Glenties Notes 17th February 2012

The Late Mary Anne Mc Callig
The death took place in The Hillcrest Nursing Home, Letterkenny on Wednesday 1st February 2012 of Mary Anne Mc Callig, Edeninfagh, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to her home on Thursday and to The Church of The Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Saturday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast, Fr. Denis Quinn and Fr. Aodhan Cannon concelebrated RequiemMass. Members of the family did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought up the Gifts. Singing was by Breidin Gallagher accompanied by her son Darragh on Guitar. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Graveyard. Mary Anne was predeceased by her husband John some years ago. Her brother John also predeceased her. She is survived by three sons, John, James and Pat, two daughters, Eibhlín and Mary, one brother, Paddy Ward, Edeninfagh, grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Thanks
Sincere thanks to Michael Boyle, Limelight, Glenties, for organising a very successful Fundraising ‘Country Night’ for the Little Angels School. He raised € 7,200, which was presented to Margaret Kennedy, Deputy Principal in the school. Thanks to all the acts who performed free on the night, the bus and taxi drivers who provided free transport, the walkers, those who gave donations and sponsorship and everyone who supported in any way.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 7th February 2012 were – Fiona Gallagher won the Jackpot of € 400. Maire Doyle, Anne Byrne, Ardara, Rosaleen Melly, Anthony, Doochary, Fiona Boyle, Peter Sweeney, Anne Quinn, Martin Mc Taggart and Ann Mc Hugh, Glengesh won € 100 each. James Gallagher, Patricia Whyte, Fidelma Burke, May Kennedy, Carmel Doherty, Nellie Maguire, Frosses, Ann Quinn and Rose Mc Groarty won € 50 each. Rosaleen Melly won € 40. Margo Gallagher, Hugo Gallagher, Bridget Bonner won € 35 each. Margaret Gallagher, F. Doherty, Bernadette Gallagher, Frosses, Christine Mc Cool and M.M. Mc Gettigan won € 25 each.

Charity Ceilí
A Charity Ceilí will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Sunday 18th March. Dancing is from 9 p.m. – 12. Music is by The Long Note and admission is €10 (including supper). All proceeds will go to – Palliative Care Team, Donegal Hospice

Glenties Community T.V. – Regarding Payments
The payment of the € 10 can be made to Martin Breslin, The Craft Gallery on Main Street, Glenties.

Naomh Conaill C.I.G. Presentation Night
A Hot Buffet and Dance will take place in the Highlands Hotel Glenties on Saturday 18th February at 8 p.m. Music is by ‘Derailed’. Tickets are € 20 and are available from the Paperstop, The Co-op and The Craft Gallery or contact Rosaleen Doherty on 087-6235023 or Owen Mc Geehan, Fintown on 2506653. Donegal County Manager, Jim Mc Guinness is the Special Guest.

Garda Retirements
Garda Gerry Corcoran will retire from the Garda Síochána after 38 years of dedicated service in the Donegal Division. To mark this achievement, join Gerry for celebratory drinks in Leo’s Bar, Glenties on February 17th February at 9 p.m.

Garda / Community Function
To mark the retirement and acknowledge the service of Sergeant Sean Mc Kenna, Ardara, Garda Martin Tonry, Clogher and Garda John Kilbane, Ardara a function will be held in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel, Ardara on Saturday 25th February. Doors open at 9 p.m.; donations at door. Everyone is welcome.

Mullantyboyle Bridge
Cllr Terence Slowey has been informed that under the Regional and Local Roads Allocations 2012 € 350,000 has been approved for the replacement of the MullantyboyleBridge. Cllr Slowey would like to thank Mr. Charles Hanlon who coordinated the petition with over 200 signatures and together with myself arranged the necessary meetings with the County Council. Cllr Slowey would also like to thank all who signed the petition and the people of Glenties in supporting him to get this project underway. We now look forward to the completion of this job and the walkers and all those who use this bridge availing of it again.

Cash for Clobber
Scoil Mhuire is having another ‘Cash for Clobber’ collection on Tuesday 28th February. We welcome all bags of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, belts, handbags, bed linen (no duvets) curtains, paired shoes etc… We would like to thank you for your support for our past collections and look forward to this one being another success.

Dancing At Lughnasa
Glenties Drama Group is in full swing with rehearsals for their upcoming production of Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa in Glenties Community Centre on March 2nd, 3rd, 4th. There is great local interest in the play as it reflects Friel’s memories of his childhood visits to his aunts in Glenties. So make it a date for your diary and come and enjoy an evening of live theatre.
