New Arrival
Congratulations to Lorraine and Raymond Brennan, Station Road, Glenties on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother (Thomas) for Annie and Sophie.

Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 8th March were – John Boyle won the Jackpot of € 400. Isobel Mc Loone, Nora Gallagher, Bridie Boyle, Rosemary Whelan, Anna Cannon, Christine Mc Cool. Kathy Connell and Patricia White won € 100 each. Sally Mc Guigan, Cathy Connell, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Rosaleen Gallagher, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Kathleen Mc Glynn, Bridie Gallagher and Martina Hanlon won € 50 each. Anne Kennedy, Patsy Martin, P. The Late Sean Boyle
The death took place at his home on Tuesday 1st March 2011 of Sean Boyle, Ard Patrick, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Gerard Cunningham (cousin of Sean’s) concelebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00 a.m. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Sean is survived by his wife, Una, sons, John and Cartha, daughters, Michelle and Elaine, grandchildren, brothers, Cara, Benny and Eamonn, sisters, Annette and Nora, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. He was predeceased by his brother Josie on the Saturday previous to his own death February 26th. Another brother, Donal and sister Celine also predeceased him.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Ronan Molloy, Mill Road, Glenties on the death of his mother, Marie Molloy, Drumbarron, Ardara, which took place on Saturday 12th March 2011 in Letterkenny Hospital; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Teresa Gallagher, Meenahalla and Paper Stop, Main St. Glenties on the sudden death of her father, Donnelly Duffy, New Mills, Letterkenny, which took place last Saturday 12th March 2011; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Annie O’Donnell, Meenahalla, Glenties, who died in Killybegs Hospital on Monday 14th March 2011. Annie was 103 years old.

Glenties Community Centre
Bingo takes place every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Every line € 50; every house € 100; Jackpot € 400. Doors open at 8.30 p.m. Two Snooker Tables available to play 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. each night except Tuesday. Thank you for your continued support of Glenties Community Centre.

Country Music Night
There will be a Country Music Night in the Highlands Hotel on Friday 1st April from 10 p.m. – 12 midnight. Music is by Shaun Mc Monagle.

Dance Classes
Dance Classes in Jiving, Fox Trot, Quick Step and Waltz are taking place in the Highlands Hotel on Monday nights from 8p.m. – 10 p.m. Teacher is Seamus Melvin from Mayo.

Community Employment Scheme

Fintown Festival
Feile na Finne is on this year from the 3rd to the 6th of June. The launch of the festival Mayor / Mayoress campaign takes place next Saturday 19th March in the Noble Bar.

Scoil Mhuire Enrolment Day
Enrolment Day at Scoil Mhuire, Glenties for school year 2011-2012 will take place on Thursday 31st March between1:15- 3:00 pm. All incoming pupils are welcome to visit at this time, to see their new classroom for next year and perhaps meet a friend or two. Parents, please bring Birth and Baptismal Certificates, PPS Number, Medical card number and e-mail address, thank you. We look forward to seeing you on the 31st.

There was a minor board meeting held last Friday in the clubhouse and the folowing underage managers were elected for the year ahead Under 8 Martin Doherty, Under 10 Martin Smith, Under 12 Hughie Mc Gill, Under 14 Seosamh McKelvey, Michael Quinn, Under 16 Michael Gallagher, James Griffin, Under 18 Connie Doherty, Terence Gallagher. The AGM will be on Sunday 27th Feb in the clubhouse at 6pm. Club members can pick up nominations forms in McGlincheys or The Cope in Fintown and must be returned to the club secretary no later than 5pm on the 11th February.

The Ladies AGM is on Sunday 6th February at 7pm in the clubhouse.

The Anual Presentation Dinner Dance is on Saturday 12th February in The Highlands Hotel. Tickets are 35 Euro and there are a limited amount availble and anyone interested in tickets should give their name to Poggy O’Donnell, David Kelch, Paddy Boyle, Muriel Hegarty, Damian Craig or James Griffin on or before this Sunday 23rd January. There is also the option of a 10 Euro ticket which includes the presentation and dance.

The 200 club draw was held last week and the 1st prize of 500 Euro went to John Pa Bonner and 5 prizes of 100 Euro went to Joe Byrne, Patrick Bonner,Rosie Molloy, Jane O Donnell and PJ Furey.

There will be a Night at the Races in the Noble Bar, Fintown this Friday at 9pm. A bus will leave Roddys at 8.30pm.

The Ulster Club Senior Final against Crossmaglen has being refixed for this Sunday at 2pm in Clones but as the weather conditions are not expected to improve during the week there is no guarantee the game will go ahead so supporters should check the club website (naomhconaill.ie), local radio stations or Mc Glincheys for up to date information on the final.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 11,13,23,28. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Vincent Ward, Fintown and Mary Mc Mahon, Fintown. The jackpot now stands at 4.500 Euro.

The Night at the Races due to take place this Friday night in the Noble Bar, Fintown has been put back to Friday 17th December because of the bad weather.

Harvest Queen 2010
Congratulations to Shauna Mc Grath (representing Nighthawks) who was selected as this year’s Harvest Queen at a dance in the Highlands Hotel on Sunday Night.

