BALGLEN Project – Day Trip

Shared History & Heritage – Visit to Derry / Londonderry

Thanks to the BALGLEN project funded by the International Fund for Ireland and the Shared Island Civic Society fund, a trip to Derry is organised for the Ballinascreen and Glenties community to meet up during this day trip. Free of charge to attend.

Date: Wednesday 14th May 2025 from 9.15am – 6.30pm

  • 9.15am Depart from Draperstown / Glenties
  • 10.45am Tower Museum, Derry (self guided tour)Tower Museum
  • 12.30pm Lunch (self funded)
  • 2.30pm Mayor’s Social Tea Dance, Guildhall Hall Guildhall Derry
  • 4.30pm Depart for return journey

Notes:

  • If you wish to book a seat for several people please indicate the total number of attendees / seats required at the appropriate question.
  • Meeting Points for Buses: Draperstown – Workspace Community Hub, 50 High Street, Draperstown. Glenties: St Connell’s Museum, Glenties.
  • Lunch: You will fund your own lunch at one of the eateries in Derry or bring a packed lunch.
  • The Tower Museum houses two permanent exhibitions. “The Story of Derry” tells the colourful and dramatic history of the city from earliest prehistory to the present and “An Armada Shipwreck – La Trinidad Valencera” tells the story of one of the largest ships in the Spanish Armada, La Trinidad Valencera, which sank off the Donegal Coast in 1588 and was rediscovered by divers from the City of Derry Sub-Aqua Club in 1971. Also includes the The Derry Girls Experience
  • Take a self guided tower of the Guildhall Derry and view the special collection of the world renowned peace accolades awarded to the late John Hume.
  • Pick Up @ 4.30pm – Near the Guildhall (TBC)
