Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 19th October 2010

A free day’s golf is in the offing at Narin and Portnoo Golf Club on Saturday, October 30th, 2010! This event has been long in the preparation and after a great summer of golf at Narin & Portnoo, the club is delighted (in association with Donegal Hospice) to stage this free day’s golf for all who have played, or would like to play our course for the first time.

The club has had a long association with the Hospice movement and is proud to join with them on this occasion to help the cause. That’s where we come in! To book your tee time for a free round of golf, just complete the quick questionnaire and we will give you your tee time. Just like that! If you want to play with friends, let them know about this great offer, get them to fill the questionnaire and we will try to facilitate them as best as we can, depending on availability. Then just turn up on the day and play golf.

We would ask that you make a contribution to the Donegal Hospice on the day as they are our partners in this promotion. All proceeds collected will be forwarded to this great organization. Get clicking!

The draw for the matchplay stage of the Golfer of the Year competition has been made and is as follows: A. Anthony Molloy v Aaron Bennett; B. Hugh Smith v John Callaghan; C. John B. Gallagher v Malachy Murrin; D. Donie McCole v Kieran Gallagher. Matches to be played by November 7th. Semi-final stage: A v B; C v D by November 21st. The final will be played on December 12th.

A presentation of prizes will be held at the club on Saturday, October 30th, commencing at 9p.m. Podium prize-winners in the following events are asked to be present: Leo Molloy Fundraiser, Ulster Bank, Ardara GAA, Coastal Windows, Maguire meats, Kilcar GAA and Clock Tower Bar & Bistro.

Pat McGee won the latest Wednesday Open on a break-off-tie with 38 points from committee member, Kevin Gilgunn. The damage was done on his front nine, with five pars building up a fine score. Further pars at 10, 11, 13, 16 and a vital one on 18 ensured success by the narrowest of margins. Mary Nicholson was best lady on the day with 34 nett.

We congratulate Agnes Shovlin on achieving the latest ace at the club, this time at the eleventh hole with her trusty six iron!

Sunday was a day for the low handicapper, with Lyle Taggart victorious in a competition played in windy conditions, featuring localised showers of biblical proportion. Yours truly deigned to venture out on Clooney warren only to be buffeted from one shower and double bogey to another. Serves me right! Lyle is made of sterner stuff and he utilised the wind going out to record 18 points (including a birdie at Loch Eala) before impressing all with his long-hitting coming home. The birdie at Inis Caoil (15th) was the stuff of legend!