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre on Tuesday night were – Breege Roarty won the Jackpot of € 400. Mrs. Monaghan, Peggy Molloy, Fintown, Breege Roarty, P. Connaghan, Maura Boyle, Eileen Sweeney, Bernadette Mc Devitt, Joseph Martin, Ardara, Aggie O’ Sullivan, Leitir and Mary Breslin won € 100 each. Bernie Maguire, Binbane, Teresa Molloy, Fintown, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Bridie Boyle, Jean Boyle, Ardara, Christine Mc Cool, Catriona Gallagher, Norah Gallagher, Ann White and Margaret Murray won € 50 each. Fiona Gallagher and Maura Boyle won € 25 each.

Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers classes have recommenced on Thursdays in the Community Centre, Glenties from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Night Classes
Enrollment for Night Classes in the Comprehensive School will take place on Monday 20th September from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Weekly French Classes

Bonner / Murray Wedding
Rory Bonner and Aoife Murray were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 21st August 2010.  Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass.  Rory is a son of Joe and Marie Bonner, Buncrubog, Glenties and Aoife is a daughter of Michael and Margaret Murray, Bray, Co. Wicklow.  Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Claire, Siobhan and Niamh were her bridesmaids.  Friend of the groom, John Paul Molloy was bestman and two other friends, John Boyle and Michael Furey were groomsmen.  Katie and Lily Bonner, nieces of the groom, were flowergirls.  Readings were by Caroline Bonner and Kieran Murray. Claire, Stephan and Mary read Prayers of the Faithful.  Margaret Murray and Marie Bonner, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar.  Music and singing was by Barbara Edwards and the String Quartet.  The reception was held in the Mill Park, Hotel, Donegal Town and the honeymoon was spent in Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Festival
The Harvest Fair Festival gets under way on Thursday 9th September, with a one mile street race at 7 p.m.   It will be officially opened by Jim Mc Guinness at 8 p.m.  A great variety of events will be held during the festival with competitions – Darts, Snooker, Pitch + Putt etc. races – road, duck, go-cart etc. Clay Pigeon Shoot, Crazy Golf, Tug-O-War, Trek in the Bluestack Mountain, football, music, dancing, Kids movie, etc.  Details are on the programmes, which are in the shops.  The Festival Queen Dance is in the Highlands Hotel on Sunday night.

New Gardaí
Congratulations to Grainne Mc Loone and James Gallagher who graduated recently from Templemore Garda College.  Grainne is a daughter of Connell and Mena Mc Loone, Glen Road, Glenties and is currently serving in Claremorris, Co. Mayo.  James is a son of James and Bridgeen Gallagher, Ard Patrick, Glenties and is currently serving in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

Harvest Fair Parade
Our annual parade takes place next Sunday 12th September at 4 p.m.  We encourage businesses, clubs, schools etc. to participate in the parade by way of a float or fancy dress.  Any group that can add colour by dance routine etc. is also very welcome.  All floats are to assemble on the Narin Road and all bands can park and assemble at the Comprehensive School.  Prizes for floats, individual entrant and children’s fancy dress.  Enquiries to 086-8656312.

Fionnuala and Irene Boyle wish to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to all those who contributed so generously to their recent Church Gate Collection for ‘Build it Week Haiti’.  The amount raised was € 1234.10.  The girls will travel to Haiti in October with this building programme.  Your generous contributions are greatly appreciated.

Michael Mc Cahill
The death took place suddenly at his home on Monday 23rd August 2010 of Michael Mc Cahill, Derries, Glenties.  His Remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday morning.  Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Shane Gallagher, Fr. James Friel and Fr. Aodhan Cannon.  Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar.  Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’Donnell.  Burial took place in the New Graveyard.  Michael is survived by his wife, Bridie, daughters, Nicola, Michelle and Tracey, son Shaun, mother, Eileen, brothers, Des, Peter and Stephen, sisters, Patricia and Angela, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Maria Rafferty on the death of her father, which took place last week and who was buried in Athlone on Friday 3rd September.

Fr. James Mc Dyer
On 14th September 2010 it will be 100 years since the birth of Fr. James Mc Dyer of Glencolmcille.  He was born in Kilraine, Glenties.  Some events have been organised for Saturday 11thSeptember to celebrate his Centenary.  The Programme is as follows – 6 p.m. Mass in Glenties Chapel.  7.30 p.m. – Unveiling of Plaque at his Home in Kilraine.  8.30 p.m. – “Teacht Le Chéile” in the Highlands Hotel to share memories of the vision, the work and the achievements of the late Fr. Mc Dyer, at which Liam Mc Ginley will launch his latest book, “A Revolution on their Hands”.  All are welcome to attend.

Message from an Garda Siochána
The Main Street will be closed to traffic for the duration of the Parade on Sunday 12th September approx 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Alternative routes via Altar & Mullantyboyle.  A One-Way traffic system will be in operation for the Harvest Fair Day – Monday 13th September.  From Mill Road (Connaghan’s) via Mullantyboyle to the Narin Road. From Station Road via Altar to the Glen Road (back of Garda Station).  No traffic other than HGVs & Coaches will have access to the town.

St. Columba’s Comprehensive School – Adult Education – Night Classes
Enrolment is on Monday 20th September 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Classes start on Tuesday 28th September.  All fees must be paid on enrolment night.  Fees for those on social welfare benefit reduced by € 45 for 8 week course and by € 20 for 4 week course.  Anyone interested in giving a night class, please send CV to the school.  Full details of all the courses that are being offered are on Notice Board in Church.

Chiropody Clinic
Margaret Connell, Foot Health Practitioner will hold a Chiropody Clinic in Glenties Day Centre on Monday 20th September.  Please telephone Margaret on 087 1417180  to arrange an appointment.
