60th Wedding Anniversary
Congratulations and best wishes for many more happy and healthy years together to Paddy and Mamie Mc Geehan, Derries who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently.
Bonner / Conroy Wedding
Ciaran Bonner and Marie Conroy were married in St. Fintan’s Church, Ballyfin, Co. Laois on Saturday 19th September 2009. Fr. Pat Hennessy assisted by Fr. Tony Cahir officiated and concelebrated Nuptial Mass. Ciaran is a son of Neily and Barbara Bonner, Straboy, Glenties and Marie is a daughter of Michael and Maureen Conroy, Portlaoise. Her father gave the bride away. Carol Conroy was maid of honour and Louise Hannon was bridesmaid. Niall Bonner was bestman and Shane Phelan and Andrew Conroy were groomsmen. Readings were by Andrew Conroy and Kathleen Lefler. Michael Conroy, Brian Conroy, Thomas O’Neill and Aisling O’ Neill read Prayers of the Faithful. The mothers of the bride and groom, Maureen Conroy and Barbara Bonner brought the Gifts to the Altar. Chad Lefler read a Reflection. Music was by Damien Bowe (vocals & guitar) and Ann Pike (flute). The reception was held in The Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise and the honeymoon was spent in Sydney.
Greenwood / Kearns Wedding
On Saturday 26th September 2009 Katie Greenwood and Brendan Kearns were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Katie is a daughter of David and Angela Greenwood, Mullinamina, Glenties and Brendan is a son of Bridie and the late Thomas Kearns, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters Elizabeth and Clare Greenwood were her bridesmaids. Eugene Hyland was bestman and Seamus Comer was groomsman; both are friends of the groom. Ellie Greenwood was a flowergirl. Readings were by Bridie Kearns and Sarah Duffy, mother and sister of the groom. Michael Greenwood, Carol Porter, Denise Doherty and Jonathan Duffy read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by Aoife and Roisin Duffy, nieces of the groom. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell, Sinead Finn and Elizabeth Greenwood. The reception was held in The Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon was spent cruising around Norway.
Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Pat and Hugh Boyle, Glen Road, Geraldine Kennedy, Glenties Furnishings, on the death in Killybegs Hospital on Wednesday 7th October 2009, of their uncle, Packie Breslin, Cronkeerin, Ardara; also to Packie’s wife, Mary and family, to his sisters Annie and Maggie Ellen, and to all the relatives and friends.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Margaret Rodger, Main St. Glenties on the death of her sister, Anna Sweeney, Fintown and formerly Meenashrone, who died in Dungloe Hospital on Tuesday 6th October 2009; also to her sister, Teresa, nieces, nephews and all the other relatives and friends.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Marjorie Mc Hugh and William Hamilton, Kilraine on the death of their uncle, Charlie Hanlon, Garrowart, formerly of Tullyard, Glenties who died in Letterkenny Hospital on Wednesday 7th October 2009; also to Charlie’s sister, Nan Todd, Rathmullan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Best Wishes
Best wishes to 17-year-old Scottish-born Stephen O’Donnell who signed for Celtic Football Club in July and is set to declare his international allegiances to the Republic of Ireland because his grandparents are from Donegal. Stephen is a grandson of Johnny and Maggie O’ Donnell, Stranaglough, Glenties and had 16 other teams looking for his signature.
First Holy Communion – Change of Date
Children from St. Riaghan’s N.S., Drimnacrosh, Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 24th April 2010 at 11 a.m. Mass.
Community Alert
The Scheme of Community Support for Older People is being re-opened for a short period. Due to restrictions on funding available, only Monitored Alarms & Smoke Detectors will be considered. Applications must be made on or before next Saturday 17th October. No applications will be considered after this date. Lesser Spotted Ulster
The UTV programme, ‘Lesser Spotted Ulster’ will be coming from Fintown next Tuesday 20th October from 8p.m. – 9p.m. Presenter is Joe Mahon.
Public Meeting
A Planning Application has been made for a 35 Turbine Wind Farm in the Glen of Glenties, to be situated in the townlands of Mully, Graffy, Meenagrubby, Meenaleenaghan, Meenachuit, Daraghan Mor, Meenamanragh, Meenavale, Greenans and Stralinchy. You are invited to attend a public meeting, organised by local people, to exchange information and facilitate open discussion on the potential impact of the proposed wind farm on the area. The meeting will be held in the Edeninfagh Hall on Saturday 17th October at 4.00 p.m.
Table Quiz
Naomh Conaill GAA Club are having a Table Quiz in Paddy’s Bar, Glenties tomorrow Friday 16th October at 9.30 p.m. Table of 4 € 20. Proceeds are in aid of AWARE – helping to defeat depression. Please support this worthy cause.
Christmas Cards
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland Christmas Cards are now available at Care of the Aged Centre, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties. A pack of six cards costs € 7 with all money raised to be spent in this county, providing respite care to some of the almost 2,000 families in the county living with Alzheimer’s.
Halloween Fancy Dress Ball
The 11th Annual Halloween Fancy Dress Ball takes place on Sunday 25th October in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. All proceeds are in aid of Christmas Lights. Please support.
