney won the Jackpot of € 400. Marian Ward won € 150. Christopher O’ Donnell, Paula Hegarty, Bridie Boyle, Kathleen Mc Glynn, Rosaleen Melly, Cathy Connell, Brenda Reid and Bridie Doherty won € 100 each. Brown Kid won € 60. Kealin Mc Monagle, Fiona Gallagher, Hugh Gallagher, Alana Keeney, Christine Mc Cool, Tom Lavery, Rosbeg, Denise Campbell, Winnie Long, Carol Sweeney, Marie Cunningham and Kitty Mc Glynn won € 50 each. Nancy Shovlin and Josie Gallagher won € 25 each.

Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection
The total amount raised at the recent Church Gate Collection in aid of Donegal Hospice was € 1,404.60. The amount collected in Edeninfagh was € 126.97 and the amount collected in Glenties was € 1, 277.63. Thank you to everyone involved.

Comprehensive School Reunion

Time Change – Graveyard Mass
The Annual Graveyard Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard at 2.00 p.m. next Sunday 17th July. It would be greatly appreciated if you could let your friends, relatives and former neighbours, who are travelling from outside the area, know that the time of the Mass has been brought forward to 2 p.m.

Biddy Devine Memorial Walk
The Annual Biddy Devine Memorial Walk in aid of The Kidney Dialysis Unit, Letterkenny Hospital takes place on Saturday 23rd July – departing from the Glen Tavern at 12 noon 20 km Walk. For more details contact Frankie – 9557978 or Mary – 9551170.

The U14s drew with Dungloe last Wednesday in Dungloe 1-8 to 0-11. They are at home to Na Rossa next Mon 18th and home to Four Masters on Wednesday 20th July. Good luck to U14 player Eoghan Mc Gettigan who plays at half time in the Ulster final in Clones this Sunday.

The U16s beat St Nauls 2-6 to 1-7 in Mountcharles last Monday in the championship and they now play them again in the 2nd leg this Friday at home at 7.30pm.

The seniors were very unlucky to lose 1-10 to 0-12 at home to St Eunans in the league last Saturday evening.

Glenties Notes 2nd June 2011

Bluestack Challenge for Special Needs
Brigid Kee, Rosemary Dewhirst (Ward), Martina Rodgers and her sister Noreen Kelly did the 40k Walk for Special Needs on June 18th. Now they are looking for your help to collect funds for this worthy cause. If you have any unwanted clothing, adults and children’s, paired shoes, hats, scarves, belts, curtains and linens they would be delighted to get them, so they can exchange them for cash. Bags may be left at the Community Centre, Glenties on Saturday evening 2nd July from 6. 00 p.m. until 8.00 p.m. or ring Brigid on 9551824 / 087 9276415.

Irish Water Safety Weeks
This year there will be two Water Safety Weeks held in Narin – Portnoo. The dates are 25th to 29th July and 1st to 5th August. Swim Classes will take place at Narin strand, and water safety classes will be held off the pier in Portnoo. Everyone is welcome for what is always a great experience of sea swimming, with excellent instructors, and a good opportunity for young people to work for another water safety badge. Registration will take place on Monday 25th at 10 a.m. at the beach and all information about times of classes etc. will be given then.

Mc Donnell Sports Coaching
Summer Sports Camp for children aged 6 – 13 years will be held in the Gym behind Scoil Mhuire Glenties from Monday 11th to Friday 15th July from 11.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. The cost is € 30. Sports include Football, Basketball, Rounders, Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Gymnastics and Athletics. Guest Coaches will be present. Final Call for 40th Reunion of Comprehensive School years of 1969,’70, ’71 and ’72:
Unless more than 120 people have booked or confirmed by June 30th, that they are going to attend the Reunion, this event will not take place. The planned Itinerary for the Event is – Saturday 30th July, a Wine Reception at the School at 7.00 p.m. and a Get Together with teachers and friends from the past. At 8.30 p.m. there is a Buffet and Dance in The Highlands Hotel. Price per person is € 15. Church Gate Collection for Donegal Hospice
The Annual collection in aid of Donegal Hospice will be taken up before all the Masses, next weekend – Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July.

Good luck to the U14 girls and management who are taking part in the U14 All Ireland Feile this week in Cork.

Well done to Jim, Anthony, Dermott, Leo, Marty, Eoin, Dara and the Donegal team on reaching the Ulster final after beating Tyrone last Sunday.

The senior and reserves are due to play Glenswilly at home in the 2nd leg of the championship this Sunday at 2pm and 3.30pm.

The club are organising a Mobile Heart Screening Service on Sat 9th July at the club grounds.This screening service will be run by Healthy Hearts Healthy Lives who provide cardiac screening to help prevent sudden deaths in young people who may have Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.The target age group is 14yrs-35yrs.The places are limited and the cost is 45 Euro per person payable at time of booking.For booking or more information contact Martin Mc Dyer 087 2789327 or Roseleen Doherty 087 6235023

Charity Walk in aid of Donegal Hospice
A Walk in aid of Donegal Hospice will take place on Saturday 25th June. It will leave the Highlands Hotel at 10.45 a.m. taking in Doobin, Meenahalla, and Glen Road and back to the Highlands Hotel for light refreshments. Everyone is welcome. For more details contact Joe on 087 6766087.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 14th June were – Bernie Fitzpatrick won the Jackpot of € 400. Mamie Mc Geehan, Sally Mc Hugh, Sarah Mc Glynn, Breegín Keeney, Lettie Doherty, Liz Buckley, Annie Mc Ginley, Breege Gallagher, Rosbeg and Annie Mc Ginley won € 100 each. Lisa Coughlan, Bernadette Mc Glynn, Rose Mc Fadden, Liz Buckley, Teresa Molloy, Liz Buckley, Majella Boyle, Dim Melly, Kathleen Mc Cabe, Binbane, Michael Langan and Packie Sweeney, Rosbeg won € 50 each. Abbie Bonner won € 30.

“Cash for Clobber”
Scoil Mhuire will be having their final “Cash for Clobber” collection for this school term here in the school on Friday 24th June. They are collecting – unwanted clothing for adults and children; paired shoes, hats and scarves, handbags and belts, curtains and linens. For each bag the school collects they will receive € 4. Scoil Mhuire would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the year.

The Playground Committee would like to thank everyone who contributed to their recent Church Gate Collection. The amount collected was € 714.

Universal Song
An evening of Uplifting Music and Song will take place in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 26th June at 7 p.m. The programme will present songs and music to uplift the soul, performed by, Parish of Glenties Youth Choir, Scoil Chonaill Bunbeg Choir, Scoil Mhuire, Glenties, St. Conal’s, Kilclooney Choir and St. Bridget’s Choir, Lettermacaward. The concert will also feature performances by various Soloists, and promises to be a fantastic evening. Admission is by donation and all money raised will go to Letterkenny General Hospital’s Ophthalmic Department to help fund an OCT Scanner. This is a type of scanner which helps diagnose early eye disease in people with diabetes, age related macular degeneration, and in glaucoma, and could prevent sight loss. It is a most worthy cause and we ask that you all come along and show your support. You are promised some top class entertainment.

Care of the Aged Collection
The Annual Care of the Aged Collection will be taken up next weekend, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June.
